US Marshal Killed

  • Deputy U.S. Marshal John Perry died at 7 p.m. at Saint Louis University Hospital, from gunshot wounds received Tuesday morning, while serving an arrest warrant. Perry, 48, had been with the U.S. Marshals for almost 10 years.

Perry and his partner, Deputy U.S. Marshal Theodore Abegg and along with task force officers from the St. Louis Police Department were attempting to apprehend Carlos Boles, who was wanted for 2nd Degree Assault on a Law Enforcement Officer, 3 counts of Possession of a Controlled Substance and Resisting Arrest.

Carlos Boles opened fire on the deputies. Perry was struck in the head, Abegg suffered a wound to the ankle and a St. Louis Police Officer was grazed in the face. Both Abegg and the St. Louis Police Officer are recovering from their wounds. Abegg is in fair condition at St. Louis University Hospital and the officer is at Barnes Hospital.

In a statement released by the Marshals Service, the suspect Carlos Boles was killed when officers returned fire.

RIP Marshall.

Far too many good men and women taken too soon. This is already shaping up to be a horrible year for law enforcement.

Our prayers are with the officer's family and his brothers and sisters.

Too sad for words. And for what?
