Economic Reality
- Gov. Pat Quinn on Wednesday defended his plan to sign an income tax hike that's twice as big as he promised during his campaign, saying the state's "fiscal house was burning."
The governor rejected criticism he had double-crossed voters when he cut an 11th-hour deal with fellow Democrats in the General Assembly to raise the personal income tax rate 67 percent. - Chicago Democrat Michael Madigan, newly sworn in to his record 14th term as House speaker, blamed the state's deep budget problems on the national economic collapse and the resulting decline in tax revenue.
"When you encountered a 25 percent (drop) in receipts, you have a serious, serious problem to contend with," Madigan said. "Lower receipts, along with overspending over several years, led to yesterday's tax increase vote in the legislature."
While the size of the state corporate income tax hike ultimately was whittled down a bit, Illinois businesses still feel gored, and neighboring states began circling immediately to woo relocations.
The 11th-hour modification "is a joke," said Ty Fahner, president of the Civic Committee of the Commercial Club of Chicago. "It's like saying I'm going to hit you hard, and now I'm going to hit you a little. I believe it's disingenuous and it puts Illinois in a terrible spot in terms of creating or keeping jobs here."
Ben Smith reports on this statement from Governor Scott Walker of Wisconsin, a neighboring state of Illinois:
Wisconsin is open for business. In these challenging economic times while Illinois is raising taxes, we are lowering them. On my first day in office I called a special session of the legislature, not in order to raise taxes, but to open Wisconsin for business. Already the legislature is taking up bills to provide tax relief to small businesses, to create a job-friendly legal environment, to lessen the regulations that stifle growth and to expand tax credits for companies that relocate here and grow here. Years ago Wisconsin had a tourism advertising campaign targeted to Illinois with the motto, ‘Escape to Wisconsin.’ Today we renew that call to Illinois businesses, ‘Escape to Wisconsin.’ You are welcome here. Our talented workforce stands ready to help you grow and prosper.
Last year, voters in Oregon voted to raise taxes on the highest income earners in the state, giving Oregon the highest tax rates of any state in the nation. It hasn't worked out too well for Oregonians, according to the Wall Street Journal:
In 2009 the state legislature raised the tax rate to 10.8% on joint-filer income of between $250,000 and $500,000, and to 11% on income above $500,000. Only New York City’s rate is higher. Oregon’s liberal voters ratified the tax increase on individuals and another on businesses in January of this year, no doubt feeling good about their “shared sacrifice.”
Congratulations. Instead of $180 million collected last year from the new tax, the state received $130 million. The Eugene Register-Guard newspaper reports that after the tax was raised “income tax and other revenue collections began plunging so steeply that any gains from the two measures seemed trivial.”
One reason revenues are so low is that about one-quarter of the rich tax filers seem to have gone missing. The state expected 38,000 Oregonians to pay the higher tax, but only 28,000 did.

He states Wisconsin will give a 2 year tax break to all Illinois businesses that come from Illinois.
Thanks for voting Demo-cratic everyone!
Now BEND OVER!
I am definitely moving to a state where I can live comfortably. Illinois can go suck. Screw the liberals.

BUDGETS, fellas. Live within your means, don't spend money you don't have (especially when it isn't yours; it's mine) and save for a rainy day.
A novel concept, but one my parents taught me when I was seven or eight years old. Any of you politicians ever heard of it?
Yet the LINK and SSI users get their benefits/income increased.
Additionally, the lost revenue from Illinois internet sales tax bill is already having a negative effect.
Internet Tax Bill Approved, Illinois May Lose More Than Jobs
[...]
Amazon.com sent a letter to its affiliate marketers with the following remarks, “The unfortunate consequences of this legislation on Illinois residents like you were explained to the legislature, including Senate and House leadership, as well as to the governor’s staff. Over a dozen other states have considered essentially identical legislation but have rejected these proposals largely because of the adverse impact on their states’ residents. We thank you for being part of the Amazon Associates Program, and wish you continued success in the future.”
CouponCabin.com, one of the small businesses affected by the bill issued a statement through its founder and president, Scott Kluth, saying, “For the third straight year, our staff has doubled in size and has already grown by 12% in the first week of 2011. Unfortunately, this bill will do significant harm to our growth by cutting our business by nearly one-third.” Kluth also explained in his elaborate statement, the impact the law would have on internet affiliates, losing their jobs, all across the state....

