Sneed Heats Up the Rumor Mill

  • Sneed hears Police Supt. Jody Weis, whose tour in office has been pockmarked by brickbats and patches of praise, has been asked to stay on past his contract date.

Translation: Weis, whose contract is up March 1, is expected to stay until May 16, Mayor Daley’s last day in office.

The kicker: Is there some reluctance to put it in writing?
Of course there's some reluctance. If there was a contract, this couldn't happen:
  • Obama drama: The hottest rumor floating around the police department: Former deputy police Supt. Mark Shields, a cousin of first lady Michelle Obama — whom Weis promoted and then demoted — would be named interim police superintendent by Mayor Daley until his successor names a replacement. (Shields is now head of security for the Chicago Public Schools.)
And confirmation on Brust leaving:
  • Meanwhile, Peter Brust, an FBI veteran hired by Weis as deputy superintendent of professional standards, is leaving for the private sector — and is being replaced by former IAD chief Debra Kirby, who created the department’s domestic violence response — ascending to the second-highest-ranking female in the police department.
And of course, there are the rats in the shadows positioning themselves to continue the Department's pain (from the comment section):
  • 3M has been working the circuit and burning up the phone lines trying to secure a top spot on the CPD.

Well, it looks like he may have succeeded. 3M has been rubbing elbows with Rahm who is impressed by the Boy Wonder.

There are rumors of some imminent moves. If Roussell and Ray Ray move up then we will know 3M is running the ship.
It sure looks like Rahm is writing off the police vote if this is happening. We wonder what his internal polls are showing.

No one cares about the police vote, we should all know that by now. We can't agree on a lunch location, let alone politics. Bring on JFLED for 3 more years!!

And speaking of department issues...

Is the CityWide Team that's running for FOP again in bed with Rahm???

A few of their representatives were in our roll call the other night and my partner asked Aguliar (sp?) what their plan was for 1) - wage compression and 2) - the 2 tiered pension plan and how it'll effect both the new hires and existing officers.

ANSWER??? That's NOT on our agenda.

NOT on the agenda???? WTF is that about??? Our pension is either the 1st or possibly 2nd reason all of us took this job. Social Security isn't going to be around for those of us that may actually have put enough into that program to be eligible for it. The economy sucks right now - those planning on pulling the pin soon may have to rethink that strategy...

AND THE GUYS WHO WANT TO KEEP RUNNING OUR UNION SAY "IT'S NOT ON OUR AGENDA".

I know you probably won't publish a comment that suggests one candidate over another (yet?), so without naming names, MY vote is going to the guys that have knowledge of pension issues and actually HAVE A PLAN regarding my pension, which is my future.

Get educated, folks. The mayoral election isn't the only important election coming up. FOP election starting 02 Feb 11. Your future livelihood and financial well-being is on the chopping block thanks to the intentions of a certain mayoral candidate.

Ask Rahm about HIS role in Fannie&Freddie mortgage circus with Barney Frank and Maxine Waters? What about his pay as advisor&board member of said mortgage companies? Why wont the media ask the tough questions??? You got it..This City and media STINKS of political DEMOCROOK corruption. Mr Fitzgerald, what about Rahms role IF ANY in the Senate appointment of Roland Burris that Blago was indicted for? Since Rahm is a viable Mayoral candidate..Dont the Chicago tax payers have a right to know the answer to these questions?? Isnt that why you indicted Blago immediately after the ALLEGED crime took place??You said you wanted to protect the voters..Right?? How about those wiretap conversations that we hear about in the media that MAY contain Rahms voice? Sir, I sadly say my opinion is that the AUSA office and FBI are compromised...I thought that our political leaders were supposed to be held to a higher standard like LEO's? Sir, I really hoped that your tenure in the Northern District would have shed light on this corrupt Chicago way of politics? In this City of corruption...The more things change, the more they stay the same..Dont the honest, hard working CLOUTLESS men and women of this City and State deserve better than the status quo of this CORRUPT City and State? I believe so.. I have dedicated my life to making this City a SAFER and BETTER place for ALL.. Not just the CLOUTED who continue to steal with arrogance and laugh at those of us who follow the law and play by the rules..

off the topic but take note also. Madigan is actually a very sharp politician. Come 2015 Lisa Madigan will run for Governor and by then the state income tax will decrease according to the new legislation. Makes total sense. They are clearing the road for her to become governor. By then the business affairs will be sorted out and she will coast into the governors mansion. Quinn is the "bad guy" for Lisa's endeavors of higher office. She is a potential VP candidate as well.

