The City Hired Who?
One of them smuggled cocaine from Jamaica about a decade ago. Another was a carjacker. A third was convicted in the shooting of two Chicago cops in the 1970s, hitting one of them in the face.
They are among 139 people who got hired by the City of Chicago over the past two years despite having been convicted of crimes. That’s according to a list of all of the city’s hires of ex-cons in 2009 and 2010 obtained by the Chicago Sun-Times under the Illinois Freedom of Information Act.
Mayor Daley has said ex-offenders deserve a second chance and has made that his policy at City Hall.
“Of course I needed clout to get on,” acknowledged the ex-con, speaking only on the condition of anonymity.
He was first hired by the city in the 1990s and has been rehired every year since as a “seasonal” worker. He now drives a truck for the city Department of Aviation.
His political sponsor, according to the Sorich clout list, was former Ald. Isaac “Ike” Carothers (29th), now a convict himself, serving a 28-month term in federal prison after being convicted last year of corruption in a zoning case.
And how many decent people without criminal records got laid off over the past few years while these assholes kept jobs?

As for the cop being shot, those attacks are unbelievable and nothing can explain what makes people shoot a cop just for doing his job.
At the Irving Park Food Pantry (IPFP), if one seeks food and possible job assistance referral, one is highly encouraged to sign up for the Link Card (usually there) and is asked "Are you an ex-con?". If you say "I have no criminal record.", an IPFP person gives a sad look and says "I'm sorry, we can't help in that job request.". :(

I was reading an article in the Tribune over outrage that an applicant rejected by the University of Illinois was attempting to use clout to gain admission to the school. What? I moved here for this job and have only lived in this shitty state for ten years. Can anyone clarify something for me? When clout appears to rule all in every aspect of government in this shitty place, why the shock over an attempt to use clout to get into a school? It doesn't make sense to me. Maybe a native of this shithole can explain.

I was working the 2nd Watch In The Fillmore District at the time two Police Officers were shot. I was just coming in the station when the WC told me not to go to roll call. He said grab a shotgun and get in a car with some others. Go to 750 N. Kedzie. Police Officers were shot, and the offender is hiding in the building. Before we got there it was all over. The offenders were in custody. I never would have believed I would be reading, so many years later, that one was working for the city.
This is a tragedy.

Violent crime spikes after Camden halves police force
Two months after Camden, NJ, laid off 160 police officers, city prosecutors have released a sobering report showing a dramatic rise in violent crime in the drug-and-crime-ridden city of 80,000 residents.
Aggravated assaults with firearms jumped 259 percent in January and February compared to last year, and violent crime over all is up 19 percent, the Camden County Prosecutor's Office told the Philadelphia Inquirer. Murders and robberies, however, were down for the period.

Just at the airport the other night and who do I see riding on a segway playing the "ladies man", none other that Ikes old CPD driver boss! That same jagoff who beefed on my partner and me after he was caught by a neighbor,who called us sitting in his car in Beverly shall I say with her head in his lap! Oh well1 Somethings are best left unsaid and when you fuck over a copper doing their job you get what you get especially when your a police boss. I am giving back to society, and I value my job with the city. My supervisors tell me I am an excellent employee. The city has invested hundreds of thousands of dollars to educate me to do my job. I am truly grateful.”
He was 17 when an officer tried to question him and an older man after they were seen hanging around a gas station on the West Side in 1973. The officer got shot in the thigh in the ensuing confrontation, and a second officer was shot in the jaw. Both survived.
Court records and news accounts don’t say which of the suspects fired the shots.

023 used to be a good place to work, but now has become a god awefull place to work thanks to Capt. TL. It's hard to feel like and adult or professional working for him. He treats P.O.'s and Sgt.'s like children. 023 has absolutely no manpower down to 180 coppers. 6 years ago there were nearly 240 coppers. Very hard to get time off. People want out.

Rahm is taking suggestios on how to lower the cost of Chicago government.

The bar has been constantly lowered for decades now. The allmighty F-Tag used to be reserved for heinous crimes or the gravest offenses against universally held ethics. Now, they're assigned to all manner of technical, 'malum prohibitum' offenses or relatively trivial matters.
There are some misdemeanors that are far more morally outrageous than many felonies.
Obviously, shooting a cop is about at the apex of "bad felonies", but for a lot of other stuff, it's reasonable to allow people a second chance, particularly when it comes to employment. I'm not too big on third chances, though.

That was right at the tip of my tongue, as it were, couldn't quite put it together, "not enough sleep and too much trouble" these days.
Yeah, we construct this completely artificial, unworkable "multicultural society," loot the treasury, destroy the manufacturing base, and continue insanely flooding the place with uncontrolled immigration from the Third World -- and then we ignore the whole thing and turn on ourselves, shrieking "FELONY!" at every lawn-sprinkler theft.

...and the difference between them is merely one day's prospective imprisoment on paper. The difference between that 364 and 365 is a yawning abyss.
One "sanctuary" municipality is scrupulously sentencing its precious illegal aliens to 364 days when they do something bad -- so that they cannot be cruelly deported as "felons."

Decent men who lost their temper once in a lifetime -- under mortal provocation -- are stripped of their rights and made into shadows who are assumed to live upon air, while the R.J. Vaneckos and Pat "Batters" Daleys strut around the Gold Coast laughing, their pockets filled with a wad of stolen money wrapped around the business card of a top law firm.
The petty-ass criminal wheel never stops turning while this goes on, either. Decerebrate, 200-pound five-year-olds on their 175th arrest are shouting and laughing in the holding cells after running out of a store with their 58th radio and getting away with it. I think that this misdemeanor/felony business has outlived any usefulness it may have had, and should be done away with and replaced by a system that acts upon overall merit of one's life -- good done vs. harm perpetrated, a sort of bus transfer that bloody well EXPIRES once it's all punched.
175 arrests and 58 radios missing = equivalent time and trouble to society of one murder = death penalty to stop the cycle.
Housing subsidies and food and heating assistance and medical care are appropriate for some people -- shooting or burning or public breaking on the wheel would certainly seem appropriate for others. It all depends on the sort of behavior you want to encourage or discourage -- on whom you want to build and maintain a society, a nation for.
To paraphrase the conclusions of the author of a book called "The Private Future," "When the barbarians come we will be...listening to ourselves."
It is dysfunctional and simply cowardly to avoid this crucial decision by allowing a failed social experiment to continue thundering down the street -- thousands of people howling and urinating and shattering bottles and smearing up every wall they can reach -- while one solemnly contemplates one's navel and decides to make affixing a postage stamp upside-down a "felony."

An 84-count indictment accuses the 11 of being what authorities describe as a gun-trafficking ring. The ring bought guns "favored by the Mexican cartels," such as American tactical 9 mm pistols and the so-called "AK-47 pistols," which are weapons resembling AK-47 rifles but with shorter barrels and without rear stocks, U.S. Attorney Kenneth J. Gonzales of New Mexico told CNN."
