Airport Lawsuit
A judge today ordered Chicago Aviation Commissioner Rosemarie Andolino to testify in a pre-trial deposition in connection with a lawsuit United and American airlines filed against the city over financing the expansion of O’Hare International Airport.
Cook County Circuit Judge Richard Billik denied a motion by the city’s attorneys saying that Andolino is too busy to testify and that other city aviation officials could fill in for her. A date for Andolino to give her deposition was not immediately set.
The airlines are seeking to stop Chicago from selling about $1 billion in bonds, without airline approval, to start building the final phase of new O’Hare runways, at a projected cost of $3.4 billion. The airlines contend the city's borrowing plan to finance construction will cost the carriers $7.7 billion in debt service.
We can see exactly why Shortshanks and his people don't want her testifying.

I'm still surprised that shortshanks wanted to move all those bodies from the cemetery adjacent to O'Hare.

Actually, the too busy to testify defense is well established in the law. It's mostly used against people who sue large institutions, then demand that all the top people in the organization give depositions. People sue the City all the time over routine sorts of things, then noisily demand Mayor Daley's depostion about something he personally knows nothing about. They think if they can be annoying enough, the City will just settle. And, believe it or not, the courts are on to that kind of stupid game.
The difference here: Rosie's testimony probably is relevant and useful in this case. They're not just harrassing the Dept. of Aviation.
And the judge understood that.
I have a buddy connected with the airlines. They want to get her under oath.

During the blizzard press conferences at OEMC, Andolino sounded like a gifted speaker, as compared to the number of the "deeze-dems-doze" guys taking turns at the microphone.

Just a split-second after the last snowbound car was dug out and hauled away, its wipers twisted into the air as a "checked this one" by emergency responders searching for life, Dick "Mouthful Of Spit" Durbin was on TV calling for the Corps of Engineers and other agencies to do a "through review of Lake Shore Drive and Lake Michigan."
Probably Lake Shore Drive will "need" to be rebuilt from one end to the other, and the lake dug out deeper, lined with concrete, painted blue like a swimming pool, and then refilled.
After that, we start pouring concrete for Chicago's own full-sized replica of the Pyramids of Giza.
Talk about cubic yards! A line of idling cement trucks stretching from here to the galaxy Andromeda, with every driver yelling to be let in next before the stuff starts to set up...

Looks like Walsh Construction will be gearing up for that Lake Michigan/LSD project that is sure to come.
