Add One and Nine More

  • One person was killed and at least nine others were wounded Sunday and overnight in separate shootings on the city's South Side.
Most appear to be in the Deuce and Area 1 with some outlying incidents.

And the weekend totals are.....?

Who's got the Incident Log?

So in 002 the new commander went from sgt to commander in a month. His thing lately has been pulling the stats of all officers and having watch commanders talk to the troops about it. Hey boss, u want those parkers, movers, cta checks and contact cards, the result is this. Half the watch not patrolling because down on stupid stuff due to get numbers. As a result 002 going crazy with agg bats since this, including 7 on third watch Sunday. Were all 7 of these preventable. No. But have 5 more cars patrolling instead of on cta, contact cards, tvbs and nonsense arrests then you won't have to answer about all these shootings. But u can tell them parkers r up.

Being retired military, I am interested in what our police have to deal with in our sh!tty city and have found an online scanner that allows me to listen to some of the radio transmissions from Chicago Police Zone 6 (7 and 8 Districts) Englewood District.
It boggles my mind that human beings can do this stuff to each other. I heard quite a few shots fired calls, one person who I believe was shot dead in his car and a myriad of other just plain effed up behavior. I am beginning to believe that these idiots have no value for human life, live for the moment with no thoughts about tomorrow.
When we went out on patrol in Afghanistan there were reasons we needed to shoot and kill, but this Zone 6(?) stuff is crazy. You guys deal with this everyday and I tip my hat to the good people of CPD who have to deal with this.
You guys see it all day and night and my question is why do these a-holes behave this way? Is it drugs? Is it macho? If any CPD officer cares to postulate their theory as to why this goes on I am curious and would love to hear any ideas regarding this.
Rahm and Daley should listen to what you have to say because you are the ones that have to deal with it everyday, so your insight is much keener than any B.S. Walter Jacobson or any other media dummy may have.
Be safe and bless the good folks who allow us to sleep comfortably. From my heart, thank you CPD.

Sup with the Deuce? Looked at the board Saturday and saw 6 cars down on midnights? Don't they have like 5 Tact teams over there?

Sounded like it was 1992 over there this weekend.

002 this weekend:
Saturday:
55/King - homicide
59/Calumet - 2 shot

Sunday:
51/Calumet - 2 shot
42/Wabash - 2 shot
400 E 46th - 1 shot
48/Forrestville - 1 shot

8 shot 1 dead

Did TRU or Mobile get deployed over there after the second shooting of the day? Don't think so. This is what I mean by allocating the resources in TRU and Mobile properly.

The Crystal Ball Unit is issuing a Severe Mayhem Watch ... for the next 48 hours.
4/09/2011 12:21:00 AM

*************************************

Thanks, SCC. I must fess up here and say that in making the above prediction a few days ago, we accidentally neglected to include in our diagnostics, the 'Cabin Fever Factor', that is only implemented once a year (on the first 80 + degree weekend of the spring). Had we included that figure, our alert for this weekend would have been for a 'SEVERE CARNAGE WARNING' instead of the less serious 'Severe Mayhem Watch'. Our apologies.

On the plus side, however, we nailed the craziness that occurred in 009. We didn't mention it here, though, as it would have seemed like we were bragging about it today!

Also, for those that voted for Sid Davis, Mike has removed him as Recording Secretary and put his own guy that lost the election in.

Why bother to have an election?

You are obviously someone that has had little participation in union affairs during your time on the job. Or little knowledge.

Sid Davis is NOT out as Recording Secretary. He still is the elected Recording Secretary.

What he no longer is is part of the full-time FOP staff.

The FOP President gets to designate to the city who is to be detailed to the FOP staff (Unit 541). It is the Prez's decision. It's called "to the victor go the spoils"

What this means is that Sid will still do recording secretary stuff, just he will do it on a part-time basis. And do it for the $700/mn stipend instead of D-8 (Captain's) pay. Plus each committee he chairs and meeting he attends, he gets additional $.

Mike Shields is entirely within his rights to put who he chooses in the office. He has political favors to re-pay.

Why the concern? So many people were unhappy with the old FOP regime that they voted them out. Now they complain about them being removed??

Mark Donahue gets a $70K/yr job as lobbyist by the nature of his being the Immediate Past President. He gets this until Mike Shields is unthroned, then it goes to Mike.

Much of what FOP does is done behind the scenes down in Springfield. Mark has over the years built up a considerable rapport so why let that die and go to waste? Now is the time we really need that

The problem with all this is that Mike Shields then appoints Jim McCarthy and Sal Del Rivero in those inside spots. BOTH of these guys lost their elections. If the president wants to change who holds the inside spots, fine, but it should go to someone who WON. place one of the trustees inside not someone who LOST.

