Massive Dope Seizure
- Seven people have been arrested after nearly 11 tons of marijuana was found packed into six railroad cars from Mexico in what could be the largest pot seizure in the Chicago area.
The marijuana was found at a south suburban warehouse this month, according to the U.S. attorney's office, which valued the pot at $22 million.
- A family is accused of running a $1 million "designer marijuana" operation from their home in an unincorporated area near Tinley Park.
John Gecan, 52, his wife Darlene, 52, their son Christopher, 27, and another relative, James Osmolski, 22, were charged after police busted the pot growing operation in the 7,000-square-foot home in the 5300 block of West 175th Street, according to Cook County Sheriff's officials.
This is going to put a damper on a number of parties this weekend. Watch for Cannabis Futures at the Merc to head upwards in opening trades tomorrow. It should stabilize over the course of the day though as Mexican suppliers up shipments though their own underground railways on the border.

Six Railroad Cars, yikes, only six thousand more railroad cars to catch!
Thanks NAFTA!!!!!

Could have been a freaking hydrogen bomb in there for all anybody knew. Anything, anything at all.
This, while airline passengers are being given a choice of being electronically stripped naked or physically felt up...
What I want to know is what happened to the six boxcars filled with 22 tons of Doritos?
HA!
Cannabis Futures!
You're a riot, SCC!

Over the past few months, the department implemented and offered a test for Police Technician.
The test was offered to members who fit a certain criteria.
I believe 5 years on the job and assigned to OCD.
The FOP sued to open it up to 3yrs on the job and I think any unit could take the test.
The test was an electrical apptitude test, which may have been offered for sale on line.
I took the test and did not score high enough to make the next level... the practical.
Those who did well enough on the practical moved on to the oral interview.
WELL.... a lot of issues with this.
Rumor is that they are going to make MERIT Technician. At least one genuis who failed the first part and did not take the second or third part will be made MERIT.
My question is why????
If he/she could not pass Part 1, then clearly they should not be a Technician.
I know of about 200 other people that feel the same.
Also, the department tried to rush this test quietly. The only reason I was aware of it was knowing where the office is and asking.
Typical city BS and typical way to get wrong guy in right job.
So I take it that this means the value of weed went from $6.01 a gram to $6.02??? Na.... I believe someone stated that in order to put a dent in the supply/demand price that one would have to seize maybe 3 decent size cargo ships full of weed a year.

True! Chicago and the Midwest is the "rail hub" where much or almost all of the rail lines flow scary like! Found this on Drudge report, nice the dept warns us!!

! Ay Caramba ! ShortShanks made a comment about the seizure saying, "this happens all the time in Chicago", yet he and his 50 aides have done little to prevent it by proudly maintaining a sanctuary city and allowing the CPD to shrink. Then of course there's Dart and Alvarez doing their part keeping the jail empty.
Awwwww man... Can you guys leave the good weed alone and just go after the brown-frown?
Man, now the price of X-mas weed will go up.

And your beef is like ours....the behaviorial program had OVER 500 police officers that had families and loved ones that saw the officers have their constitutional rights violated and subjected to a persecution by the department that ripped the very core of integrity. The FOP is still not doing anything to help with obtaining a monetary settlement for these officers. Every other Tom, Dick and Harry sues and gets millions for any stupid complaints. Here something is bonified and well........
It won't make a dent...nobody will notice... I just bought and eighth of some killer and a gram of hash at the normal rate
That's a lot of munchies.
Just think of those poor people with their "medical" conditions who won't be getting their high on. I cry big tears for you, sob.
There will be a lot of empty bongs and unused rolling papers under the Christmas tree this holiday season, santa won't be bringing all the good boys and girls their buzz.
"The designer pot aficionados also took a hit".
Aaahhhh...yet another sarcastic subtlety that'll elude the more obtuse visitors/contributors to the blog.
Well played, SCC!
Here's a clue for the predictive analysis unit. Somebody is going to get killed over this. Will it be in Chicago?
Someone said "Hash" I've not seen any hash since the early 80's. I remember the blonde hash, the green hash ansd the killer skunk weed from Hawaii. Alas, not it's all mexican ditch weed.
A bigger Dope arrest would be daley himself.

No thank you Gringos!!. All these drugs wouldn't come from south of the border if it wasn't for drug hungry Americanos.

.......
If you noticed at the test there were some empty seats though if you digged you may find they somehow got a score anyway.
"...7,000-square-foot home in the 5300 block of West 175th Street..."
Yeah, McMansion, one of those unmistakably vulgar computer-designed new-construction places. Just move pre-drawn doors and windows and stuff around on the screen until it looks cool.
These always look to me like one of those Picasso paintings of a woman with both eyes on the same side of her nose -- just out-of-kilter.
Now let's watch 'em meet the A.R.M. on this monster from jail. Sign a'comin' any day now, "BANK OWNED."
If it don't get seized under RICO first...
and it will have ZERO impact on street availibility and price.
Did this guy ever live in Mt. Greenwood w anther guy about 108 near Pulaski. Landscapers maybe. Seems like I recall a warrant and house being hit ten or twelve yrs ago. Name rings a bell.
U better hope they're s-searching at Chgo airports my friend. It's the weakest link.

Funny there's buzz about hash again. I'm noticing it too.
Usage decline drove out the importation of hash right about the time it became much more profitable to use dope-mule space to bring in the same amount of cocaine (the 80's), but little birdies also say that when hash does get brought in (you have to be pretty high on the food chain to call up an order of hash from Mex), it commands a hefty price from the old-time dopers who remember it and are after a 'nostalgia high'.
I'll go ahead and predict that, based on where the chatter is heading now, we might see a minor resurgence of hash interest over the next 5 years. Mainstream use of heroin was all but dead for the longest time, too. Not too worried about it since its just a cannabis product and I'd MUCH rather see hashish brought in at the expense of bringing in the same weight of meth, cocaine or heroin, but something worth keeping an ear on.
The tech test was announced in the daily bulletin and on pax 501. There are NO merit techs being made. Top 5 or 6 are getting the job. Results were mailed out this week.
HE4RE S AN IDEA
CHICAGO HAS A BUDGET PROBLEM?
CHICAGO HAS TONS OF TASTY WEED?
