How many people were present when this went down?
How many people were present when this went down?
- Last night [in 025] a p.o. was seriously injured because a lazy Sgt. tossed beat tags while calling off the officers names. She was warned before about tossing beat tags at officers. What's wrong with handing it to them?
She tossed a beat tag at an officer and he was seriously injured. He had a very large laceration to his head (he required stitches) and he was complaining of lack of ability to see through his left eye.
Oh, the best part. She ordered another p.o. to do the report and classify it as an "accidental injury". How about telling the fucking truth!
I am sick of the fucking double standard in this department.
Well, the double standard has been around since the inception of the Department, so we can't say you weren't warned. But seriously, how many people saw this? They should be lined up with witness To-From reports for the IOD.
"Accidental Injury"?
How about an Accidental Rule 14 violation up the entire chain of command?

Agg Battery to PO?
get well and come back when your ready bob. thank god that sgt did'nt come to afternoons, looking at her in roll call would not start the day well.
Unless she threw it at him with the intent to injure him it was an accidental injury. So whats the rule 14 violation?
Off Topic:
Shortshanks wants a room in a library to commenerate his family. How about a Men's and Women's room?
Get all the witnesses you want.
There's a little thing called "intent". It's definition was sandwiched, I believe, somewhere between the probable cause and reasonable suspicion chapters in the Police Academy 101 textbook. Sarcasm off...
Unless the "lazy Sgt." (which sounds like a complete fucking asshole, by the way) wanted to purposely injure this officer, it IS an accidental injury and should be documented as such.
Flipping a beat tag (which is really stupid - they do have some weight to them and jagged edges/corners) to a copper during roll call is one thing. Whipping it with force and/or purposely aiming for any body part other than the hands is another. A reasonable person wouldn't commit such an unreasonable act. Unreasonable doesn't translate to intentional, however. Even if "warned before" about the same shit.
Document it properly...as an ACCIDENT. But don't let that preclude the discipline process from taking it's rightful course against the Stupidvisor. And if I were the copper injured by this asshole, you can bet my attorney would be exploring any and all means of restitution from the City and the sergeant personally...ESPECIALLY if there's the possibility of vision damage. Losing an eye is pretty much a career-ender in this field.
Best wishes for a thorough recovery for the injured officer.
im sure she didnt mean for him to get cut in the head... Im sure she didnt mean to hit the officer. I work nowhere near where this happened or know any details except that is given here but sounds accidental to me. Sounds like the author has a beef with the sgt in question and is trying to amplify it on this site.
there is NO LEADERSHIP ON CPD
I agree, this Sgt. must be punished !!!
O.T.....Any truth to the rumor about our favorite police impersonator getting caught with a gun in 007 couple days ago????
wow...........
If the officer had a set of balls he or she would have went over the Sgts head and made the report with the correct classification.
What is this sgt going to do for this officer that she hurt? If the officer has side jobs that help support his family, is the sgt going to give up a few hours of pay each day to compensate him? Sgts, glorified patrolmen, most of which dont know their asses from their elbows.
Learn how to catch
How many POs have the courage to speak out or stand up to a bad boss? Most of us do not have the courage to step forward and be a witness against a boss the their conduct against a fellow PO. I know from experience. Yet they will post on this blog about how something needs to be done. Grow a pair!
give me a break it was an accident. there s no artical 14 here. the copper cant catch thats not the sgt. fault.
Who would it be? Its really no brainer b/c there is only one female sgt. who could it be?
Rahm's Initiative # 12: Ensure that City Worker Safety is a Top Priority
Why do this? The City has the
responsibility to maintain a safe
workplace to reduce the risk of injuries and care for employees who are hurt carrying out their duties.

The NFL case comes to mind, where the ref threw a penalty flag AT a player and hit him in the eye causing permanent injury. The penalty flags had a weight of some kind tied or sewn in them so that they would not blow away when tossed in the air. I believe it ended the player's career.
What do you mean she was 'warned before'?
I'm starting to believe this dept. only promotes the galactically stupid.
How about 'reckless conduct'?
I hope you keep us posted on this one SCC.
Lets see if the "stripping frenzy" applies to white shirts also. Remember a lowly blue shirt just has to be in the area of some percieved misconduct and boom shakalaka stripped and sent to POW land. I lament the day I ever took this shit job. Nothing is legit unless a clout heavy hack says it is.
She ordered another p.o. to do the report and classify it as an "accidental injury".????
that reports first couple of words should read " in summary: ro being ordered by sgt. dumbass to report the following..." which of course wasn't witnessed as such by ro.
why not refuse that order....give me that spar!!!!
ill gladly write a to-from explaining how you're trying to make me lie on a police report!!!!
if that injured p.o. has any brains....sue the city!!! just another idiot with a white shirt put in a position where he/she doesn't belong.