Now I do not know how much work is involved with being the recodring secratary but I am sure the treasuary spot is a bit involved. That should be an inside spot.

Also, something needs to be changed in regards to the trustees. We now have now had 9 of the 17 trustees that are RETIRED. That is way to many retirees on the board

We can no longer afford to provide these personal drivers and praetorian guards for elite politicians.

Hell we can't even afford the politicians themselves. Which brings us to point number two.

All that talk of reducing the number of aldermen in the city by half was just a nice photo op' right? There is no intention to change a damn thing.

Downstate the Treasurer recently cut his motor vehicle pool in half. When is the city going to get cutting?

Time for these elected officials to start sharing the sacrifices instead of pushing it all on the teachers and the unions and the taxpayers.

We don't need 50 aldermen to run this city and we certainly don't need 24/7 security details with private drivers and taxpayer funded transportation to those that remain.

Put the manpower on the streets.

Don't know where exactly to post this but I'm IOD on crutches recovering from surgery. Sunday monring I yell (pretty much at a brick wall)out my window at the crazy little dogs yapping away in my yard (I live in an apt). 2 hours later I get a knock on my back door, my neighbor says can I talk to you. Oblivious to what is about to transpire I say sure. I hop my gimpy ass down the stairs and ask whats up? He starts screaming and heads butts me. Yes I said he head butts me. I fall on my ass cut on the bridge of my nose and minus a filling in one of my teeth. His sister is standing right there and immediately says "he didn't hit you". The offender takes off, now this occurred at about 1200 hrs. 009 shows up because it went out as a 10-1. CFD AMB1 cleans me up and says I won't need stitches. The offender is a city employee and never returned home that night nor did he go to work the next day. An A/1 Det calls me today and says that he talked to the offender and his sister and they say that he never hit me. Now hold on to your hats because this is where it gets unbelievable. The Det then says were not going to arrest him because they have a different story than me. WERE NOT GOING TO ARREST HIM? Does anyone see anything wrong with this picture? We as policeofficers deal with this every day. When were called to a location and Johnnie says that Joey hit him then Joey goes to jail, end of story. The judge then decides it from there. Must be a new breed of police out there who don't know how to do their jobs. I've got over 20 years on this job and I can't get out soon enough. I feel sorry for the coppers who have a long time to go. Apparently we have no friends not even amongst our own. I'm still shocked at the way this was and is still being handled. Please ask as many questions as you want, I'm more than happy to answer any and all.

In response to this weekend's bloodbath on the streets, the Attorney General of the State of Illinois, Lisa Madigan, was just on TV taking up some new cudgel -- now it's "allergens in school lunches."

For that matter, there is also a new "Transsexual Inmate Screening Committee" at the County Jail.

Et cetera.

How many of the infinite number of possible micro-concerns are going to be solemnly addressed at vast expense by the highest levels of government before the Republic -- having been turned into a kindergarten -- simply collapses of its own weight?

Just heard an all call message for units in the 20th district. Mentioned that gang graffiti was located on the 1500 block of edgewater that stated " killa 50 3rd watch ".... 20th district commander advised the officers to be aware that the gang that wrote the message was the latin kings. Just be safe out there because the thugs are on a manhunt.

The RETIREES VOTE.......We know the importance of voting.

4/11/2011 06:51:00 PM

Obviously the solution to dealing with a group of officers who actually cares enough about an election to vote and send back their postage pre-paid election materials is to change the by-laws to make retiree votes count for one half a vote.

The votes cast by active duty officers will be increased by a factor of two; each vote of an active member will be worth two votes.

This will blunt the effect of too many retired officers actually voting in an FOP election.

That should act as a disincentive to any group of officers who dare to think they can influence an FOP election by voting in greater numbers.

In addition I will propose to the Rules Committee that in the future each package of election materials be hand delivered to active members and then picked up in person with help for those unable to mark the ballot in pencil for any reason.

The new rules will also require that each retiree come down to FOP Hall in person to pick up a ballot package and be in possession of 5 valid forms of photo ID including a current US Passport.

That should get the vote totals up for the active officers to counter any actual votes cast by those with nothing else to do but collect a pension check and send in ballots.

It's like the sunrise, it will happen no matter what.

Heard a beat guy on days in 002 got a dude after a footchase carrying a FN 5.7x28mm pistol fully loaded. Good job getting that thing off the street. That weapon is made for defeating body armor.

