It's so sad that this department is stuck on being stupid. Does it really matter what the hell we are wearing? we still have the same number of coppers on the street only now we will being doing much less. No more surveillance no more covert cars and fewer arrests. In the last few days we had a number of situations where we saw some things and would have gone on foot and done surveillance or got the covert car, but instead we just had to drive by knowing we had no chance being in uniform. At least now we know they don't care about numbers anymore.

I see nothing wrong with wearing the uniform while on-duty.

Every "house cat" in every unit should be required to wear the uniform every day with the only exemptions being those granted by a Deputy Superintendent in writing.

Also when a uniformed officer, including "house cats", exit a police facility for any reason during working hours they should not be allowed to wear any outer garment except an approved CPD uniform item.

This would bring a greater police presence to the streets and drive the "house cats" crazy!

And of course that uniform matrix is open for white shirt interpretation; doesn’t it say that a short sleeve shirt is only to be worn if the temp in the Watch Commander’s personal car reads at least 70 degrees?

I have a question.

A few years ago when TRU first started up, it was said that that if the police were involved in a shooting, TRU would be deployed there immediately. Has this ever happened or was it just a rumor? I’m not trying to pick on TRU just trying to see the purpose of the unit.

From my experience, and I could be wrong, the whole idea of saturating an area with blue shirts works, in certain areas.

Usually in lower middle class, white and Hispanic neighborhoods where the gang bangers are 12 to 18 years old and can still be intimidated/discouraged into leaving the area if you know the right way to harass them.

However, in total shit ghetto hoods, it seems that usually a high police presence just encourages the animal, giving them an audience to act restless, since they don't fear us.

What the dept. is going for works in theory, but you can't treat the whole city as the same beast. You've got to really examine each district problem spot separately and see what would work.

I dunno, maybe I'm wrong. Regardless, everyone be safe out there this summer.

Oh, my God! This is the answer we've been waiting for! Not more cops, but MORE UNIFORMS!

Maybe we can get a bunch of cardboard police cars and cardboard policemen and place them in large groups on various large vacant lots where they can only be viewed from a distance. That way we can trick the bad guys into thinking we have more cops than we do and that we are ready for action.

Hey, if it worked for the Allies in WWII, why not have here? The exempts seem to think that the citizens will fall for their uniform ploy, so why not go to one more ridiculous level?

“Not sure where this person works for but all personnel have been doing so since last Friday.”

Not ALL personnel. The Uniform smoke and mirrors only affects those who patrol the streets (Tact, Area Teams, GEU). The elitists in the BIS or at Homan Square remain exempt. But I wouldn’t expect anything less from the people to arrogant to not put on their dress blues for 1 hour at St. Jude’s. I suppose Detectives don’t want anyone to realize they are still Patrolmen, only a bump and a half up in paygrade from pushing a Beat Car. Those POs at Homan have absolutely no excuses at St Judes.

All that being said, the warm weather uniform mandate is ridiculous. Uniform or not, the shitheads know who we are. Most of them see you a mile away. It is the law abiding and usually ignorant-to-reality citizen who this effort becomes a false sense of security.

Enough of this BS already, open the vault and start hiring. This year is already lost, maybe we can start the process and by next Summer we have those 1000 Officers on the streets. I know, it’s a pipe dream.

The idea that you can only sneak up on a perpetrator is when you are in "tac" clothes is complete BS. In fact, often the "tac" outfit works against you.

This may come as a shock to the "hairgel police": the street punks can spot an unmarked police car a block away. When you turn out the lights and try to sneak down the alley, they know something is up. Like a zebra knows when it is being hunted.

A lot of times a plain marked beat car is far more effective as the punks think it is just a uniform do-nothing. You act like all you are interested in doing is writing parking tickets and you can walk right up to them and grab them.

You got to be a little bit sneaky...and smarter.

Oh brother, obviously a new guy. Spit and polish, that's rich.

What the hell is wrong with a hooker convention?

I have an honest, no bullshit question. If the city council budgeted for 13,500 police officers each year and we only have roughly say 11,000 or so at any given time; where does the money go that is set aside for all these officers?

The Sheriff's Police patrol Ford Hts. Are you taking a shot at us.

4/13/2011 09:31:00 PM
I'm not that poster, but I think the point was, there's no Ford Heights police department to go work for.

Not a shot at the people covering the now-defunct FHPD's responsibilities.
If anything, it's a shot at the sad state of Ford Heights.

