Um....Duh?

For years now, even before this humble blog existed, first responders have been pointing out how Shortshanks' obsession with median planters was interfering with public safety by removing the center lane of traffic emergency vehicles were able to drive down. All of the sudden, some candidates are noticing the problem, too:
  • Mayoral challengers Gery Chico and Miguel del Valle on Friday suggested periodic gaps in the median planters that beautified Lake Shore Drive to prevent a repeat of the Blizzard of 2011 fiasco.

If there had been a few well-positioned breaks along the way, emergency vehicles would have had quicker access to stranded motorists and traffic stalled behind accidents could have been diverted to the southbound lanes before being buried in snow, both candidates said.

As the title says, "Duh!" How many millions were spend on the Lake Shore Drive medians, and the ones up and down so many major thoroughfares? Not to worry though, someone else will be paid even more millions shortly to remove a bunch of them in short order.

This has been an example of how stupid the mayor is and how gutless those who knew better were in not standing up to that idiot's suggestion that those things go in.

They have done nothing but get his corrupt pals payed while screwing the citizens and creating a dangerous situation in the event of a disaster.

He closed Miegs Field for "terrorist" reasons, but put planters in the path emergency vehicles could use to save lives in the event of a severe situation.

Go fuck yourself, Daley. You can't leave soon enough.

Not to worry SCC.... we at Duff & Vanesco "Break Builders" (Incorporated in the state of New Jersey on 04 February 2011) will be happy to create "breaks" in the walls and flower boxes! We have already conferred with the Rahmster (Next Mayor) and he has agreed to our low, low price (read; no need for competitive bidding) of 4.5 million per job! We are hiring laborers. Only 11th and 19th ward registered Democratic voters need apply!

and if there had been a few more well-positioned breaks in those ornamental planters, someone may have noticed a short, fat, snickering psychopath stealing an airport on the lakefront a few years back.

BTW, when he's gone do we get all our stuff back? Kind of like when you get divorced and your ex leaves and takes your creepy thirty-something-still-living-at-home step-kids with him and you get all your closet space and remote control back.

Its bad enough you can't see oncoming traffic because DillyDaley's flower monstosity obstruct your view. But now add 2 feet of snow on top of that.

His wife should bury him in one of them.

Cicero ave by midway airport is another area where the flower pots will impede emergency vehicle access to a disaster.

Also I was amazed when I saw the flower pots on western ave, 83rd to 87th. Forest preserve on one side and a golf course on the other. Sure need flora and fauna there.

More coming. The plans to take down the western ave viaduct at Belmont right next to 19 include putting planters in the middle of Western all the way from the Kennedy to Addison, including some in front of 19 and Lane.

Don't forget when Shortshanks skimped on the salt because of the planters on LSD:

Peterson Ave between Ravenswood and Western was a parking lot, only 1.5 lanes available for traffic use because of piled snow.

About 630pm Friday night, a CFD ambulance took at least 10 minutes for what should have been a 30 second run. Why? Because of planters running down the middle of the street took out the lane they (and the cops)used to use.

People wanted to move over, but they couldn't.

Now they are fucking up Lincoln Avenue the same way from Catalpa all the way up to Devon (that's the grand plan) Try driving down Lincoln S/B, when you get to Catalpa, it bottlenecks badly, especially if one of the Koreans from the Korean Pool Hall decides to park in the legal spot that they didn't decide to take out when they narrowed the road.

Those flowerboxes and raised medians are dangerous and a waste of money.

Pour the concrete, tear up the concrete, pour the concrete, tear up the concrete...

Do I see a pattern here?

I've been around long enough to have seen the business-killing "State Street Mall" put in, and then to see it torn out again. I think it lasted about twenty years.

"Build the city up, tear the city down, let us have a city!"

Daley's gonna fill in all of his dangerous grooves in the alleys and tear out all the speed bumps and islands and cut down the hundreds of miles of useless steel fences before he leaves.

The Median Planters have always been a pet peeve of mine. Ashland Ave. LaSalle St. Madison St. etc.
They restrict the flow of traffic. They keep emergency responders from using that middle lane.
They make riding a bike even more dangerous.
They are very expensive to maintain. They serve no purpose for a city on the move.
This is one of the things the mayor should have focus on in his early years.
Making the transportation in this city better.
A cross town expressway.A high speed rail system, connecting Milwaukee, Chicago, and Gary.
Some of the things are so obvious a blind man could have done better.
Do You know there is no CTA Blue Line Station Between Jefferson Pk. and Harlem Ave.? There should be one at Nagle. There is so many obvious thing he could have done, when the economy was good.
I have written to the news media, many times about the flower pots. They refuse to address it.

I have watch the Mayor while he inspects, or visits, different locations. Schools, Factories, Streets and Sanitation Facility etc. While the person in charge is tripping over himself,or herself, trying to impress the Mayor with the Facility, the Mayor appears totally bored, with the whole situation.
He is way too important, and knows way too much, to be impressed with anything.
He Did It His Way, and got away with it.

Didn't Daley's office as much as say, "F--- the people of Chicago. They shouldn't have driven on the not closed Lake Shore Drive anyway."

How many citizens got killed on Randolph between Halsted and Ashland when they put those high flower boxes along each side?

And the City got sued. they were all changed I believe. Many millions were squandered. Do you know how many exempt bosses shanks could have hired?

Have You Ever Seen A CFD or CPD Vehicle Drive To The Left Of The Median Flower Pots, In Order To Respond To An Emergency Call ?
They Are Forced To, Because The Vehicles On The Right Side Of The Median Flower Pots, Have No Room To Pull Over, and Let Them Pass.
If They Get Into A Accident, Will They Be Able To Justify Their Actions ?
I Don't Think So .............

"Err. Ah. Uh hum. Yes. And, and can you tell me, ah, what happens to the, ah, steel once it has left the rollers?"

(Paraphrasis of Monty Python, a nurse pushing a senile, white-haired "official" in a wheelchair through an "inspection" of a flower garden -- something along those lines.)

MAYOR DALEY IS CLINICALLY INSANE.