Unless of course you never had a fucking job before this one and elect to stay well after the customary 20 and out,and are too decrepid to get another job and pay into your quarters. Again, 20 and out a relo and a finger. Other wise you will be fucked as you have put all your eggs into one shity city basket.

I really think that the city unions have to come out and endorse a non-rahm candidate, and fast. I personally believe Chico might be the only other one with a chance to beat rahm, but i don't really care who they choose, just choose.
If all the city unions come out against rahm, that is some power. But it can't be last minute, it's gotta be soon so we can get really get behind another candidate.
I'd be willing to do anything to help another candidate beat rahm.

That guy is going to truly ruin our city and as he stated in numerous interviews - reduced the pensions of CURRENT employees. There's no was we can accept this. If any city worker votes for this guy they mine as well just hand over 5-10% of their pension.

Mayor Daley clearly does not care what we think nor of what is best for the city right now, but Superintendent Weis is not that person! If Boy Wonder Mike Masters has impressed Rahm, he is easily impressionable then. The unfortunate thing is that the real hard working police force is constantly being short cut for the benefit of those as the two above. We really need the police to run the police department and allowing them to move past this federal fiasco and back into the reality of street police work is step one! The First Deputy now named Asst. Supt. of Operations should be allowed to do his job and represent the troops as well. Why should we continue to watch our department spiral downward based on egos and opinions! Especially those of Jfed, MM and Mayor Daley!

I am very surprised at Rahm for wanting to cut laborers pensions. We worked for it, we should get it! That is why I took this job! I could have made 3 times as much in the private sector. Though I am moving on soon, that was my purpose, start young, get a pension and move on! I did the work for the money you promised, now I want my money.

Its funny how all of these politicians that are making decisions about our pension are all getting full pensions no matter what that includes raises and health care! All better than what we get! If anything, start there! Start with the politicians pensions, then lets move on to city laborers etc. Lets start at the Federal level, then State, then city! Look at YOUR pensions before you look at ours, hell you all are the ones that allocated the funds that left us in this deficit!

We can tell. Is that why it sometimes takes a whole police district to put down the riots?

Rahm tells Chicago union bosses pensions have to be cut

Via the indispensable Labor Union Report, comes news that Chicago mayoral candidate Rahm Emanuel is bluntly telling union bosses that pensions will have to be cut:

In contrast to his main rivals in the mayor’s race, Rahm Emanuel has told labor leaders that he favors reducing pension benefits for the city’s existing work force and not just for new hires.

Although Mr. Emanuel has not yet publicly detailed his plan to confront the city’s perennial budget deficits and the severely underfinanced employee pension funds, he told union officials in a private meeting on Dec. 15 that he thought it could be necessary to cut the pensions of all employees, said people who attended the meeting.

BURKE ENDORSES CHICO FOR MAYOR

"CHICAGO (CBS) – Former Chicago Board of Education president Gery Chico picked up another major endorsement Thursday, when Ald. Edward Burke (14th) – the powerful chair of the City Council Finance Committee – backed him to replace Mayor Richard M. Daley.

“I’m in favor of him, he’s a wonderful public servant, he’s a good candidate and I’m going to do everything I can in the 14th Ward to encourage the voters to vote for him,” Burke told CBS 2 Chief Correspondent Jay Levine Thursday.

"Burke touted Chico’s record of public service in Chicago, including work as Daley’s chief of staff, school board president, Park District Board President and City Colleges boss..."

Yes---Every single day. This is a fact!!