I for one don't mind being back in uniform. nobody in plain clothes in a crown vic is fooling anybody out there. A good cop can make a decent pinch regardless of his/her attire. Plus, I will have a lot less laundry to do now since I'll be wearing my "crisp" uniform everyday. Stay safe out there.

It sort of takes the "tac" out of tactical, doesnt it. Hard to sneak up on dope boys and other shitheads when they can see the uniform and duty belt from a block away. Whats next? Blue lights stay on the whole tour ? Visibility bullshit only goes so far. You need people in soft clothes to really sneak up and grab shitheads.

I hope you're a troll or this was posted just to stir shit. Because if you really believe what you wrote, you got issues.

O.T. In regards to the 023 Dist retards: Everyone keeps saying they will get off because of their clout. Do 2 retards on mids in 023 really have clout? Or is it that whenever another cop fucks up we use the excuse that they are clout babies. Can anyone from 023 confirm this clout rumor?

4/13/2011 11:08:00 AM

Did you ever stop to think that maybe they wanted mids so they could do exactly what they were doing -- troll for vulnerable women too drunk to say no?

4/13/2011 04:37:00 PM

Yes I did stop to think that that's why they chose midnights. Again, my question is why is everyone saying they will get off because of their clout.I have over 20 years on the southside so I have never heard of these 2 now 3 retards yet everyone says they are clouted. Just want to know who their clout is???

Heres a classic:
The former girl wonder who started the Womans Tactical Association (KB) who was sent to Intelligence by J-Fed as one of his last moves, ends up in 023 on days. Well she is told that she has to go to 1st Watch due to manpower shortages (the dynamic duo) and goes crying to the District Commander (KathyB). Well the DC takes sympathy on (KB) and puts her on 3rd Watch instead of 1st Watch. Well (KB) takes the first 2 days of the period as personal days, then is RDO on Sat/Sun. Get ready here it comes, then on her first day to work 3rd Watch, (KB) hits the Medical and files a grievance, alleging that the Dept. has to show cause to dump her from Intelligence, and the ousted Trustee (KG) files the grievance for her. From the Office of the Supt. to the medical, now tell me whay this job is sooo F**ked up.. And (KG) wonders why he got ousted??? Oh yea if you need your flat tire changed just call former FOP Trustee (KG) he will come out during work and change it for you, but you gotta be blonde and a female....

^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^

Isn't it kind of dificult for a 30 year old white guy from Mt. Greenwood wearing jeans, black boots, a tactical vest and a backward ball cap to "sneak" around the ghetto? Do the mutts really think you ain't the poleece, or is is just the jeans make you feel "special"?

===================================
Just because they are mids don't mean they don't have clout. Maybe they wanted to be on mids so they could find more drunk young women.

But they I believe they will be fired. Even if it is just to set an example & play up to the media. The city needs to put their foot down to show that they are not playing. Then they will go thru the process to get their jobs back and the city can say they had rights thru the greivance process. Thats what the city did on the CFD. Remember the Engine 100 case, the 8 Lts in the FPB, and the dimwit female getting here nails done on city time. All got their jobs back. But at least the city was able to say they were fired to the media.

Not A Cop

And now we have added your honest, no bullshit question to the OTHER three hundred times we've already posted that question on these pages.

Every cop here has asked that question. But, until it occurs to the media to ask - and answer - that question, it will continue.

Sorry to disappointment you, however studies have been done, that show when Police Vehicles and Officers are in plain view it stops crimes. Police vehicles parked in front of or officers in uniform WILL stop a crime at any establishment.

4/13/2011 04:02:00 PM

Right. Choose your words more carefully.
It may 'deter' 'some' crime, but you're pitifully naive if you think a visible uniform 'will stop' all crime.

4/13/2011 10:18:00 PM

When we go to the home of the reluctant 60 year old witness to bring her to the Grand Jury to testify in a murder case against a 22 year old gang leader, we can turn our squad lights on so everyone will be sure to notice us. She should feel safe riding in the back of a cage car for all her neighbors to see. On the way, we can do a couple of traffic stops.

Good idea. You are undoubtedly going to be a boss someday.

Why do the computer repair people and in car camera people who are sworn officers allowed to wear civilian dress...How come they can't wear a uniform or the utility uniforms that the lock-up and canine people wear....if you want to put everyone in uniform start with them...and put them in marked cars so when they go from district to district they will appear to be the police...I mean wtf...it will give the appearence of having more officers on the street...this department just never makes any sense...punish the guys making all the arrest and put them in uniform but keep all the dogs in civilian dress..
