Ask These Questions

Something the media here will never do:
  • Mr. Emanuel, how many pensions are you currently eligible for and how are they funded?
  • Mayor Shortshanks, how many pensions are you currently eligible for and which ones are you collecting at the moment? How are they funded?
Then start asking some other of our elected officials to see where the money has gone.

Here's one more question to ask Dick that I was told by a very good source:
Dick, is it true you will be paid as a consultant by the company that will be taking over management of Navy Pier and McCormack Place after you leave office?

Lay all your chips on this one SCC.

It's amazing that no one in the media ever asks these questions. We all know that these fat cat politicians like to tell everyone else how to live and what we can and can't have, but how dare anyone question their perks. Police and firemen have been giving their lives for ages only to collect an average pension, but what have these politicians done to deserve their HUGE pensions? And many get several. Ask the hard(should be easy) questions.

The media WON'T but I'll bet the farm the guys on a certain ticket running for this FOP election will have NO problem asking the appropriate questions and calling-out those that need to be called on the carpet.

Hint: It sure as Hell AIN'T the hacks that are running for office again. They can't/won't/refuse to answer pension-related issues when begging for votes in roll calls...what makes you think they have the balls to open their collective traps in this instance?

The current FOP regime has kept us in the dark for way too long and about way too many issues. The looming pension crisis and not having a plan to at least attack it (and hopefully defeat it) is the final straw in my mind. I want my pension. I put too much blood, sweat and tears into this place to be left to dry by the very same people who are supposed to have our best interests in mind.

So, yes..."Ask These Questions" starting with your own union (that hope to be re-elected as well)...AND BE PREPARED FOR THE DEAFENING SILENCE.

My question (although unrelated to the topic at hand)...

Is it true that there was an officer-involved shooting in 007 a few weeks back and it took FOP over 4 hours to answer a call to come out to represent the officer?

This is what I've heard from a few different sources. Can anyone confirm or deny?

If true, this is a SERIOUS problem seeing that they're trying everything in their power to make us give a statement right after we're involved in a shooting.

This is something that needs to be addressed IMMEDIATELY if there's even an ounce of truth to it.

Daley is set to receive a State pension for his time as an Illinois State Senator, a Cook County pension for his time as Cook County State's Attorney, AND a City of Chicago pension for his time as Mayor. Right?

QUESTION:

Anyone know when the State and County pensions start?

Has he already been collecting those while serving as Mayor?

How do they calculate the monthly amount of each of those pension checks, by length of time served?

Just wondering and thought it might be of interest here.

I was told a long time ago that you can only have ONE city pension. Example: You retired as a sworn member and came back as a civilian. You can continue to put money into investment vehicles, but you won't qualify for another CITY pension. You quit your civilian job, that is it.

Mayor asshat though qualifies for a minimum pension from the state and county to the best of my knowledge, just how much I don't know.

here is another fine example of our fine mayor making an ass of himself, just making up words to get his way like a fucking baby....

"If the city did not borrow more money to continue the expansion program and related capital improvements totaling $15 billion, its runway permits could expire, Daley said.

“If you don’t keep those permits, they’re denied,” Daley said. “Then you start all over with the federal and state process. It takes you another 20 years.”

But Federal Aviation Administration officials said they were baffled by Daley’s reference to runway permits.

“The word ‘permit’ is not used by the FAA in runway construction. We are not sure what this statement means,’’ FAA spokeswoman Elizabeth Isham Cory said.

O’Hare spokeswoman Eve Rodriguez later said the mayor was talking about the FAA approval granted for O’Hare expansion in 2005. But FAA officials said there is nothing in the approval documents describing any deadline to complete construction."

I did not know this. My friend saw someone get cash from their LINK card. Yes, it is true. Not sure who qualifies. But yes you cannot use LINK to buy booze, cigs, but after you get the cash you can!!!

I am so afraid that the next time I see some able bodied person use a LINK card I will get arrested.

http://www.dhs.state.il.us/page.aspx?item=39186

Even better. Recently as I sat in line at Walgreens to check out with my purchases I noticed the fine citizen in front of me paying for her items with a LINK card. I was actually please to see for a minute that she was buying soap and shampoo. What a sucker I am. As I walk outside to get in the car I notice the same lady get into her Lexus RX. A car that starts at $38,000!!!.