Kirby clearly has something on someone as she is not the sharpest tool in the shed and I'm not sure how she got through law school.

She has two of her cronies running for FOP office on the Shields Team. She'll run the Department AND our union. Careful, people.

Just to clear the air about some false postings,

The candidate on the Shields Team who was accused anonymously of working on PO's 30 day pending cases categorically and emphatically denies this.

He has never taken part in any internal investigation regarding police misconduct whatsoever.

The entire disciplinary process is handled through the Bureau of Professional Standards starting through IAD or IPRA up through the Deputy Sup. of that Bureau, not OLA.

The notion that this candidate for FOP office, with the rank of police officer is in charge of or participates in making decisions regarding termination is something out of fantasy land.

This officer is a Legal Officer I in pay grade, Police Officer in rank.

He is NOT in command channel review and does NOT work on getting officers terminated.

This is simply the last gasp false accusations of a group of individuals facing regime change.

An exempt told me that yes they are. They change an exempt's seniority date since it is unpaid status, no work, no pay.

It does not count against them for pension purposes unless they took an entire unpaid month off at once.

It is like working 29 and a day, work one day in the month and get pension credit for that month.

But losing the seniority, damn, that could have implications for some if their date of appointment was close to their eventual retirement day. They could well have to make those days up.

We are not the only ones richy screws.

Remember, shared sacrifice.

We sacrifice, they take their share.

Richard M Daley leaves with three (3) public pensions! Not bad, I bet Rahm doesn't try to cut those pensions, what do you think?

'Shields was incompetent as a Deputy and was dumped because of it... which, I guess, makes him an ideal choice for Superintendent or 1st Deputy.'

NOTHING could be further from the truth! Shields was a very competent Deputy Chief of Area 2, and a good boss when he was Deputy Supt. of Strategic Deployment. the problem was twofold:
1) Shields was never a 'yes man' to the many dumb ideas floated about at those high level meetings with J-Fled and 3M., and would give those two honest assessments of their so-called 'brainstorming.' 3M stated several times that Shields wasn't a 'team player' because Shields had the guts to let those two assholes know that many of their so-called ideas wouldn't work.
2) 3M made numerous attempts to micromanage the bureau of Strategic Deployment, and the bosses in that bureau weren't having it, which is why all exempts in that bureau were demoted.
That's the truth. If Shields comes back as the Supt., it would be a blessing, but it's doubtful it would happen. EB will pull out every stop to make sure he's at least a finalist for that post, and the 'serial sexual predator beefs on file' be damned.

This guy is a good officer and a good guy. In order to better understand the video, you would have to see the set questions he was asked by the organizer prior to being recorded. The inquired about "racism" in the police department; he replied that he stood up to those that practiced those attitudes. We should never accept those practices in the department that services a large population of minorities.

We all know that racism exist within the department, but should it be accepted, NO. It is 2011, we should be able to be the police no matter was race we are; we should treat people with respect despite their race.

Just take the opportunity to listen to the video in entirety before passing judgement. He explains his support and dedication to the department. We should support our fellow blue brothers that are seeking advancement in their career development.

Kirby and Murphy are politically clouted 19th warders who have been destined for greatness since they came on the job. They have very close ties to Daley. Their being placed in the positions they are now in is the machine moving to take over more control of the department, just when you thought it couldn't get worse. Kirby will have complete control over disciplining officers and liaisoning with IPRA, and she is no friend of the working police. Murphy controls the department's purse strings. They will both have direct lines from the mayor's office along with 3M and Roman. If Chico wins, they probably stay and Daley keeps his ties and control of the Department. If Rahm wins, they still may stay if Bill Daley has any sway over Rahm, which he does. Murphy and Kirby will do what they are told by Daley, unquestioned loyalty despite knowing how dirty Daley and the Machine are. How do they live with themselves? Do they feel any guilt at all?

Of course there's some reluctance.

