Illinois Lags Behind

  • Even as the economy grew and the unemployment rate began to shrink, the number of Illinois households getting food stamps hit record levels in December, showing no signs of an economic recovery, and area food pantries say they’ve continued to see more people asking for help.

There were 857,282 households enrolled last month in what is now called the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program, commonly called food stamps. That was up 12.7 percent from a year earlier, according to figures provided to the Chicago Sun-Times by the Illinois Department of Human Services.

Rapidly closing in on a one-in-twelve ratio of persons on assistance. And that's just government aid. Private entities are seeing a surge in people needing food:
  • ...the Greater Chicago Food Depository, which distributes food through a network of 650 pantries, soup kitchens and shelters in Cook County. Representatives note it has seen a roughly 65 percent to 70 percent increase in individuals served at its pantries since 2007.
The country is far from being out of the woods at the moment. Illinois isn't even anywhere near the path.

Nationwide, food stamps as of the USDA Oct 2010 numbers, the latest ones available -- one in eight are on the program. 43.2 million people.

I tell you what though.

Illinois has a population of about 13 million people. If we continue to add 800,000 per month it will take what..about 16 months for the entire state to be on food stamp!!

Hunger and the Lies told about people going hungry in America is the biggest scam going.
When I go to Jewel Foods,I stand behind lines of people with shopping carts, overflowing with can goods, apple juice, bottled water, beer,"YES BEER", they are paying with Link Cards. They are all dressed well, many with veiled head scarfs. They all are driving late model cars. They all appear to be very well fed. Many are what some might refer to as "Fat Slobs".
Do you think I should feel guilty ? Well I don't give to any of these food organizations. I think they are large money generating machines, for people who know how to game the system.

Let's not forget how many people scam the system. I couldn't tell you how many times I've been at the grocery store and seen someone with their fancy cell phone and designer purse swipe a LINK card. It might not be as bad if they actually cracked down on LINK fraud.

I think if these people are going to get assistance there should be a 2-year max that you can get assistance for as well as limits to what they get:

1. No grape/red/orange 2 liters,
water does just fine.
2. No Flamin hots.
3. No Cookies n Cream cereal, only
plain ol' Cherios.
4. No frozen pizzas, 3-5 boxes of
ice cream, freeze pops, etc.

It fuckin kills me when these people have cart loads of "groceries" of shit they otherwise wouldn't be able to afford.

With these changes, see how fast these people move out of the state.

Why is Washington Park Illinois like Camden NJ?

They're falling like domino's

-----clip-----

CAMDEN, N.J. (AP) -- Yet another crisis is upon this burdened city, among the most impoverished and crime-ridden in the country.

Deep layoffs of city workers go into effect on Tuesday -- cutting up to 383 jobs, or one-fourth of the city's employees.

The exact number depends on whether public workers' unions make last-minute concessions. In any case, the cuts are likely to be deep -- and could be a blow to the quality of life in a city where more than half the 80,000 residents, mostly black and Hispanic, live in poverty.

Worst case, the layoffs could slash half the police force and one-third of the fire department for this city just across the Delaware River from Philadelphia. Practically every other job in the city is likely to be affected.

A police union, meanwhile, took out a full page advertisement last week in the Courier-Post of Cherry Hill, warning that Camden would become a "living hell" if layoffs were not averted.

Camden is getting the guardian angels to take over. 3 out of the last 7 mayors in prison. Crime rampant. The state telling this minority community that they have to pull themselves up by their bootstraps and it's impossible

==============

Washington Park Illinois -

Another minority community with the median poverty wage of about $21,132. The mayor was found shot and murdered a few months ago. The town tried to file for bankruptcy and the judge threw the case out. They have $1 million dollars in bills and only $50,000 dollars in assets. How you gonna raise taxes on the 5,000 residence in poverty to pay those bills...and if you cut what's left of public service, tell me that's not a powder keg set to blow!

Washington Park also owed trash haulers, the police pension fund and even one of its many topless nightclubs.

Well you have certain mayoral candidates that want the city to embrace the illegal immigrants and put more illegal immigrants children in our schools.

I have only one question.

Will the Wal-Mart like jobs or the lawn care services that they work at pay these people enough where the taxes they pay will support the burden that their children place on our schools?

This is a political scam.

We let more illegals in, send their kids to our schools and we then have a tool to use, the school kids, to use to win the hearts and minds of the taxpayers for MORE taxes.

Oh look at the little doe-eyed children as they play them as victims. It's not their fault.

Now give us more tax money!

Food Stamps. The new name for the program is called SNAP and the benefits do go on a LINK card.

Hey, the politicians and corporations create this environment so that they have something to point at and use as fear and a distraction from the real thefts going on.

You don't want to end up like them over there now do ya?

How many Illegal immigrants do we have to bring into the city to enable Illinois to add back that representative congressman that we lost btw?

That's all the politicians care about -- expanding their kingdom.

They care not that you have to pay to support them. Let 'em in. Get the population back up so that some politically connected relative can get an Illinois job as US congressman.