Quinn and Madigan Negotiate
And these politicians WILL continue to raise taxes to make up for any losses.
All the while collecting annual 6% raises themsevles!
It's so so sad that a couple of crooks like Madigan and Da Mayo will turn this state into a dust bowl. I don't see any end in sight until the middle class minorities start standing up to the free lunches. I think many of them will be in shock when they see their next check stubs. And unless you leave the country wait until Obama care starts taking it's slice it wont matter what state you live in. Even when the economy turns around will things go back to the old levels before. Hell No!! They are going to reform our pensions and we will never get that back!
Just hoping to hit the Lotto! Hey by the way where does that lottery money go?
Oprah won't be paying IL taxes this year since she uprooted from Chicago. I wish I could follow suit.
who cares its too late now everyone who voted for quinn there u go lol
Those damn rich people need to pay up! I don't care if the top 5% pays over half of all income taxes collected... homeboy needs some new 22in spinners and somebody has gots to pay fo dem!
Chicago sits dab smack on the border of Indiana as we all know. Why in the name of god would anyone with a business stays in Chicago or Illinois for that matter. Indiana has much lower taxes including no tax at ALL on any food or medicine.
My wife wife works at a Chicago Hospital and many of the people who work there drive in from Indiana every day.
As people retire they should section 8 their homes, get the Hugh monthly government rent check, and head for the hills...
Sounds like the mid 80's when shitcago added $.05 a gal tax on gas. All that did was drive every station on the city border to go out of business. Because there was no gain from the tax, they later raised the tax to $.10 on each gal.
Too f'ing stupid to know just how dumb they really are.
How much is the state cutting from the fucking link card mutts ???
say goodbye to your pensions!!!!
That's what happens when people vote for democrats. Thanks. keep voting democrat maybe next time they'll increase it 100%.
Les Baer Custom moved to Iowa because of idiocy over the past few years. THis new batch of idiocy will cause more employers to leave. If you tell cops in Ohio that you work for CPD, after the initial glow of being a cop from Chicago is over, the ribbing about the nit-wits running this state and the goofy laws we have. Can you imagine it? Being from Chicago and taking ribbing from someone from Akron about living in Illinois? And just what do you say because everything they say is true. It's embarrassing. I have friends living in Indiana and they ask me when I'm going to move to a free state? Damn! A Hoosier is making fun of us and he's right on target.
The Governor of Indiana said last year that being next to Illinois is their secret to a balanced budget and growing economy because they are accepting our refugees! Illinois is quickly becoming Michigan.
Madigan is blaming the state's budget problems on the national economic collapse? What a jagoff. The budget problems were identified by Republican candidate Jim Ryan in a debate with Blago. Back then, the deficit was one billion. Now its over 15 billion.
Madigan and the dummy-crats are spinning the state's budget woes. But the problem was always Madigan. Why are the voters in his district re-electing him?
Atlas Shrugged
Anyone who votes for Lisa (no matter if it is for dog catcher) is supporting this absurd vote.

