007 Shooting
Offender dead. Cops OK:
A man was fatally shot in the face this morning on the city's South Side after police said he pointed a weapon in their direction.
About 12:26 a.m., Mobile Strike Force officers tried to make a traffic stop on the 6900 block of South Halsted Street, police said. Soon after, a man, described as in his 30s, jumped out of the vehicle and fled on foot.
Preliminary reports said the officers gave chase and the man turned and pointed a weapon in their direction, police said. An officer fired his gun, fatally shooting the man.
There was no information available about the suspect's age from Police News Affairs. Police said two weapons were recovered at the scene.

If the ultimate penalty for a crime is not death, what are the police doing by killing the criminal?

good work officers. Not to get to political and off topic but can anyone answer this question about the abolosment of the death penalty. Does this mean that the killers of p.o. valadez and p.o. flisk and other police officers ot eligible anymore for the death penalty? Im not a police officer so im really not too familiar the laws and the death penalty. I thought that when ryan had the moratorium on the death penalty, people who knowing killed police officers were still eligible to be put to death... Is this still the case? I know that it was banned but does that mean it was banned for all crimes or are there still certain crimes like when the moratorium was in place. If they are not eligible for death I think that is garbage and I pray for the families that they somehow can overcome this blow and somehow get some closure... clearly gov quinn wont give it to them anymore... thanks for any answers guys and be safe!

Don't know the copper involved in the shooting but I heard him over the air when the incident was going on. The copper sounded rock solid on the air. He made me very proud of his handling of the event as a fellow cop.
