Quinn Delays Decision

  • State Sen. Kwame Raoul is stopping short of saying that President Obama tipped his hand, or lobbied Gov. Pat Quinn, on Illinois’ bill that would abolish the death penalty.

Quinn has until March 18 decide whether to sign the bill. Without his signature, it automatically becomes law.

  • Quinn met Friday with Raoul and State Rep. Karen Yarbrough (D-Maywood), two of the chief legislative sponsors of the abolition bill. He had widely been expected to act on the bill Friday, but abruptly put off a decision until sometime next week.

Raoul indicated that Quinn remains extremely sensitive about the bill and the passionate advocates on both sides of the issue.

“The governor said he’s going to make a careful, thoughtful decision and he doesn’t want to make one that would seem offensive to anyone on either side of the debate,” he said.

We're betting the veto pen is put away in this case. Either Quinn signs it claiming some moral high ground or lets it become law without his signature in an effort to appear like he isn't soft on crime (which he actually is).

On a related note Gov Chris Christey of N.J. stated that as long Pat Quinn is Gov of Illinois, N.J. wont have to worry about losing jobs to Illinois. Face it folks we are the laughing stock of the nation in all areas of government. County President files for unemployment, Cities failed Olympic bid, and State that gives criminals more rights than law abiding citizens. The only peolple that want to come Illinois are Democrat politicians fleeing from other states so they dont have to face their constituents.

We are now a santuary state for the Democrat Party politicians

You could try Illinois Gunworks in Elmwood Park, they can do it for you. There aren't many cops, if any, in Chicago, that have an FFL. John Krupa of Spartan Tactical also has an FFL and he's still a cop.

I am very disappointed with Quinn. I voted for Brady but thought that if Quinn won, he wouldn't be THAT BAD even though he's a democrat. He always seemed to be above-board and approachable, not to mention possibly honest, that's a rare trait in this cess-pool called Illinois.

This guy is really a putz. He can't make a decision and when he does, it's the wrong one. He's raised our taxes much higher than he said he would and the damn coward is afraid to make a decision. He's just like Obama, won't make a decision and when he finally does, it's a fuckin' disaster for the us. Hey, Barry and Pat, wake the hell up. You can't vote present as the Executive Officer of the government. Your constant vacillating shows an inherent weakness in your character, not to mention everyone that counts knows you are spineless. A pair of nit-wits from Illinois.

While I have never been a huge death penalty supporter precisely because of the mistaken identity problem, abolition is a huge mistake.

If anything, the current age of DNA matching should make the application of the death penalty almost fool proof.

It is not a deterrant. The average inhabitant of a city like Chicago does not have the fear of consequences tommorow or the impulse control for that to work.

It is not for revenge.

The main reason for having a death penalty is to ensure that a murderous criminal doesn't kill again. That is a real concern because the same pols whop want to abolish death, will also release these monsters.

We all know Quinn is spineless and will let the bill go into law unsigned. His core constituancy are liberal POS and those who don't pay taxes.

I'm still waiting for Quinn to cut LINK and Welfare 2% so everyone can share in the pain.

Did he hire Americans? No. He went out and hired illegals to do the job. We want it both ways- we hate illegals but love low prices. In the end, it hurts our fellow countrymen. But who cares. It's the American way.

How is abortion not a moral issue? If you are going to get rid of capital punishment then how can you allow abortion, even 3rd term abortion or abolishing parental notification of abortion in the case of minors? So capital punishment is murder but abortion isnt? Gimme a break. Ted Kennedy, Pat Quinn, same difference. Both liberal a-holes.

The last couple of decades have had a whole series of people released from death row who did not belong there, or did not belong there for the crime(s) they were convicted of.

A fair percentage of those were wrongly convicted at least in part due to deliberate misconduct on the part of police and/or prosecuters who knew their case was weak (in a few cases nonexistent) but instead of just admitting that and letting it go, did some dubious things to get convictions.

I am not one bit surprised that the death penalty will be going away in Illinois. Very few people trust the safeguards that are supposedly in place anymore. Can't say I blame them much as the safeguards failed pretty miserably.

The problem with with smug, closed minded leftists is in this moral superiority and belief their version of life is automatically correct, as evidenced above.

It's not a religious issue. I am not religious, I have not been in a church in years. I also find dismembering a helpless fetus that is a viable human life morally repugnant.

When I fished with my Dad he would say, "you catch it, you clean it". Maybe an applicable mindset in this issue?

If you want to have sex without precaution, you should have at least some thought about murdering the innocent life your actions began.

A woman's right to choose. No right for the human life inside the womb, trusting and believing in its mothers unconditional love?

Religious issue? I am troubled by abortion because I was once a dim-bulb democrat, much like yourself. But how in good conscience can you call murder a religious issue? The Supreme Court decided life begins in the 3rd trimester, I guess. But we still have abortions until the baby has almost arrived.

Why is it murder, to kill an unborn child if you're any one OTHER than the "fetuses" mother or a Dr.? Explain that to me, if you can. And please don't start with that, it's the womans body and she has a right to choose nonsense. That little "lump of tissue" is a human being in every sense of the word EXCEPT if a Dr. or the mother say it's not. It is illegal for a woman to be a prostitute, but, but, it's her body! It's illegal for a woman to use illegal narcotics, but, but, it's her body!

Do you broad-minded, open-minded, deep thinking liberals ever stop and research just who advocated abortion in the first place? These people were very interested in limiting the number of children that "undesirable" races had. That's right, they wanted Parakeetas mother to have an abortion because they were racists. You liberal, brain-dead fools supported Mao, Lenin and Stalin, just how many millions did they kill? Damn fools don't ever get a clue.

There is a world of difference between "wrongfully convicted" and innocent. "Wrongfully convicted" is a euphemism for "missed a loophole". There is no record that anyone was released from death row because they were innocent.

Prosecutors misconduct? You believe a bunch of law enforcement officials that don't know each other got together to conspire to any number of felonies to jail an innocent man THEY don't know? You are a product of too much TV.

The standard for the ultimate penalty for the most heinous crime nowadays is BEYOND any doubt. The convicted should be executed in short order so that the DETERRENT effect is real.