The GOP is going to STEAMROLL Illinois in 2016. Lisa Madigan could raise $500 million and it wouldn't make a difference.
OT: SNEED today
The police blotter . . .
Sneed hears Police Supt. Jody Weis, whose tour in office has been pockmarked by brickbats and patches of praise, has been asked to stay on past his contract date.
† Translation: Weis, whose contract is up March 1, is expected to stay until May 16, Mayor Daley’s last day in office.
† The kicker: Is there some reluctance to put it in writing?
Pssst!
Obama drama: The hottest rumor floating around the police department: Former deputy police Supt. Mark Shields, a cousin of first lady Michelle Obama — whom Weis promoted and then demoted — would be named interim police superintendent by Mayor Daley until his successor names a replacement. (Shields is now head of security for the Chicago Public Schools.)
How about cutting welfare and LINK payments by the same percentage? After alll, all the Politicians involved say "we are all in this together"
I see massive tax hikes on the working people in Illinois. What I haven't seen is the massive cutbacks they have threatened. I would like to see some, ANY, cutbacks...but not a word.
Stop spending money. Stop these expensive, feel good programs, like minority set backs. All they do is add huge cost increases and allow the criminal politicians an opportunity to game the system.
LET'S SEE THE CUTBACKS FIRST.
Illinois is sinking fast because no one has the balls to say "NO" to the unions and all the bloated pensions. Quinn should be recalled. As they named him on WLS - Quinnochio.
Face it - you can't keep getting fat raises when everyone else is taking a 10% cut. AND 2% IS a fat raise compared to someone who has had to take a 20% cut.
You can demand all you want - people are starting to look at alternatives as have been mentioned in previous posts.
Those who have property in other states? Maybe it's time to claim to be residents of that state instead. Look at Illinois as the "vacation home".
All the state workers, teachers and everyone else - enjoy the fat paychecks while you can because it's all soon going to end.
The tax base is so eroded already - putting on a 66% tax increase will scare anyone else away from Illinois.
Great job Quinn and Madigan.
As for all the unions and workers demanding more and more and more, try figuring out how to bring in more businesses to Illinois to increase the tax base before you go asking for anymore money.
The 023rd Dist. at it again. TVBing mom with one year old child and yuppie girls. Are you sure you can't find some piece of shit to fuck with? And of course, no WC has the balls to tell them to go fuck with some piece of shit in the 10 sector. I know that my arrest aren't the most stellar, but at least 99% are convicted felons, gang members or habitual offenders. I do believe that in an urban setting this is were a vast majority of our resources should be directed, lawfully harassing convicted felons, gang members or habitual offenders...not grandmothers, moms, daughters or other constuctive members of the community.
I do the payroll for my company. The state tax increase won’t be noticed this year because employees’ net pay will remain the same. Why? Because the payroll tax (Social Security contribution) for employees was reduced 2% for this year only. Therefore, the state tax increase was basically “canceled out.” So, the uninformed citizen (there are many of them) will think nothing of it. Next year, however, when their paychecks reflect the resetting of the 2% Social Security deduction, they will wonder why. They’ll be told that Social Security went up and they won’t remember that actually it was their state legislators who sold them out. Don’t think that this wasn’t discussed behind closed doors in Springfield. They count on people being uninformed.
The state's going broke. Perhaps Illinois can adjust their Public Aid program like Wisconsin. Wisconsin has a five year limit on Public Aid.
Contact your reps tell them cut link to people with CPS students in their family since CPS feels it neccessary to feed them all on their own since they have such a budget surpless! The politicians need to start answering up! Because they are steeling food from your table!
Time to call your state rep and senator a simple YOU SUCK will do.
I would like to thank all the unions and libs alike for extending the rule of the chief asshat Quinn. I will never use union labor what a bunch of con artists. Local 597 I couldn't stand driving by your building. Your support signs for Quinn made me sick to my stomach. Arizona was a tragedy, but after seeing how our dumb ass politicians just f@*cked us tax payers over yet again, I can see why some nut would go postal. Let's be honest folks this state and city alike will be belly up and looking like Detroit in no time. I can already see the tumble weeds beening blown down my street....
Before you begin to cut pensions from the working people supporting the state many of which are first responders who don't reap social security, cut back on Link, and other so called social programs. Oh I forgot you are afraid of them and loosing their votes because as it sits right now they will soon outnumber the working class in Illinois. Sad State of affairs....
Wisconsin is in worse financial shape than Illinois with foreclosures on homes and businesses. Check out the tax on your pensions 10.2%. The local school boards owe millions to teacher's pensions. The tax break Wisconson's new governer is touting is for two years what happens after that.
Local utilities water, electric and school district's tax the heck out of the resident's and businesses.
Where is the advantage of moving to Wisconsin? Is it the same in Ind.? Who is going to bail out these bankrupt states?
Old Retired Guy Here;
I know this is nothing more than a old man blowing off steam. That said, here are my thoughts and wishes.
I hope that some day, and in some way the truth be told about the Current Mayor of Chicago, and The Speaker of The Illinois House.
Truth is we are all to blame, we could have voted them out of office.
The photo of Senator Rickey Hendon(D) in todays Trib(fast asleep during the tax debate) pretty much sums up what this State has come to. For a little chuckle, check out his Bio on the Illinois.gov website. He lists (3) accomplishments.. (2) of them are:Attended Farragut H.S. 1969-1970 and about how his softball team won some games in a tournament. Yes we are doomed.

Of course Lisa would have to shop at the outlet mall instead of Michigan Ave...

