SCC in Springfield

And in the Illinois legislative record it seems:
  • Hey, Buddy! I'm here in springfield and was at that committee hearing for HB 148 for bringing concealed carry to Illinois and I thought you might want to know a couple things:

First, the city brought the same tired old group: the mayor's aide, [...], a tired old doctor, a bishop and the CPD supe. Imagine, their surprise when the people who were for concealed carry brought in the reps from the Chicago police sergeant's organization AND the Chicago police chiefs association AND the Illinois sheriff's organization and some more guys like that. I hear that the mayor's office called the chief's org after the vote and threatened to withdraw from the assn because the chief spoke on their side!

Anyway, the kicker you might like is that the last word in the committee hearing went to that same woman you showed on scc during the fop march, Colleen Lawson. First all the people for cc spoke their parts, then all the people against cc testified, THEN Ms. Lawson gave her testimony, and she refuted line by line everything that the people against it had said. So when she gets to the part where the Chicago Supt. had said that the cops don't want armed citizens and it would create problems doing our jobs, she goes:

" the BEAT cops in Chicago DO want concealed carry. I've never met a single beat cop anywhere who was against it. If you want to see for yourself, all you have to do is go online and read second city cop or go to any police forum in the country and you'll see what the cops really feel."
We're fortunate to count Ms. Colleen Lawson among our supporters and we appreciate everything she has done for Illinois gun owners. And the support from the law enforcement agencies for the rights of Illinois' law abiding citizens is welcome. Today was Illinois Gun Owners Lobby Day in Springfield, and while the turnout was supposed to be the largest in memory, we can't seem to find much mention at all in the local rags and TV stations.

The answer to that is simple; Springfield and Chicago aren't in the same U.S. state. All the rest of Illinois belongs to one mindset and Chicago belongs in the twilight zone.

Time for my hat and boots! Time for the police, Sgt, and Lt, to be micromanaged. It is time for 3rd watch in 023 to start. I will tell you how to think, when to think and where to think. If you think I don't know this job, just watch me at roll call. I will judge every police shooting across the country and tell you how the "police" fucked up! I know it all. I worked the wagon in the 9th district before beging a long time cop at 35th street. I have watched many videos" I know how to be the police"!!! Watch me hide in my office, calling the desk Sgt into my office anytime anyone gets loud at the desk.

FOID registrations are up.

--clip---

[...]

Firearms Services Bureau carries out FOID law

The Firearms Services Bureau of the Illinois State Police looks like a normal office, with tall beige dividers, motivational posters and personal knick-knacks, like plush monkeys, adorning the cubicles.

Lt. John Coffman, the bureau chief, said he doesn’t know whether Attorney General Lisa Madigan’s recent ruling that the names of Illinois Firearms Owners Identification cards are public information would increase the office’s workload. The bureau already suffers from a staff shortage, he said.

The quiet office of 26 employees handles hundreds of thousands of FOID card applications yearly. It also performs background checks and feeds FBI databases.

Coffman wouldn’t comment otherwise on Madigan’s decision, except to say a list of FOID card owners wouldn’t necessarily equate to a list of gun owners, because Illinois doesn’t register guns themselves.

“Recently, we’ve been processing about 25,000 applications a month,” Coffman said. “The last three years have been the three busiest years in the 43 to 44 years history of the bureau.”

The heaviest year on record was 2009, when the office handled more than 326,000 applications. Coffman said 230,000 a year is more typical. He attributes the surge to a recent law extending the validity of the card from five to 10 years, as well as national political debate over gun control and the 2010 U.S. Supreme Court case that overturned Chicago’s handgun ban.

Most of the applications in any given year are renewals, Coffman said. The busiest period is between August and February, when people are renewing their cards for hunting season.

In that busy year of 2009, only 10,222 of the 320,000 applications were denied and 5,952 revoked.