The whole program is a complete SCAM and everyone knows it. Hell, half the TMA's who are part time employees know that they work only X amount of hours a year which will get them just below the threshold to qualify for LINK. They then suck the tit of LINK.

They are able bodied people and cna work full time jobs or multiple part time jobs and not qualify for LINK but FUCK NO, they SCAM the system but collecting LINK and working part time.

Wish I could be a part time PO and collect LINK too

From what I was old Shorty is only in one pension,
The State Legislators Pension, from when he was a State Senator..

But... it’s HUGH

That pension follows them wherever they go so it gained when he was Cook County States Attorney and Mayor... nice when you can write your own rules.

It might be over $135K right now...

Since he was not in any CITY pension funds he could short them and let them go to hell. Let the state put through the HUGH INCOME TAX increase to fund his and state pensions.

When forced to fund city pensions for what we EARNED, he says we are the greedy ones.

Plus, Shorty and family will get top notch solid gold medical care, all paid for by the taxpayers.

And his war chest, and consulting fees and you really don't think the new Wacker Drive work was anything more that more flower boxes.

Suspect charged in Lakeview sex assault

By Jeremy Gorner, Annie Sweeney and Jason Meisner
Tribune reporters
12:10 PM CST, January 14, 2011

A 20-year-old man has been charged with sexually assaulting a woman as she walked home from a train station last month in the Lakeview area, Chicago police said this morning.

Tyrone Maxwell, of the 4300 block of West Gladys Avenue, is charged with aggravated criminal sexual assault, aggravated kidnapping and aggravated robbery in connection with the Dec. 21 attack.

The woman was attacked a little before 7 p.m. that day as she walked on the 1300 block of West Barry Avenue.

Police have said she was approached by a man who implied he was armed, demanded money and pushed her into a nearby alley.

There, he battered and sexually assaulted her, police said.

Court records show Maxwell pleaded guilty in November 2010 to one count each of possession of a controlled substance and residential burglary. Criminal Court Judge Sharon Sullivan sentenced him to 6 months of time served while awaiting trial and 2 years of probation, and ordered him to submit to monthly drug tests.

Prosecutors filed a violation of probation petition on Jan. 6, and Sullivan ordered him held no-bail, according to court records.

His next court date in that case was set for Feb. 16 in the Skokie criminal courthouse.
---

Tyrone should have been inside, not running amok among human beings. Tyrone needs to be put down because he is a dangerous wild animal.

Rahm lost me first, because he is no longer for the middle class city worker. Originally,I was going to vote for him because- like Rosty- he would be able to bring home the bacon for the city, but with Bill Daley there now, we don’t the arrogant prick because the clout is already there.
Second as the following article from the Huffington post, Rahm wants to take from the city worker but reward illegal aliens.
So fuck him, I’m voting for Gerry Chico.
xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx

The Chicago for Rahm campaign issued a press release Thursday evening touting Emanuel's plan for immigration reform...in Chicago.

"Just because Congress has yet to pass the Dream Act doesn't mean we will wait for progress in Chicago," Emanuel said in a statement. "All children in Chicago deserve to have access to a quality education, and we will make sure they have that opportunity."

Emanuel's plan would not provide a path to citizenship as a national DREAM Act would, but would "allow these children to access the same financial aid opportunities as every other child," according to his campaign.

"The number one prohibitive reason people don't go to college is cost," Emanuel said in an interview with Telemundo Chicago. "So I want to take a part of the DREAM Act, which Sen. (Richard) Durbin introduced, and make Chicago the first city in the country to adopt a Chicago DREAM Act."

Those eligible would be able to receive student loans to both community colleges and four-year universities at a low interest rate, Emanuel told Telemundo. His plan is to raise $5 million from "business and civic leaders" to pay for the loans.

Not long after his announcement, other Chicago mayoral candidates slammed the plan and accused Emanuel of pandering,

During a joint appearance before the Chicago Tribune editorial board that was more like the first mayoral debate, Carol Moseley Braun, Gery Chico and Miguel del Valle were like a tag-team attacking Rahm Emanuel.

They hit the former White House chief of staff on everything from his abrasive personality and his proposal to reduce city pension benefits for existing employees to his support for denying teachers the right to strike to his role as a roadblock to immigration reform.

You know for many of the taxpayers, in regards to this state tax increase, they will be oblivious to the effect on their paychecks as the Bush tax cut extension bill included a temporary FICA tax cut of 2% for 2011.