US State Governments Prepare Attacks On Jobs, Wages, Pensions
January 1 marked the beginning of a three-week period in which new governors take office in more than half the 50 American states, including three of the four largest—California, New York and Florida.
Whether Democratic or Republican, the new state chief executives are planning major attacks on public employees and public services, including huge budget cuts and mass layoffs. In the 26 states with new governors, 23 face budget deficits, according to the Center on Budget and Policy Priorities.

ALL DEMOCRATS ARE COMMUNISTS SAYS:
Quinn is a Major Joke, his ring-around-the Rosey democommiecrat politics never really solves any of the vast, overwealming, major problems of the State of Felon-ois. The State will be far WORSE than EVER, under his leadership. A recall must be put underway immediately by Illinois Republican leadership. Illinois WILL be bankrupt soon, if this incompetent Potato-Head is allowed to continue his democrat-taxaholic ways. He has just wiped out EVERY Illinois workers raises for the past several years, as well as unlikely future raises. Just another step into Socialism, compliments of the Democommiecrat Party. The Republicans aren't nearly aggressive enough to stop this Socialist Snowball either. They are, for the most part, quick to compromise Limp-Dicks.
Sarah Palin has bigger balls than most Republican politicians do.
Now that Quinn is probably going to sign the law that abolishes the death penalty in Illinois, the freak-tards at The Sun-Times have posted bios of the 15 animals currently on Death Row.
Go interview the pricks with Flint Taylor, too. They're rock stars in the media's eyes.
When is this country going to wake the fuck up?
Both the Governors of Indiana and Wisc. are licking their chops! In a radio interview the Governor of Indiana sounded like he just won the mega millions. He stated, "the best thing for Indiana are the politicians in Springfield, IL." He said Indiana is a business friendly state and welcomes all. To all the voters that trusted the lying Pat Quinn, you get what you asked for. The problem is the other 50% of us that knew he was lying didn't ask for this. Not one republican voted for this. Quinn and his crew will spend even more now. So sad to see Illinois destroyed.
And if anyone really belives that they will drop the tax rate back down in 4 years like they said. I say vote for Quinn again.
You know, I'm really puzzled when unionized public employees diss tax increases, unions and other public employees. I guess you think you're somehow different. But nobody else does. All those people angling to cuts jobs and benefits in the public sector don't distinguish between you and the rest. Maybe they say they do when they need votes, and maybe they should, but they don't.
You cut your own throats with that attitude.
And I'm a taxpayer, who doesn't take a penny from government. But I get that politicians who promise to cut taxes without cutting essential services, like police protection, are liars. This tax increase is big because it's long overdue. And I hope our new Mayor, whoever it is, has the guts to raise taxes enough to pay what we owe to your pensions, and bring the payroll numbers up to where they should be.
Give me my pension medical (GOD willing)in 4 years and bye to this fucked up state forever! With all the free welfare, link and I work downtown almost everyone of these pos scumbags have a govnt. issues cell phone they get 260 minutes FREE a month no charge and can call anywhere, plus they get the free phones! Just heard oily eddie burke on the news talking about the DREAM act, that congress should give all the illegals free college as we struggle to pay for our kids citizens! This city is fast becoming shithole#! Hey eddie how about you give some of your 9 MILLION laying around to the illegals? How about it edward with your what 7 police guards being paid D-3 pay + the city cars, free gas, free insurance, and your huge expense account eddie please STFU!
How about all the fraud in the eltitlements? The last 7 out of 9 people I arrested all had link cards and were buying or selling dope. 5 of them were on SSI for some fake illiness like ADD or depression. The dope heads with the link cards like to buy people groceries with them and in return get cash so they can buy more dope.
It's a shame that Illinois is a safe heaven for dead beats, but a cancer for productive people and business.
Another huge scam and I'm sure many others have seen it also. In the last month I have seen three convicted felons with voter registrations cards. When asked how they got them they usually say, "they just asked me to sign up." ILLIOIS IS JOKE! Thanks Madigan and Quinn!
I am definitely moving to a state where I can live comfortably. Illinois can go suck. Screw the liberals.
1/13/2011 01:34:00 AM
If you're retired, don't move to Wisconsin....they tax our pensions, Illinois doesn't..
Cowardly greedy motherfuckers, unwilling to cut where it needs it. The sweetheart contracts, bloated management, illegal alien benefits and oveerhauling IDPA.
Kid Daley in Washington has to sell his JP Morgan stock. Something like $7.7 million dollars worth.
Now I ask ya..will he pull a Rhambo and claim he's an Illinois resident with the intention of always returning to Chicago and pay the state tax?
BTW, this residency thing should work both ways in Illinois right?
I mean that you can buy a shack in some low tax part of the country, throw a few bags of old clothes inside and call it your residence as you always intend to move. there. So there ya go. We're not residence of Illinois why should we have to pay tax here?
Heh yeah I know, I know.
I run a small tech business in the city. We're out.
Being in tech, it's super simple for us to move our operation since all we have to do is relocate our HQ to Munster or Schererville or St. John. Other businesses don't enjoy this kind of portability and will suffer, cut jobs, etc.
One employee is coming with, one is unable to, due to his owning a home in Evanston and it being too far to commute. So, chalk up at least one middle-class job in Illinois lost to this scheme.