Shields was in every single one before that e-mail. Dougherty told us at are roll call that the only reason he wasn't in the August newsletter is that the audit and constitution and by-law amendments took up an extra 2 and a half pages. Look in the mirror, because you are racist from the word go. Get yourself another job Rodger! Why not just spew your hatred for whitey full time at your church or get a job with Chicago's most racist club--Operation Push?
What should an officer in a predominantly black ward like the 24th ward do, not arrest black men/women to appease you?
I live in the predominantly white 19th ward and I don't go to church or fucking you tube and speak about the mistreatment of white offenders, you know why, because I am not ashamed to say they are probably whitetrash and probably guilty.

What you are writing about SS is only half of how Rostenkowski screwed us. The other half is that if your spouse worked as mine did for 30 years , you are entitled to 1/2 of the spouses SS but because of Dan you only get what is above 2/3 of your pension, which is zero. I am retired collecting $60,000 so any spousal SS would have to be over $40,000 which is impossible so because of this I am losing $800 a month as my spouse is collecting $1,600 a month SS and a citizen without a municipal pensionn would be entitled to that $800 This regulation is called the Government Pension Offset and was passed in 1983

tell me why a cr# has not been generated on him for his remarks about the bashing of the department. What a jag bag.

This police officer should be ashamed of himself. He uses race because he thinks it will help him get elected. What a sad man.

I heard Ron Holt's interview on WGN radio. Did they promote him from Police Officer to Commander without giving him any media relations/public speaking training? He's probably the most uninformed and unprepared boss I've ever heard interviewed. The host wasn't your typical media lap dog and really let him have it.

Who could train him? Think about it.

To all you dreamers: MSF does not need LIttle Sean as the Commander, he is just a little boy, 38 yrs old and wants to be one of the guys, you can't lead that way. He can barely manage his watch and everyone blames Lt. Paul for all the crap, he is more competent then Sean will ever be, and Ryan from TRU will not be moved lateraly, he has the 19th ward hook up, wathc for him to be D/C of the Central Control Group, or return to the 1st district while Chris kennedy takes the spot./

"Weis, whose contract is up March 1, is expected to stay until May 16, Mayor Daley’s last day in office."

M-a-a-a-a-r-c-h......

A-a-a-a-p-r-i-l......

M-a-a-a-a-a-a-y......

These are going to be some of the longest months ever.

I hope Daley sells the parks to China by the time he leaves, so there'll be some working washrooms open.

****************************************************

I spent THREE months in China.... There idea of a bathroom is a HOLE IN THE FLOOR, no toilet at all.....You take down your pants and HOPE you hit the hole.......... Be careful for what you wish for. There are no sanitary conditions in China even in the finest of restaurants. With food you had to order 6 main courses to eat one that wasn't moving. Be CAREFUL... I don't want to be eating half cooked and still alive roaches slithering across my plate when i open that aluminum cover. I also don't want to play the "aim for the shithole game" EVER again!

Ald. Ed Burke endorsed Chico for a reason......Chico got his first job with the city through Ed Burke and his Finance Committee, long before he even became a lawyer. He went to law school while working for Burke and worked his way up. Chico owes Burke and will keep him on as Finance Chairman if elected.

-------------------------------

I'd drive around Burke if it means keeping Emanuel's 9.5 fingers off my hard earned pension.

Vote Chico!

Whoever is saying that Kirby isn't smart has never worked around her. Kirby is very, very book smart and probably has common sense under the right circumstances. Her intelligence is what has become a hindrance on this job. When CPD began using computers at headquarters obviously none of the big bosses knew how to do anything w/them. Kirby, among others, was recruited because of her ability to work her way around these new-fangled machines. Because she never spent much time on the street she lacks empathy and the type of common sense required to understand the job of a working police officer. As far as I'm concerned, a far, far worse crime is the fact that she is far and away the most boring fucking human being I've ever met.

watch out for kirby, she is the annoited south side irish princess on the police department--- she takes things very personal--- she is where she is at because she knows to much and was given her last 2 spots to keep her quiet--- with her signing off on things, you better make your phone call now because you don't stand a farts chance in a wind storm without one--- the better solution is to just ride on your calls until you can put in your papers and begin your life after cpd.....