It is very common for a person making a purchase with a LINK card to buy both food items (covered) and non-food items (not covered). The food items ring up first on the card, and the person then pays cash for everything else; soap, cleaning supplies, whatever.

Be sure you know what you're seeing; if you see an actual violation, report it to the State of Illinois on their online hot-line. You'll find it if you're bothered enough.

Those state computers are programmed that a bar-code of "MILLER HILIFE 12OZ X 30 CAN" or "CENTRELLA DISH DETERG 32 OZ" are simply not going to go through. They print out at the bottom as "cash items."

I see things that make me mad too -- I am a very good, careful shopper and don't buy much "junk food" -- but I am not a "LINK detective." I don't know the people or what their circumstances might be.

I routinely shop for an elderly person using one of these cards. That is not anyone's business. If you've decided that it is your business and that you wish to be removed from the store, make a move.(That's never happened.)

Ease up or I am gonna start buying a bag a Flamin Hots for myself every time I go... (grin)

Just kidding; El Yucateco Salsa Verde de Chile Habanero is more what a man would put on a good Mexican dinner, along with the sour cream and a twist of lime juice...separates the men from the boys...

Things aren't always what they apppear to be. Sometimes we see what we want to see, rather than what is really there.

God bless all, this cold weekend (and gonna get REALLY cold) -- and if you've got big bowls of chips and dip and cold cuts and Heineken's and other good stuff left over from the Bears game (which I missed, dammit) then enjoy, and count yourselves as fortunate.

The effect of the economy can be seen at Jemel's Food store's financial results for the third quarter.

---clip--

On Tuesday, Supervalu was the first of the grocers to report quarterly results, and the numbers for its fiscal third quarter were ominous: A loss of $202 million, or 95 cents a share, compared with a profit of $109 million, or 51 cents, in the same period a year earlier. The company, which operates Albertsons, Jewel-Osco, Acme and other chains, also cut its forecast for the year

http://finance.yahoo.com/news/Why-supermarket-stocks-are-apf-904020854.html?x=0&sec=topStories&pos=7&asset=&ccode=

So yeah..let's cut off all the people in Illinois on food stamps and force more layoffs at the grocery store. Cut off those 99-ers on unemployment too and let's see what happens just for kicks

We are most likely looking at more layoffs already as commodity prices have been soaring and the grocery chains are unable to pass the cost onto the customers because the customers are busted.

Take a peak at the graphs for commodity futures on this cnn web site and see the price increases coming our way if nothing is done soon.

Pull down the graph menu and set it to year and then pull down corn and it's up 76% -- Wheat up 55% -- soybeans up 44% -- cattle up 25~27% -- Coffee up 66%...the list goes on. Cotton, damn cotton is up 96% YTD

Massive inflation with a dash of income tax increases. Anyone that is grabbing early retirement plans that have no cost of living adjustments should prepare themselves.

I don't know what Dominick's {Albertson's} is except for a chain of not-very-clean public washrooms. I left my whole order on the belt years ago over a fifty-cent discount and have never been back. Anyone with their own car who keeps driving it to Dominick's is a fool. Their prices are the highest and they will be the first to go under.

Jewel is struggling along, and doing better than Dominicks. Your complaints will be listened to; the last sh__head checker who annoyed me was given a long nylon strap and set to dragging carts in out of the cold rain. He is no longer with them.

I hit Aldi for staples, and some of the smaller neighborhood "marts" and independents for oddball needs like good English tea. No "food desert" here; I stil have to get to a Korean specialty place for some kimchi and gojuchang...

Chicago is a great place to buy food if you're not loitering outside the doors and attacking the customers as they come out...

Massive inflation? What a suprise, as Obamao and the rest of the democrat thieves pump trillions of fake money into the system to prop up the link card free shit economy of non-producers and illegals. Great. I don't care if the bearer is elderly or not, if you use a link card you are getting free shit on my labor, and I am sick and freaking tired of it. My old man isn't rich, put a bit together and lives on it. Should he run out of cash before he runs out of time then I and my siblings will be supporting him, not expecting anyone else to.

Hey tough guy with the elderly person's link card, I hope I do see you so I can laugh at your ghetto free shit mentality. See, it IS my business, because they choose to spend MY fucking money for their stuff. If they spent THEIR OWN money it would not be MY business. Remember, it isn't really free, its ghetto free, in other words stolen or taken from someone else.

Saw an article where Daley was quoted as saying more cities may default.

That sounds like their plan. They have dug themselves into such a deep hole that there is no way out. So just let it collapse and start all over again.

If China will let us.

With China holding out purse strings, they will tell us what we can do. Elections will be pointless.

National security is virtually gone. We have no money to send our army anywhere.

And for the idea that "green jobs" would be the way to our economic rebirth:

Evergreen Solar, based in Massachusetts, despite getting $40M in government grants to hire 800 workers, is closing down production and moving to China. Better business climate.

Perhaps, Obama will give more handouts to (big) businesses. More dependency is always the solution- NOT!