The state has a $17 billion dollar budget gap. The state has $77.8 billion dollars in unfunded pension liabilities. Does anyone think that they are done and these tax and fee increases are enough?
$77.8 Billion dollars!
Shortfall Threatens Illinois Pension System
March 24, 2010
If states could go bankrupt, Illinois might be the first.
State finances are in such a mess that many experts say the "Land of Lincoln" is on borrowed time and money.
One of the biggest issues is a huge unfunded pension liability. According to the Pew Center on the States, Illinois is worst in the nation when it comes to setting aside enough money for its pensions. Its analysis of states' pension funds in 2008 found Illinois had set aside just 54 percent of the money that's been promised to its state workers and retirees.
Today, the unfunded pension liability in Illinois is much greater than the pension funds' assets, and has ballooned to a staggering $77.8 billion.
"That means every man, woman and child in the state of Illinois is on the hook for $6,031 in pension promises that we don't have the assets for," says Lawrence Msall, president of The Civic Federation, a Chicago-based group that keeps tabs on state and local government finances.
------------------
Hey, taking the money from an FICA tax break of 2%, then increasing the state tax by 2% is not the answer.
You're seen as robbing the private sector's social security for the public pensions benefit.
The social contracts are being broken for the entire middle class while the investment bankers that set this whole global economic crisis in motion go free.
It's time that Illinoisan's take a close look in how we determine who are the qualified politicians that we empower in office.
Often times we choose the people with the most clout -- the politically connected, the people with million dollar net worth's, thinking the clout will be good for all.
Ask yourself. How's that plan working out for y'all?
We are empowering and electing people that feel so guilty about what they are doing that it has to be done at 2 am in the morning while you're asleep hoping that you don't notice. (i.e. Meigs field destroyed and the latest tax increases)
These people are unwilling or unable to even look you in the face when doing their jobs.
keep buying weapons and ammo folks.
The GOP is going to STEAMROLL Illinois in 2016. Lisa Madigan could raise $500 million and it wouldn't make a difference.
1/13/2011 06:36:00 AM
Yeah, right. The idiots had a vote two fucking months ago and they put Quinn in after he told them he would do this.
Illinois voters are too stupid to vote for those who would balance the fucking budget.
Why are these morons "overspending"? It's called "live within your means" and that should apply to personal budgets as well as public budgets. Now when are the dumb voters in ILL going to finally "get it" and NOT vote these inept overspenders into office?
The GOP is going to STEAMROLL Illinois in 2016.
Illinois will cease to exist before 2016.
The state income tax does NOT affect retirement income: pensions, IRA's, Social Security etc regardless of age.
There are two ways to compare state tax burdens.
1. Per Capita. All state and local taxes divided by the number of citizens.
2. Percentage of the state and local taxes of the total income of the state's residents.
Illinois was ranked about 38th by both measurements before the tax increase. I'm unsure where we will stand now, but I'm sure we'll move up in the rankings. Unlike basketball that ain't a good thing rankings wise.
Even after the tax increases we are still taxed less than the Cheeseheads and comparable to the Hoosiers so their governors can STFU.
Now I have a plan to reduce the tax burden in Illinois. It involves surplus military weapons, the Thornton quarry, emptying prisons and Rod Blago in a wig and a dress and pardons to the survivors.
Madigan spokesman Steve Brown was on WGN News putting out the bullshit for Madigan about the tax hike. After listening to him I feel like it is our fault they overspent by billions and put us in debt. Brown made people feel like it was a good thing and they should cheer their taxes are going up.
Wait a minute, Mile Madigan is SPEAKER of the House, he speaks for the whole Illinois House of Representatives. Yet for some reason he has a "spokesman" out there spreading the bullshit around.
What a crock of shit. Fucking Madigan seems like a goddamn mafioso crime boss. Doesn't want the limelight, just wants to keep control. And he shoves some shill out there to tell us the lies.
Fuck Mike Madigan and the whole Madigan family.

