- Mayor Daley on Thursday defended his lame-duck administration’s performance during the Lake Shore Drive fiasco, saying city crews did the best they could during the worst weather “crisis” he has ever seen.
“The Fire, the Police, Streets and Sanitation all did a tremendous job. ... These people worked hard out there. Accidents took place on Lake Shore Drive, backed up traffic. Immediately, they closed the Drive, ” Daley said.
Now go take another how many unpaid days off? How much in pension reductions? And how much did that first installment of the property taxes go up this month?

Had to laugh out loud; he's so desperate to push that airport deal through, he went on and on about trying to make them take a meeting on Super Bowl Sunday.
He was going to break his own rule, for the FIRST TIME EVER, and work on a Sunday, just to get this meeting done.
Hmmm. Didn't he break his rule last month, to do business with the Chinese president on Sunday? Senility setting in already, even before retiring?

daley was babbling more than usual at the midday press conference---- tommy byrne was even worse--- they both read off pre printed speeches and still messed up----
Daley doesn't really care what anyone thinks of the way things were handled during the blizzard, and it was apparent from his so-called 'interview.' We're fortunate that for all the blundering that went on, our main thoroughfares are clear 96 hrs. after the storm hit (and no, I'm not a supporter of the Shanxter). NYC fared much worse this winter.

The funniest thing was Daley giving a stage-whisper right into the microphone telling Robert Hoff (who speaks better than half of the idiots Daley surrounded himself with) what to say re. the firefighters' efforts during the storm. Daley - you are a piece of work!

He was using US to deflect attention away from THEM (Byrne and his incompetent handling of Snow Command).
The front line is always doing their job. Its all the political hacks getting all the "decision-making money" who are always fucking EVERYTHING up.
If there is ANYTHING that should be learned from this, it is that SOMEONE WHO KNOWS WHAT THEY ARE DOING MUST BE RUNNING THE SHOW.

For years and years, I used to return home from Saint Jude in a rage that this sanctimonious little prick (Daley) didn't attend. When he used to say that Sunday was day was set aside for his family, I used to dwell on that as I passed by the Gold Star families on the reviewing stand, realizing the fact that they will NEVER be able to enjoy a Sunday as a family EVER again. By the time I got home from the march and breakfast, I was truly pissed, going on and on in a tirade that my wife and children would politely sit by and listen, but I know that being from a police family, that they truly understood.
A few years ago, on a Monday following St. Jude, I was at work and again going on about this. The guy that I was talking to was not only a good friend and a very high ranking guy on the Department, but was privy to certain inner circles. He told me that the reason that Daley doesn't go to Saint Jude is that it takes place on a Sunday. You see, if he goes to our event, he also has to attend the Gay Pride Parade.
It's not the love of his family or the valued time of being with them, but rather the plain and simple fact that this lump of human mediocrity is homophobic.
We've always known that he was no fan of ours, but to spit in the faces of our police families that have lost loved ones is truly unforgivable. I am incensed that he will pander to specific groups for a vote, but will not pay homage to the individuals who actually lost their lives....all merely due to the fact that he doesn't want to ride on a float because it exceeds his comfort level.
The city fucked up big time and the reporters went way too easy on them. That arrogant asshole, Orozco, said he would make the same decision to leave the drive open knowing how it all played out and knowing that all those people got stuck. What a bunch of fuckwits.
Watching the news conference, I wondered if there was one department head that was capable of speaking better than a first grader. Idiots, all of them.

Hey FOP, PBPA, CFD Local 2, and other city unions, how about a combined public service announcement about how all of the very workers who have been told to take unpaid furlough days and were promised pensions that some are suggesting pulling are the ones who risked their lives, drove inadequate vehicles, drove snowmobiles with no formal training, worked hours much longer than were safe, etc... while forgoing their own home duties.

Your way off base on this. Daley is not homophobic and if rumours are true, there is a gay family member somewhere in the Daley clan. He personally hosts a reception for the gay community, has staffers and heads of Departments that are gay (besides Huberman) and was one of the big pushers behind the Human Rights Ordinance and recently helped to pass the Civil Unions Bill through the state legislature. Seriously, what's so wrong with him wanting one day with his family?

They have a dollar figure they need to get and adjust the levy accordingly. Eventually this would presumably lead to a tax revolt or simply to widespread vacant buildings.
Take comfort in knowing your taxes are paying to plow snow in Englewood; none of their taxes ever get to any of us.
And they have the nerve to ask employees to volunteer before they get the public aid leeches out there shovel in hand.
A requirement of a LINK card ought to be working in your community, sweat equity.
Yet Rahm has the gall to infer we aren't giving the city it's money's worth. How about those whom we support with our tax dollars? When do they get to volunteer for something other than going to get the next 40 ouncer?