25,000 applications per month would be what?? 300,000 close to an all time high and we've just entered the peak period so who knows

Even if they do pass conceal carry, they will make it next to impossible for anyone to qualify for a permit and those who do will probably have their pictures and home addresses published in the paper. They will make a mockery of the entire thing and make anyone who is foolish enough to apply regret it for the rest of their lives.

The toothless, panty-less media whores were told to toe the hysterical, idiotically babbling, credulity straining altered reality party line of Daley Inc. that an inanimate TOOL in and of itself is the blame for the bloodshed on the streets.

This is a sop for the loyal democratic voting constituency.

Demonize an object instead of correctly addressing the bahavior and lack of impulse control of the people who MISUSE said object.

This is the height of moral cowardice and the politics of roll over and surrender.

They deny the hard working man and woman of sense and sensibility the means to protect themselves.

We had a good laugh at the childish back door play by the city...

CCW will pass in Illinois in spite of every legislative sleight of hand by the Chicago, Crook County dummy-crats and their bend-over buddies in Springpatch.

Shorty will scream and fling shit against the walls just like he did on the flight home from losing the Olympic bid.

This will surely give that rotten little carny a stroke, a shit hemorrhage and a grabber at the same time

Shanks is going out in style, his own style, in total and complete failure and disgrace.

After bringing Chicago to the very brink of the abyss of total financial collapse he is being shown up for the lying idiot he is.

The airlines won't talk to him, his choice for police supt. was so bad he had to reach back two administrations for a 67 year old retired guy to try and right the ship and all of his arguments against private ownership of guns have been shown to be false and erroneous through Supreme Court decisions and individual testimony.

Only massive federal indictments of Richard M Daley can put any icing on this cake.

Good riddance asshole.

That is what we police think of you.

Face it...the public at large no longer needs an established media. Look at what Facebook did to Mubarek! Print and television have no relevant future unless they commit to the unbiased truth. And they won't because the people who own the media outlets pay their employees to report the news from a particular standpoint or not disclose it at all.

The truth is on the internet now. And it belongs to the people.

I know how you feel. Part of me wants concealed & carry. On the other hand, I don't feel confident enough that it will go over as well as I hope it will. A friend of mine told me that these assholes would think twice about commiting a crime against someone. She said she would shoot em dead which would be a deter those thinking of doing something stupid. And with this dingbat getting rid of the death penalty, these assholes really won't give a shit about commiting crimes against innocent people. Fuck it...bring on the conceal & carry. The police can't do it all by themselves.

aw jeeze......see? and there you go again.....that's a liberal talking point.

wack jobs are out there, and guns are out there.....

If you want to affect change, then support legislation that deals with idenifying wack jobs.

but don't prevent me from my right to self-defense by throwing me in the same category as the wackjobs you are afraid of....

and let's be clear. HB148 will provide a means for LAW-ABIDING citizens to follow legal steps for obtaining the proper certification or allowances for carrying a firearm.

wackjobs and other base creatures are not interested, nor do they follow procedure or protocol.

a favorite talking point among libtards is the old and busted "wild west" senario.

The proof is in the objective crime statistics gathered....it simply has not happened....IN 48 STATES!

quite the opposite. more guns=less crime.

its not a catch phrase, its the TRUTH

That is EXACTLY what was said post-McDonald. It didn't stop folks like Otis McDonald's co-plantiff, Colleen Lawson, myself or anyone else who has applied for, and recieved their CFP.

Even though, the FOID and CFP are both unconstitutional, and should be abolished, the exisitence of these programs should not stop us from pushing a path forward.

I firmly believe in CCW & the right to self protection.
Most unfortunately the bill will fail in Illinois due to an area called Cook County, more specifically , Chicago & some neighborhoods within.
To illustrate : Question ; why did you use deadly force? Good job holding, taxpaying, honest citizen answers, " I was in fear of imminent death " or " grievous bodily harm "
Hood rat answers, " he called out my name, he don’t know me "..." she called me a bitch "... he disrespected me "..." he took the last bag of flamin hots ". That's why it will fail.
If, by some miracle it does pass, the exam should mirror the one Illinois requires for Police to be certified .