I hope they raise the fucking gas tax to $2.50 a gallon. Then no one will buy gas here again. Even the damn City will buy out of state.
Anybody who thinks Wisconsin is any better than Illinois when it comes to taxe rates should check again. Even with these asinine tax raises the base rates for individuals and busineses in Illinois is still lower in Illinois than in Wisconsin. People have been fleeing Wisc. for years because of the personal income tax rates and when it comes to property tax rates it's even higher. Plus, if you're close to retirement age welcome to Wisconsin where they'll gladly tax the pension check that for now isn't taxed in Illinois.
So tell the cheesehead governor from Wisconsin to take his shit back north of the border and tell the cheeseheads to stay bent over!

City Council resolution on undocumented workers
Posted by John Byrne at 5:54 p.m.
The City Council passed a resolution today calling on the federal government to stop deporting people who belong to families in which there are members of "mixed status."
The resolution says undocumented workers should not be deported if they have family members who are U.S. citizens, or children who would be eligible for citizenship under the stalled federal "Dream Act."
==========================
My, my we can't have the illegal immigrants leaving with the living wages jobs too! We'll lose more representatives in Washington if our population falls. We'll lose government grant money.
Hey, anyone else feel that, the city counsel feeling that there will be a mass exodus of workers leaving the state because of the new taxes is trying to offset the run as to not lose more representatives in Washington?
Naaaah, I'm probably giving them credit for too much forward thinking and intelligence.
Probably more like an election stunt whereas certain mayoral candidates can grandstand on -- to win some hearts and minds.
Don't worry though. Right after elections it will be back to business as usual until 2 am the night before the next batch is kicked out of office.
Dick Durbin of Illinois is in his late mother's homeland, Lithuania!?
Is this on the taxpayers dime? When the state is $18 billion dollars in debt?
And why didn't Quinn take those donations for the Governor ball and deposit them towards the states debt instead of throwing parties?
Why don't Rham and the rest of the mayoral candidates take their campaign money that they raised and pay off the city debt instead of self promoting his ego.
Hey any mayor that raises enough campaign contributions to pay off the cities debt and then pays it off I'll support 100%
Stop throwing the parties and dinners for favors down the road.
To the guy talking about 023 dist. 023 tact is a bunch of great officers, however, the watches are filled with goofs. Complete assholes, and smug. I once witness a PPO during the construction ask this question "excuse me, do you know where I can park" Copper just looked away and drove off.
Thanks to all yo NW side Mulro supporters. Yeah he was a great guy in high school but he's a real JAG-OFF now! The tax increase passed by one vote, HIS VOTE, so make sure to thank him at your next high school reunion, if you can afford the entry price.

The governer of Wisconsin was on WLS / Roe Conn show Wednesday.
He states Wisconsin will give a 2 year tax break to all Illinois businesses that come from Illinois.
Thanks for voting Demo-cratic everyone!
Now BEND OVER!
Roe Conn is a fucking douche. Him and his film critic side kick wouldn't take a hard stand ever. Wolf and Proft have the best local show on.

I did not know this. My friend saw someone get cash from their LINK card. Yes, it is true. Not sure who qualifies. But yes you cannot use LINK to buy booze, cigs, but after you get the cash you can!!!
I am so afraid that the next time I see some able bodied person use a LINK card I will get arrested.

Gary Chico says:
When a business’s come to City Hall to expand or open a new business; instead of giving them a hug (for employing a hundred or so unemployed people) they give ‘em a RULE BOOK . . .
HE IS RIGHT!!!!!!
Chico has my vote.