It's in 2012 when the taxpayers really get blind sided given the status quo and the FICA tax break expires. Only then will they really feel the loss.

Of course this does not apply for people not paying into FICA or the corporate tax increase -- just a thought nonetheless.

As a side note with regards to all those great jobs that we keep hearing about that were created in 2010 - yeah those-- Well turns out that over 60% of them are part-time temporary jobs replacing full time work. Good luck funding the debt as that continues eh?

Everyone looks at the number of jobs created each month using the data as a sign of an economic turnaround but who's asking what kind of jobs are they and are they living wage!

Don't stand in the way of free trade now, they're warning you!

Wait a minute!!!! Which Dunkin D's gives a copper free coffee still!?!? You have to remember why they do offer discounts or "freebies". To keep the criminals you stand up for from robbing them late at night. You see, with better eye sight, these free loaders (handout recipients) may drive by a Dunkin D's, realize the little female worker inside is a easy target for a robbery, and enter the empty store for extra cash. Believe it or not, alot of "working" people out there love Police presence. It brings security and usually a good conversation during those lonely nights at work. So take your hard earned $$$ savings and hand it out to the "takers" in this society if it makes you feel good..... Don't trash talk "coppers" until you know what your talking about. BTW, I try to pay for everything I get. This "safe" City which reportedly has dropping crime stats, have thousands of store owners begging for more Police presence. They WANT us around. Here's the million dollar question.

Why does the FOP and the PBBA stand back and watch us get dragged throught the mud without putting up any defense?

Take some of the millions of dollars that we pay in dues and take out a full page ad in both newspapers and explain to the public the reality of the budget crisis and the shortfalls in our pension funds. If it cost too much, contact the firefighter, teachers, ect. and collaberate. Isn't that their function? To defend our credibility? If we don't show unity and speak up soon, the misinformed public opinion is going leverage the unaware leaving the politicians with no choice but to appease them.

There is NO documentation anywhere that the City demanded unpaid furlough days. Not on FOP web site, not in City's offer, No where. And all the pertinent pages from FOP web site are gone.

Arbitrator Benn wrote in his decision no such request was made of police, and I quote directly from the award:

"And there is no question that other City employees have had wage concessions through waived benefits like holidays, overtime pay, furloughs, shutdown days and wage freezes as well as layoffs, either negotiated or imposed.

No similar concessions have been requested by the City or imposed on the officers in this case."
---

The request for unpaid furlough days never appear in print except in Greg Bella's article in the newsletter claiming there was such a request.

If this was so, wouldn't there be some documentation of it somewhere? The FOP did not think to make an issue of it and the City never claimed unpaid furlough days for police were an issue. If it was important, wouldn't the issue of unpaid furlough days be on paper somewhere? It isn't

In short, I believe that unpaid furlough days for FOP bargaining unit members were NEVER an issue. It is just a red herring to take attention away from the fact that the current regime in power at the FOP dropped the ball and left the 16.1% on the table.

We were awarded 10% instead.

I defy anyone at FOP Lodge 7 to prove that unpaid furlough days were ever an issue for rank and file bargaining unit members.

I don't believe they can. I looked and I could find nothing. If it is true, then show us. Prove it. Put the documentation out there FOP.

If someone is young enough to be your kid, you probably do look a little sideways at their credibility and attitude.

This is the guy that the F.O.P is going to endorse in this election, I can't believe the majority of Officer's would endorse Rahm, every Rep I talked too said the F.O.P is going to endorse Rahm. My question is why send out ballots if the F.L.O.P already knows who there man is, Rahm is a cut throat politician who is going to stand at nothing to line his pockets, just ask those who have opposed him, if you thought Shortshanks was bad wait till "NAPOLEAN" takes office.

Any idiot can figure out if we took the 16% and agreed to give up furlough days we would have lost money. Once you give them one day, they keep taking more.

1/14/2011 11:13:00 PM

and only an idiot wouldn't know by now, or would pretend he doesn't know, that that phantom '16%' offer was never gonna stay 'on the table' for more than a fraction of a second longer than needed to bullshit the public into believing it was genuine.

1/15/2011 12:58:00 AM

Prove it.

What is true and documented in writing is that the 16.1% was on the table for around a year. Any idiot who can read knows that.

Prove it wasn't genuine. Prove unpaid furlough day were EVER requested of bargaining unit members as a condition of accepting the 16.1%

Why then did the arbitrator write that unpaid furlough days were never an issue for police?

