- State Sen. Rickey Hendon, a flamboyant former West Side alderman known for his nickname "Hollywood" and his controversial mouth, abruptly quit Thursday.
[...] The surprise announcement by the veteran lawmaker comes months after revelations that a federal grand jury issued subpoenas for records on dozens of state grants, some of which he sponsored. On Thursday, Hendon repeatedly said he was hanging up as a reporter tried to ask whether his decision to resign was related to the federal subpoenas.
The subpoenas sought state agency records about dealings with more than 50 individuals and nearly 40 entities, according to copies of the August subpoenas served state agencies and obtained by the Tribune. Included are groups that won grants for after-school programs, job training and health programs, including several that were part of a 2008 Tribune investigation into Hendon's sponsorship of after-school grants.
Will he be the latest in a long line of "public servants" headed to the federal pokey? Got to keep up that 50% conviction rate somehow.

This shit is non stop in this city and state. This is one of the reasons why the pensions (in Illinois anyway) are now under attack. They (the pols and their pals in the media) spin it as if we are the ones stealing from the tax payers while they stole it for shit like this! I understand the no working because the gov't takes care of me shit bags voting for these assholes but anybody else, inexcusable! If I should have to travel out of state in my veh. I think I'll take a chance at getting in trouble for putting fake plates on my veh. because the embarrassment factor of being an Illinois resident is through the roof and emotionally and psychologically crippling. What other Department members will this trial touch? It will be an interesting few months.
Since Rickey was also a full time cook county employee and administrator and often was seen during the day at public and private events dealing with political issues, a questions beg itself. How about an audit of his time and attendance on his county job and cross reference that with his public appearances, let alone his time in Springfield. I would be willing to bet that he is the granddaddy of double dipping. But of course, he is a democrat and so is the new county board president.
They'll quickly change his reputation in prison from "Hollywood" to wood in his holey.

The state prosecutes everything else, AFTER Felony Revue throws out 110% of the rest of the cases.

Rickey is trying to get some of the money from the 3 pension funds that he put into from having 3 government jobs over the years. He served for 18 years in the state senate. Before running for the state senate, Hendon was alderthief of the 27th ward. Prior to that, he was Secretary and Treasurer for the Cook County Forest Preserve.

Regarding the recent Civil suit of the 79 year old ex-con preacher (Walden v City of Chicago). The City and the deceased Officers involved were represented by the the law firm of Andrew Hale and Associates. The defense presented by Andy Hale and Avi Kamionski resulted in the Federal Jury finding in the City's favor, denying Walden's claim that he was tortured by Chicago Police Officers investigating a Rape 60 years ago.
Additionally this firm represented 2 P.O.s and 4 Detectives in an unlawful incarceration case from 1982 (Jerry Miller v Chicago). The subject had served 26 years in the Penitentiary and upon his release DNA evidence cleared him of the crime. His conviction was the result of false eyewitness identification and Hale and Kamionski proved this in their motion for Summary Judgement before Judge Suzanne Conlon. Judge Conlon found for the Officers and the case against the Officers was dismissed.

I second what the retire Detective said about Andrew Hale and Associates. They are a policemans best friend. They are like pitbulls and will not back down. They have a huge sucess rate when defending us from these BS lawsuits. The days of the CC's office just settling out of court are over. I wish they represented those guys from 025 gangs a few years ago from that BS lawsuit. That too would have been a winner.
Does the Chicago City Council have their own prison wing?