YUP
Last one out, turn the lights off please.
"How about cutting welfare and LINK payments by the same percentage? After alll, all the Politicians involved say 'we are all in this together'"
That'll never happen.
The LINKers are a huge portion of the democratic voters.
The rest are people who clearly have no concept of what's going on, like teachers who were happy about the tax increase; "Now there'll be more money for education!" they crowed.
Yeah. Illinois owes missions to provate companies from which it receives goods and services. These people will have to be paid so that state operations don't come to a complete halt.
Reduce politicians' pay to $1 per hour and cut their pensions to nothing!
Thanks for voting Demo-cratic everyone!
I didn't vote Demo-cratic! :)
Last one out, turn the lights off please.

link/welfare is just a mechanism to force the working citizens to financially adopt our society's retarded progeny.
after all, every body thinks it has a right to live, and live well.
the inevitable Darwinian correction is coming.

This is common in the Department these days. Used to be that a copper that was too afraid to do his job was treated badly by the rest of the rank and file. At least until he came around.
Now, everybody just ignores it and treats him like every other working copper. There used to be a lot of pride on this job and we made sure everyone flew right. Now, we are just a bunch of time clock punchers. You should have been around before.
J-FLED didn't start it, but he sure set a new record for killing moral. Everyone not getting on these coppers is part of the problem.

Whatever nonesense you have to spew is of no matter, but don't use profanity and the name of our creator in the same sentence. Jerk.
Truth is we are all to blame, we could have voted them out of office.
1/13/2011 09:52:00 AM
Not so. Not all are to blame. Some were hip to these shitbird politicians all along, just not enough to have a revolution.
Now we have Mr. Potato Head as our governor. He is a liar and a goof as much as Ryan and Blago were corrupt. Lord help us, please.
Caution:
The Following Message May Be Deemed Inappropriate For The Politically Naive.
The Current Speaker Of The House,Runs The State Of Illinois.
He Does Have Council With The Current Mayor of the City of Chicago.
The Governor,Senators,Aldermen, etc etc. They Are Nothing More Than "Yes" Men,and Women. They Are Just An Illusion Created To Give You An Illusion Of A Democracy.
"With All Our Rage, We Are Still Just Rats In A Cage"
Reading all this, I can only say:
Y'all come on down to Flawida. It would be nice to have a conversation which does NOT include how to cook an armadillo.
No income tax, housing market (SEVERELY) depressed, like everywhere.
Love to have a CPD retirement b'fast at the local Waffle House.
(MAWNIN, Y'ALL) I think that means "good morning?"
"Yeah. Illinois owes missions to provate companies from which it receives goods and services. These people will have to be paid so that state operations don't come to a complete halt."
Sorry...drinking while posting. Correction follows...
Illinois owes MILLIONS to PRIVATE companies...
"How about shutting down the Thompson Center and laying off the carbon copy state government in Chicago and going to work in Springfield where all these people are supposed to be?
"What would that save? $300-400 million or so?"

Ya, leave the almighty ShortShanks out of this!
Yet the LINK and SSI users get their benefits/income increased.
Not sure of the increase, but they sure do have a lot of loop holes to use. In Illinois, the maximum anyone can be on welfare is 5 years. HOWEVER, you are required to work. Yes, I said work. For a single parent it means a 30 hour work week. For a married couple, it's 35 hours.
BUT, according to the Illinois Department of Human Services web site: "The hours spent in programs for substance abuse, domestic violence and mental health count toward meeting the work requirement."
There are ways to stop the clock on the 5 year limitation. The following are a few examples:
The time limit ("stopped clock provision) stops for clients who:
Work at least 30 hours per week and still qualify for cash assistance (30 hours for single-parent families and 35 hours for two-parent families);
Are single-parents and attend a postsecondary education program fulltime and maintain a cumulative 2.5 grade point average;
Provide constant in-home care for a medically dependent child under 21 ;
Provide care for a disabled child or spouse; or
Are approved for a Domestic Violence Exclusion.
That last one, Domestic Violence Exclusion, should be on everyone's (at least in patrol)mind the next time you get a domestic call.
Basically, if someone is on public aid and it's about to run out, all they have to do to extend it is have a police report for domestic violence. Once that is provided, they are granted a 2 month extention. And that can go on and on but they would have to under go a monthly reassessment of their situation.
"Thanks to all yo NW side Mulro supporters."
He betrayed his district. To kowtow to the rest of the chicago combine. Lets make sure its "one term Mulro"
Madigan talks, Quinn does.