FN only sells the armor piercing variety of 5.7x28 to LE and military. ATF clasifies the variety sold to civilians as not armor piercing. Its great that they took a gun off another piece of shit...but this fable, like the "cop killer bullets" of the early 90s is just more Brady Campaign propoganda.

Last week an outside unit comes into 9 and gets in a foot chase in and out of yards and finally, with the help of 9 get the guy. They come into 9 and find out there's a case on him for aggravated battery to two mass transit guys where he struck both of them and then ran off with one cuff on. They call the diks. Female dik tells them she called the officers and they didn't want to pursue it. The A/Os tell the WC this and he calls the mass transit guys himself and finds out the dik told them it wasn't worth pursuing. The WC (Cpt. J, a stand-up boss) calls the dik back and orders her in. She comes in with a male partner and they go in, in front of all the coppers involved and argue with the WC that it's not Aggravated Battery because the coppers weren't injured. The WC, unbelievably patient, explains to them why it is. They keep arguing. Finally, he reads them the riot act about how there job is to support the patrol division and then orders them to do there job. A few good diks in A/1, but a lot of them just plain lazy. And, of course, the diks downplayed the whole thing to the ASA and charges were rejected. Cpt. J had already left, so the new WC didn't go for an override. Just shameful.

Mark Donahue gets a $70K/yr job as lobbyist by the nature of his being the Immediate Past President. He gets this until Mike Shields is unthroned, then it goes to Mike.
*********************************
BS, No past president was EVER paid to be a lobbyist! Stop spinning it! The only thing the past president gets is a seat at the table during board meetings and a stipend like the other trustees.

This is a NEW position, and anyone telling you something different is full of it!!

And no Mike will NOT automatically get a PAID lobbyist position when he is OUT unless he makes a deal with the next FOP president. What a bunch of LIES.

I'm glad Mark will be working for the FOP, he's probably our only hope.

As far as Sid goes he was elected to that positition he should be up at the office.

Another question, why haven't all the changes been put up on the FOP website? $35,000 for a new car. New lobbyist's.......

Who's watching the pension board while our new FOP president is at the FOP, NOBODY?

Now another lobbyist will be hired (Mike Kasper) who defended Raulm in the residency trail and who currently is the pension board lobbiest.

So this Kasper guy is Raulm's attorney, your pension board lobbyist, and your new FOP lobbyist, anyone else see something wrong here???

Sounds like a lot of copper money going to one guy to screw us.

4/11/2011 05:05:00 PM

I sympathize with you, but I don't believe that it is usually appropriate to arrest on party simply because another person accused the first party of Battery. Some kind of corroboration is necessary. That seems to be the case here, because you suffered what sounds like visible injuries. It is possible that in some way you were made tobe the agressor when the dick interviewed the other guy. You can obtain the original case report as well as the supplemental report written by the dick. That should shed some light on the case. If it looks rotten, perhaps a call to a supervisor at the area would be appropriate. After 20 years, you should be aware of the warrant process. That is obviously available to you, but requires a trip to court. Good luck.

Thank you. I was afraid of that.

It was meant to be humorous, not someone's real opinion but satirical.

Save the hate mail for the new mayor.

To all retirees: your vote will count as always, take a blood pressure med. The only actual idea I had about voting in FOP elections, which was quickly shot down, was that voting among active members be made mandatory.

But therein lies the problem in living in a participatory democracy (or being a member of the FOP) in that a significant number of members/citizens will always insist on their right NOT to participate.

I don't get it, the vote is our only chance to let our voice be heard and I will bet there are many FOP ballot packages right now sitting still unopened in police officers' kitchens, car trunks and lockers.

I'd be interested in knowing how many ballots were returned after the deadline.

#############################

Again, the FOP President has pretty much total say as to who gets to be in the office.

As for 9 of the 17 trustees being retirees: IF you ever went to a union meeting and were active, you would know that coppers with less than 15 years on the job are very rare at FOP meetings. If you bemoan so many "old timers" on the executive board, then get your younger friends involved.

Also, retirees are not beholding to the department. No angling to get in that special unit.

Sorry kid, but as a 30 year vet in area one, you knew what was going to happen when you left your apartment to go and "talk" with your neighbor. I read the reports regarding your case and was present when you called the detective's supervising sgt and lt. Both agreed with the detective that the summons process should be used. You put a witness on the scene whose presence was verified by the offender. Bad move since the witness' statement did not concur with your statement. I spoke with the detective regarding what happened and despite wanting to see it your way, he was unable to because of the witness you put on the scene. If you are hell bent on getting even with your neighbor, then I suggest once you are off crutches that you both handle this like men. However that may be. But be sure to just keep it between you too and not to needlessly involve any more officers.