1/15/2011 12:09:00 AM

The Mike Shields Team will hire a paid, full time press secretary and media spokesman.

If the leaders of the union are not busy using our dues to pay off secret settlements to wrongfully fired pregnant lawyers there ought to be plenty of funds available to hire a professional media relations person.

To say nothing of the approximately $350,000 expenditure of FOP dues money in legal expenses to arrive at the secret settlement.

At this time, that settlement is still secret, for the recipient. Not for the payers, the current FOP regime. Still, you will never hear from them how much they paid. Our money yet it is a secret from us.

These questions should be asked of Emmanuel.
IF you plan on cutting the pension(s) of those currently and planning on retirement within the city gov't...
* will that include aldermen who work less years, get a larger percentage for a 'part-time job?\If so WHO will approve that...the city council?
* will that 'across the board' cut include widows hardly managing now on their widows pension, those that did 20, 29+day, and 40 years all at the same percentage
* since pensions are controlled by the State not the city, what deal/control do you have over the governor and senators?
* lastly, if you are cutting out those who are/will receive(ing) multiple pensions... will that include you and Mayor Daley?

To the poster who asked about FOP and the 007th District shooting about two weeks ago. It took FOP almost SEVEN hours to get someone to respond to Area 1. Shooting happened on 1st watch, approx 0100 hours, and FOP did not answer the phone or return numerous messages left on their system. Nice huh.

1/14/2011 11:29:00 AM

***********************************

More asshats starting rumors.

If you call after hours you do get a recorded message..HOWEVER, if you listen to it, it says in essence if this is an emergency press (pick a number) at which time you get an answering service (live operator) you give her the details and she gets in touch with the field rep on call.

As a former unit rep, I personally made notification for officer involved shootings while on mids. Never had a problem with their response time. They usually called me on my cell to give me their ETA!

If there was a delay..it is an extremely rare occurance. I wasn't there. But the poster was not accurate in saying they (FOP)didn't answer the phone..unless they no longer use the answering service. I haven't been involved in FOP for 4 years now. Maybe things have changed. Just saying!

I did research. Plenty. I don't give a shit about other unions, I am not in other unions. I don't care how many unpaid furlough days and how progressive they got to be for other unions.

The fact is, and remains un-refuted, that FOP members did not take any such days nor were we asked to take such days and that, in fact, none were ever demanded in any City proposal.

Don't try and compare what some other union had to do with the FOP and City proposals to the FOP. Fire and Police were never asked in any City proposal to take unpaid furlough days.

That was nothing more than smoke to blow up our ass in newspapers and by quotes planted with machine aldermen to make us nervous.

Again, there is NO documentation anywhere that the City demanded unpaid furlough days. Not on FOP web site, not in City's offer, No where.

The only documentation is in the arbitrator's decision stating that unpaid furlough days were never an issue in contract negotiations with the bargaining unit, that is, the FOP.

Prove otherwise.

Hello, Mike Shields. No CPD officer has been fired for an on duty shooting since Nolan was President. You and Deb Kirby's kids keep trying on trying to make an issue of something that just isn't there. Why don't you actually do something over at the pension board instead? .

1/14/2011 08:24:00 AM

Serena Daniels, Michael Williams and Stafford Wilson were fired by the police board for killing LaTanya Haggerty.

And the Haggerty Family won an $18 million award from the City.

Oh wait, wasn't Nolan president of FOP then? Well, I guess you were right. In 9 years of Mark Donahue, no officer was fired. Lots were put through hell.

Your point was what exactly?

Gotta' get back to my work at the pension board now. Just kidding, I am not Mike Shields but I sort of look like him except for height and weight, age, hair and eye color and ancestry.

An Article, that is rich, oh yes, that proves everything. That would be a newspaper article? That is what you offer up as "proof?"

What an exclusive, oh boy, an article.

And the City did what, send this "article" to the FOP for use in contract negotiations? Shove the article and the exclusive up your alimentary canal.

That is not proof. That is more bullshit. Prove it was a subject of contract negotiations, a demand made by the City of Chicago, in writing.

No he just spreads LIE, LIES, and MORE LIES! Anyone who votes for anyone on the Shields Team has rocks in his/her head.

This just goes to show you how uninformed the Shields Team is. They have no clue what goes on during the contract negotiation meetings.
