- Interested volunteers will help shovel out bus shelters and sidewalks in high traffic areas around the city.
The Mayor’s Office is asking that City Employees PLEASE volunteer some time over the weekend to help in this effort.
Interested volunteers can report to Soldier Field at 10:00 a.m. tomorrow, Saturday, February 5th and will be given directions and deployed with other volunteers to work from 10-4. If you can work part of that time, let us know.
Saturday, Feb 5th 10:00 a.m. – 4:00 p.m.
Soldier Field SOUTH Parking Lot (just south of 18th street)
Volunteers will be able to park their personal vehicles at no cost at Soldier Field for the day, and after the work is complete, return to Soldier Field for pick up. Equipment will be provided, please dress warmly and appropriately for the day.
We just can't wait to help an incompetent goof who hates our guts, takes food from our childrens' mouths, taxes us into near-poverty, destroys our pension, attempts to deny our retirees the right to carry arms, and probably kicks puppies in his spare time when he's not consorting with Satan.

I already volunteered on Wednesday with the rest of my neighbors clearing the snow off our block and shoveling out each and every car on that block.
We had the street cleared in time for the mailman to deliver my real estate tax bill on Thursday.
Uh no sorry I'll be at work all day Saturday after being at work for 32 straight hours Tuesday and Wednesday getting only compensatory time (no paid OT for us) for being away from my family for 2 whole days.
I don't feel particularly inclined to do any more than that. I think the city got enough free labor out of my ass for one week. Hell, for one YEAR. Guess Daley doesn't think so.

Seriously...our department is facing the 2nd year of 24 unpaid furloughs, no cola in years, mandatory 8.5 hr day, no cash overtime, we earn comp-time, but do not get paid for it if we leave the department or City...and we are non-unio so can be fired at any time. Just heard the tail end of a Rahm campaign commercial. He said something like ENSURING THAT CITY EMPLOYEES KNOW WHO PAYS THEIR SALLARIES AND WHO THEY WORK FOR. VOTE FOR CHICO - VOTE AGAINST RAHM.
THis is another assault on the people who work their asses off 24 / 7 for this City. Have the citizens already forgotten the blizzard and all the work that CPD, CFD and Streets just did to keep the City safe and functioning?
I already did my part, spent 2 days shoveling and snowblowing with many of my neighbors, no thanks to the city.
Most of our block is cleared to the curb and all the walks are open.
Of course, we also had to dig out the 2 wheel drive tahoe police car that got stuck early on.
I also spoke to one of the guys at the airport where they do have 4 wheel drive police vehicles, guess what, fleet screwed up and delayed the purchase the vehicles, so they got stuck driving old pool crown vics!!
Can't really respond to aircraft emergencies with a CV stuck in the snow.

you have awesome timing SCC, I just had a lengthy Facebook discussion about this yesterday, I drove through Garfield Ridge yesterday to visit family and the ole lady to a eye doc appt. drove up 51 from Cicero found an old lady stuck coming out of an alley and dug her car out, drove west to Harlem and noticed the streets and alleys were mostly clear of snow but I could see it was done by shovels and snowblowers not by city plows, a slightly liberal friend says that the poor areas were still buried, I said that the areas were people actually pay their taxes, water bills on time, any parking tickets that they might have, properly apply current city vehicle stickers to their cars should ALWAYS BE THE FIRST to be served by city services, he did not like that yet he was saying how happy he is that a salt spreader came down his street

I live in Mt Greenwood. A Rahm Emmanuel campaign worker just came to my house. I told him I wouldn't be voting for Rahm because of what he said about our pensions. The Rahm supporter said, "yeah, I know. I keep hearing that at everyone house I go to around here. Rahm shouldn't have said that about your pensions. Its only hurting him now." Last night I was speaking to a fellow PO. He was unaware what Rahm had said about our pensions. SCC please post again what 'Napoleon' said about our pensions. So city workers will be aware. I know he said when asked about our pensions, "city workers will get what they put into the pension." Meaning ONLY what we put into the pensions--9%. Not 50% like the contract states, if we do our 20 years and age 50. We need City Worker Awareness!
I watched a Police SUV get stuck in snow about 2 inches deep. The driver was 99 so he had to play the rock back and fourth game. I volunteered Myself and 1 other guy who was out hustling for a dollar, to help get the vehicle out. Two third watch PO's and a sgt from 019, all ON DUTY, appeared at the Belmont El with Rahm in a commercial.

I' d live to volunteer and help Daley out, but I read about it and laughed so hard I threw my back out.
Shit, that was today? I was totally going to do it. Guess I'm getting forgetful.
Mayor Daley forgets, or really never knew the nature of Police Officers.
We grew up looking out for neighbors and our neighborhoods. We took care of the senior citizens around us. We were Boy Scouts and Girl Scouts and acquired values from parochial schools.
So after a long 8.5 hour shift and hard commute we withdrawal to our neighborhoods; where we again look after our neighbors. This is truer today than ever since you have stripped these areas of police and other services.
If you want volunteers, have the aldermen go to the store front churches and shelters.
Stay safe, volunteer, yeah I volunteer right here I volunteer, up and down my block.
Illinois has over 535,000 illegal immigrants.
Guess they'll just have to give them this job that Chicagoans are unwilling to do.

I had a good chuckle when I read that email. But, after I gave it some thought, maybe someone who has the ability to get the information can make a list of disabled police officers and veterens who live in the city and when big snows happen we can get volunteers to help them and their families. I would be more than happy to volunteer some time for that.

Bless your heart. As a disabled PO, I can't tell you how much your kind thoughts mean. Fortunately, I have both a snow blower and a hardworking able bodied son. God bless you.

OT: I believe an investigation needs to be opened up in regard to the officer that is featured wearing the Police Department Uniform in Rahms lates commercial where he reminds us that we are public servants. The CPD patch on the left arm and hat are clearly visible.

And unlike those who say they wouldn't piss on Daley if he were on fire, I definitely would, after he burns for a while.
