An Attack of Conscience?
The Daley administration’s 25-year plan to have shopping mall giant Westfield Concession Management quarterback and overhaul concessions at O’Hare Airport’s International Terminal hit a roadblock Tuesday.
Underlying the debate was what you might call parking-meter phobia. After the furor that followed the 75-year, $1.15 billion deal that privatized Chicago parking meters, aldermen are hesitant to approve long-term deals that could end up shortchanging Chicago taxpayers.
“We have to go out in the public and … either [get] heralded as being great economic wizards and making proper decisions, or get lambasted day after day after day like we have been regarding the parking meter deal. So, you might get an idea of why people are kind of gun-shy,” said Ald. Freddrenna Lyle (6th).
Although the city was not compelled to choose the most lucrative bid — and Westfield clearly didn’t offer it — Ald. George Cardenas (12th) said, “I want the city to get the highest compensation. Period. …The taxpayers were screaming in this past election about how we ought to do a better job of scrutinizing deals and get the best value to the city.”

Too little, too late.
The mayor shouldn't be able to float a deal that will extend beyond his term.
One more good reason for term limits.
How's this: don't do it! Period! Keep city assets with the city, asshats!
All of these contracts should be put on hold until the new administration takes over.
The Daley Crime Family has screwed us enough for a lifetime. Not that I'm expecting Rahm to be Mr Clean, but I'd rather have ALL city business from this point on being held up until the Stuttering Prick is gone.
Well Daley just signed a $2.5 million dollar solar operated dumpster/compactor deal for downtown too.
The dumpsters are suppose to hold up to five times the amount of trash and notify a location electronically when they are full and need to be picked up.
I think the initial order was for like 4,000 and more to come later
Hell we could of provided a solution much cheaper than that.
Just put a half-dozen rats inside the trash bins to eat the trash, that's all you do.
Then the dumpsters that we're using now could hold ten times as much trash maybe more depending on how many rats we put in there.
How much dose a rat cost anyway? Can't be that much and you could always get the free range ones in the city with a little work.
Hey, It's green energy so we can probably get some fed grant money for it so don't laugh.

Why is the 99 year lease deal now referred to as a 75 year deal? Is the media trying to cover for Shortshanks?
In 1991, the City Council approved the 100 year pact with Commonwealth Edison.

Awwww. Darn it. Not in Chicago.

Didn't Westfield pick up property for malls around town for $1.00? An international corporation, where's the contributions going, overseas?
Shanks gotta grab every cent he can for his Family & Friends before he leaves.
How about funding our Pensions you crook.
How much dose a rat cost anyway?

I don't know, but you could ask your alderman.
They didn't want to approve unless there was a guarantee that they would still receive a kickback after indictment.

A message will be flashed to the sleeping homeless in the pod room at 011.
"I think the initial order was for like 4,000 and more to come later..."
God help us.
...and you wonder why the Mayor's kid lives in Russia, as far as he can get from here and still get checks...
anybody know how they are connected to the daley crime machine?
"Best value" is important, seeing as how everything that wasn't nailed down over the past 22 years has disappeared." -- SCC
What's frightening me is what the Emanuel/Obama/Oprah/Spielberg "Bloomberg West" version of the Daley Crime Machine is going to try to extract. First, of course, comes Chicago delivered on a plate for Obama's re-election.
One Daley on the County Board, one as "the voice behind the throne" at the White House, and one walking the private beach in Michigan, far from all harm -- with telephone in hand.
Now they give a shit after 20 years?
