No Gun Registry Yet

  • Mayor Richard Daley expressed frustration today that the Chicago Police Department has not set up a database to let police officers and firefighters know how many firearms are registered in each home in the city.

The registry was a key piece of Daley's new gun control platform this summer after the U.S. Supreme Court overturned the city's handgun ban in June. The mayor said it would help protect first responders by letting them know what kind of situation they might encounter when they went to calls in Chicago residences. "It is annoying" that the registry isn't yet in place, Daley said when asked about the topic after the City Council meeting.
Of course, this only means something if the guns are registered, 90% or more which actually aren't. We'd be willing to bet a sizable percentage of guns registered are actually Chicago Police duty weapons.

And maybe this is a good thing, because as it stands, the NRA has a pretty good track record of eliminating gun registries. Not complying with Shortshank's insane anti-gun fetish might actually be saving money somewhere down the line.

Uh, what? There's never enough "gun control" in this town, is there?

Are we to believe that the existing registry -- maintained at such great effort and expense as a giant booby trap (engineered by former corporation counsel Terrence Gainer, may he rot in hell) set to snap shut on the law-abiding the moment they forgot to dot an "i" or cross a "T," has simply disappeared??

Many's the time in the past I've heard units -- police, paramedics -- responding to a scene in predominantly white areas warned that "there are registered guns in that house." Generally as much danger to first responders as the claw hammer in the basement tool drawer...

It's the crazed parolee with the 9mm from God knows where that seems to be the problem...

No matter how may gun laws there are, we always need just one more. No matter how many registries there are, we always need just one more.

In general, this country is being choked to death by its own bureaucracies.

Fuck Daley. Don't let the door hit your fat Irish ass on the way out you piece of shit anti-American criminal fucking ass wipe.

He trampled on the Constitution while he ran this city like a communist dictatorship.

Why didn't you pay into the pension plans like you were supposed to you piece of shit? Daley will collect THREE pensions at higher rates of pay and tries to divert attention to cops' and firemen's modest pension benefits? ASSHOLE. May he rot in hell.

I call this a distraction What else is going on? The trials for the out-of-control Fenger students, pension debacle, the divisive mayoral race, Berrios hiring relatives in face of Preckwinkle's displeasure (boys run it), etc. - things that need real solutions.

Daley is delusional. After the Supreme Court decision, no one in their right mind is going to abide by his wacky ordinance. Certainly the bad guys who could pose a threat to first responders would never comply. Ignore the babbling fool.

Gainer was not a corporation counsel, but an attorney who happened to be a chicago police officer. He just did what he was ordered to do. I know the guy and he is a great guy and was a great detective. It was a sign of the times, crime was high and guns were on the mind of everyone. No one really objected to the ordinace when it was passed. Now, it is outdated and proved useless. Daley was preaching for years that guns in the homes of citizens would pose a problem for cops and fireman. We all know that idea was bullshit, but Daley pushed it so he had to create a gun registry so the responsers would know what gunsa are in the house. Daley just can't stand it when people do not see things as he sees them. The libs phrase for this are " common sense gun laws". They really mean that if you do not agree with them you do not have any common sense.

Gun registration is pre-text for gun confiscation.

The only gun law you have to obey is the Second Amendment. It is the Law of the Land.

Gun registry? Where the hell does he propose to find the money for that? It's the registered gun owners and law abiding citizens that will be the only people to comply with any stupid "registry" idea his pea brain can conjure up. It's the registered gun owners who are the least likely to be of any threat.
Does he actually believe that this will deter people from owning guns? Does he think that this will prevent the average maggot on the street from having a gun in his possession?
The guy is a freakin moron.
No wonder your city is falling apart.

Gangbanger/Burglars will love to get access to this regestry. Maybe via Fredom of Information Requests.

Maybe all of our gun ownership records will be on WIKILEAKS for the world to see. But that will mean that the world will see we are Free Citizens, not subjects of a government.

Years ago, a gangbanger/burglar had his mother, who worked for one of our health insurance companies get him lists of coppers homes to target.

The gun registry by address was just part of Daley's argument against legalizing possession. He never cared whether police and fire have access to that information or not.

Puh-leez, like he cares about our safety? Um, not so much.

Chicago laws are more about revenue generation for the political royal families than they are about public and officer safety.

What copper in their right mind is going to drop their guard riding on a domestic because some database says that there are no guns registered to that address?

Are you kidding me?

Huge waste of time and resources.

The term used in the I/T industry to describe a database like this is called GIGO (pronounced Guy-Go). It stand for Garbage-IN, Garbage-Out.

However..yes, we do have another revenue stream with all the city permit non-sense by doing it now don't we?

The same can be said for the red light camera's - these laws only exist to generate revenue - targeting the weak middle class that are trying to live within the system.

More important to nail some slob that rolls thru a crosswalk than to nail someone jacking up someone else.

I mean to the officer on the beat it may matter however I'm referring to the apparatus making the laws.

These revenue generating policies could not be more evident then the direction by the top cop recently to tow their cars when it comes to crime control. We see where the cities priorities lie.

Revenue Generation not Crime Prevention.

Hire more coppers to write more park-ers because that's where the money is. That's where the money can be easily taken away, from the working middle class.

---clip--

Yet, while you and I are focused on the lame-duck Congress and distracted by holiday shopping, President Obama is scheming behind the scenes to make one of his anti-gun Chicago buddies, Andrew Traver, the top gun-cop in the nation. Traver, a Chicago native and special agent in charge of the city’s BATFE division, supports banning .50-caliber rifles, something that would cause many gun shops to close.

Meanwhile...

---clip---
A very rare Obama note, handwritten on White House stationary, has surfaced on the auction market in which the target of the National Rifle Association pledges his support for gun owners. “I believe in the Second Amendment, and the rights of sportsmen like you. Period. Sincerely, Barack Obama,” is clearly and firmly written on the note up for auction December 16 by our friends at Alexander Autographs.

As another poster wrote below Terry Gainer was never the Corp Counsel. He was a V/C dic who after he got his law degree went to Legal Affairs. Terry liked to have as much fun,was as good at and knew as much about this job as anybody else. Just because he moved on to better things don't bash a guy you don't know shit about.
By the way I'm not a Gainer brother either.
Just a guy who worked with Terry in late 70's and early 80's.

The Daley regime made it as hard as possible to register for a CFP. One place, open limited hours on the South Side - not open weekends for working folk. Must appear in person.
Typical Daley crap. It's all intended to discourage registration.

I have it from the inside that there are fewer than 800 that have been successfully registered. The regulations were ONLY meant to discourage registration.

Prove Me Wrong King Richard II you asswipe!

They Would Really Feel A Lot More Comfortable Knowing Just Who Has Firearms, and How Many.
If Necessary It Will Be Easier For Them To Come For Them.
PS; Have A Nice Day.

I don't need "permission" from the City of Chicago to own or carry firearms. The Constitution guarentees that already.

Nor will I pay any fees to the City related to my posession and carry of firearms.

Daley is out of his mind as is anyone who support his anti-gun nonsense. The Supreme Court already smacked you down didn't you learn anything at all?

Yeech. This is scary. I have a scanner that I used to keep on for background noise- you're dead on the money. They even have no smartphone apps that act as Police/Fire/Emergency Scanners and you can be damn rest assured, the shitheads are listening to it.

The last thing anyone needs is to get in a shouting match with the wife, have Nosy Nelly the Neighbor call it in and dispatch broadcasts to the entire world that there are firearms in the residence... And every shithead with his scanner on now knows where that is.

Great point.