Lest anyone should forget, the original move to ban guns in Chicago came through none other than an acknowledged made member of the Chicago mob, Ald Fred Roti.

The benefit to the mob of citizens being unable to carry weapons to protect themselves is fairly obvious. Why do you think the Stuttering Prick is soooo adamant to keep the ban in place? All the easier to keep the sheep prepared for the slaughter by the Daley Crime Family.

Please watch this short video.

The woman giving testimony is not Colleen Lawson in Illinois She a Chiropractor who won election to the Texas legisslature and introduced and passed the Concealed Carry Handgun Law.

Good Luck and God Bless to both Ladies.

Here's a video that I guarantee you won't forget anytime soon! She didn't cry, although she came close to losing it, and she gave those a reality check they dearly needed. Texas girl, Judy Dorsett Tyler, had the encroachment on her second amendment rights so graphically illustrated. The honorable senator from New York , Chuck Schumer, was getting a little uncomfortable in his chair. The room was absolutely dead quiet throughout her testimony and the gun banners (meaning Senators who want to BAN citizens' ownership of all guns) absolutely speechless as this little Texas gal chews them up and spits them out She knows what the 2nd amendment is really all about. Watch it. You will be glad you did. And please pass it along.

I would hope that Illinois does it. I moved out of Chicago a few years ago, still work in law enforcement but I have been told by the department heads, that I can't carry in a state that doesn't honor our concealed carry permits. I'm a supervisor for a small town sheriffs office prison/jail (yes, a contracted state facility and county jail) and a sworn part time deputy sherrif. They say I cannot carry because I don't qualify for LEOSA, even though I make the mark on all the requirements of the Act. All I want to be able to do is protect myself and my family when visiting home.

For the love of god, Illinois, do it!

To the people who are worried about concealed carry, it's no longer an 'open question'.

48 other states have it, many of them have had it for quite some time and the results are in.

Your 'fears' are unfounded. The people who get carry permits are not the ones you have to worry about. To be sure, there's always that lone, isolated example of someone doing something stupid and the anti gun rights crows will always trot that out to characterize the entire issue, but rational people everywhere can reference the entirety of the United States, sans Illinois and Wisconsin, to see the outcome of this 'question'.

Don't worry. Armed good guys is a good thing.

That's why Illinois made UUW a felony. Normal, law-abiding citizens began carrying guns because it was a misdemeanor and they figured, "If a gang banger can carry a gun and get away with it, why shouldn't I be able to protect myself and my family?"

Making it a felony gave the normal, law-abiding citizens something to fear, because they have so much more to lose than the gang bangers.

It had nothing to do with stiffer punishment for gun-toting gang bangers.

Once again, it's government acting to control the people that they can actually control; the taxpayer. They know that they can't control the animals.

Trouble is, we eventually have to get out of our car. I may be forced to remove a jacket and sit down at a restaurant with my wife and a tell tale bulge for my subcompact may disclose I am carrying. I was trained many years ago on the use of force, and only every carried on the hip. I suppose an ankle holster, but don’t know how well that works with jeans. I don’t need the aggravation of getting pinched for UUW and risk my career, but I also don’t like the idea of not being prepared for the worst.

I don’t need the aggravation of getting pinched for UUW and risk my career, but I also don’t like the idea of not being prepared for the worst.

Kahr makes nice concealable semi-autos. That ankle holster is too far away, when you need it, you need it now, you don't want to be hopping up and down going for your ankle. I don't give a shit about a bulge. The animal who will do harm to you isn't worried about a bulge. Wear a loose pull over shirt but have that piece available.

Works well and is very comfortable. I'm a big guy (210) and have used it for years. Under a suit coat, no problem. Nowdays, having your shirt untucked is "fashionable" for a casual look. Sleeveless fleece vest from Eddie Bauer helps if you prefer a cleaner look.

Learn how to conceal a weapon properly. If you cant eliminate the bulge of a sub-compact firearm your carry method is amiss.Buy QUALITY holsters.
Try different clothes and match your clothes to carry system and climate.

For the love of god, Illinois, do it!

Join the NRA and become a citizen.Things like HR218 do not need to exist because the right to own and carry a weapon is good in all 50 States. Its called the Second Amendment to the Bill of Rights.

Concealed carry has always existed, but was taken away over the years by corrupt politicians and the liberal left.
Illinois does not need to "give" me CCW,but merely remove most of ILCS 720 5-24.1.

Hey old retired guy, the reason CPD retired pay 75/100 per year is because our asshole Mayor refused to let retired guys get qualified by CPD. Nationwide and statewide other departments retired coppers qualify and carry for nothing. Typical Illinois here the Mayor is anti gun so therefore our department is too and this is Illinois so somebody ,IROCC, has to make a buck. Hey maybe the new FOP President can do something about this???

but, he's got to read them to determine if they're foolish and redundant, and thus worthy of complaining about.

"Does that mean I won't have to pay $100/75 every year to carry under IROCC?

Old retired guy"

Two different issues. Your IROCC gets you a few more privleges than a carry permit gets. But you won't have to qualify every year, only on renewal. once every 5 years.

"You are so not a "NRA guy".Obvious anti trying to justify there position.DLs are $30 and IDs are $20,why the excessive fee??How can you tax a right??"

Yea I am. I'm the guy writing the bill. the ISP have $45 in background check costs so the bill has to be revenue neutral. Most guys think $20 a year isn't bad.

While other state may be trying consitutional carry, it won't come here for a while.

You may now remove your foot from your mouth.

listen apply for FOID card , buy a .22 or 380 automatic and carry

that is some of the worst advice i've ever seen posted here.

not that you are advocating commiting civil disobedience and carrying illegally, that's actually not a bad idea....

it's the fact that you are suggesting a .22 as suitable carry ammo.

.40 or .45 people.

You probably never read or wrote for the pure enjoyment of it. If you are the police a major felony case report narrative would not have more than two lines.

Prose, poetry... who needs them?

Here's something for you.

The super-condensed version of...

MOBY DICK by Herman Melville

Ishmael tells how he joined the crew of the whaler Pequod where brooding Captain Ahab vows revenge on the White Whale who bit off his leg they find the whale that sinks the ship and only Ishmael survives clinging to the coffin of his friend Queequeg. The End.

Now you can claim to have read MOBY DICK. I hope you have enjoyed it.

---------------------

I am a member of the NRA, but I'm also sworn to make arrests and all the other things HR218 asks for, but I don't want to violate my department policy by carrying, or getting some copper to pinch me for UUW and ending my career because it says 'Reserve Deputy' on my ID card. My dept feels that I should just use my ccw permit and don't carry in Chicago. I'm covered in most any other state, but Chicago is all I care about. Just would be nice to be covered back home in Chicago.

Does everyone praising Hillard, rightfully, for his service as a marine know that the person they are blasting is also a marine? Mike Masters served 20 years in the USMC! Say what you will about his tenure with the CPD, but to call him a weasel and bitch is not right.

20 years!? Not bad considering he's 32 or 33 years old. He must of got his Harvard degree when he was 8.

I want to clarify a few things about this article. First, I was not brought in by any organization. I was asked my opinion and I expressed that I was willing to appear before the committee and give testimony. Most memebrs of our Association, and most police officers I have spoken to are in favor of Carry Concealed. Second, I am not a member of the IRA or the NRA. I appeared because I beieve, like many do, that Carry Concealed in Illinois is an Idea whose time has come. Please visit the web and look up the bill.