Well that wont happen SCC and you know it. How many times have we needed our fellow p.o.'s to write witness statements and they put shit down like "I was there but was tying my shoe" "I was there but was looking in my fop book" . Everyone talks a good game but when it comes time to backing each other up its every man and women for themselves.
How many people were present when this went down?
about 36 people.
Off Topic..but I am filled w/ rage;
Barry Obama & his wife invited " rapper " COMMON to entertain at the White House.
His " rap " A song for Assata " glorifies the convicted cop killer, Assata Shakur who gunned down a New Jersey State Trooper in the 70's.
His other " lyrics " have to do w/ shooting Police Officers & burning President Bush.
Remember this when he shows up at any Police Memorial Week functions...that's IF he shows up.
SHAMEFUL & DISGRACEFUL!
Thanks Barry for the " change & hope "
This is not working smarter.... I am thoroughly disgusted.
You do not treat your troops this way you do all you can for them - not injure them!
Lt Pat Schmear
Damn.... That would a been my ticket out!
"...classify it as an "accidental injury". How about telling the fucking truth! "
I was not there and from what is described it is...
stupid...
ornery...
shows disrespect for people...
shows disrespect for department property...
worth a SPAR and reprimand...
don't get me started about involving lawyers...
BUT, for reporting purposes, a Hospitalization Case/Accidental Injury is the right thing to do...
Why make that part out for anything else.
OT...maybe somebody has figured out the Chicago way?
A huge difference in cost to clean up the water.
http://www.chicagotribune.com/news/local/ct-met-chicago-river-swimming-20110512,0,7855236.story
The district estimates it would cost up to $1 billion to disinfect wastewater from its treatment plants. The U.S. EPA commissioned its own study that concluded the cost would be considerably less — about $242 million, or about $2 a month per household spread out over two decades
'Sir Donkey' strikes again! Oh, and you bums don't ruin our discounts; eat in 025 once in a while.
The Sgt should be charged with Battery and I hope the PO sues the shit out of her.
Those beat tags have very dangerous sharp edges when new and are too heavy to fling at someone.
Hope the PO is ok and there is no permananent injury to his eye.
Whiteshirt bullshit again. I hope he sues her. A scar and vision loss should pay nicely. Of course, I expect she will probably be promoted soon.
Fuck it, get a lawyer and file a suit.
Sounds to me like this was an unsafe workplace and that this type of repetitive hostile behavior was tolerated, and seemingly, encouraged.
I would have NO problem if a fellow office in blue filed a suit in a case like this.
Do we know if the SGT is a merit hack? A "legit" score? Or a legit score?
OH J.D. She is the same person who takes the school fundraiser candy bars without paying for it. All around large piece of crap.
The entire roll call staff that was present for 1st watch at 2100 hours will have to write to-from's. Everyone saw it and just write down the truth. She tosses a beat tag and it struck the p.o. right on top of his head.
Lawsuit time, sue da sarge, get some cash..
Does the Sgt. Work the radio room? Why would a Sgt. Be tossing out beat tags , don't they get them with their radios and keys?
Not covering for the lazy ass, but if there was no malicious intent on her part, then it is an accident.
will she be stripped and sent to call back for improper use of department equipment--- people have been sent to call back for less--- make her pay his medical bills and lost wages and she won't be tossing beat tags at anyone again....
Sounds like a nice lawsuit!
Same lazy, nasty, backstabbing, belittling, moronic Sgt. that used to be in 012? If so she is the one that ordered the hispanics not to speak Spanish at the desk because she "knew" they were talking about her. Used to throw the mail away before the W/C saw it so she would not get assigned any work. A new Lt. came in took her off the desk and gave her a choice, find some where to go or it will be found for you. Amazingly Sodini backed it up and the girl returned to her former home of 1st watch in 025.
The beat tags are sharp instruments. Harry Holm, former commander of the helicopters, said beat tags were useful for removing frost from airplane wings before takeoff.
---------------------------
A CR should have been initiated by the watch commander. Expect some shit on this one.
You ain't throwing shit at me! That's call Battery
This sergeant sounds pretty stupid. That being said, making a report for flinging the tag and accidentally striking an officer would have resulted in nothing more than a slap on the wrist.
Now, ordering someone to generate a false report, will likely result in ten to thirty days. And, unfortunately, anyone who signed that report, including the generating officer and maybe even the injured officer, is going to bring down an easy five days, minimum. "I was just following orders" is no excuse when the order was illegal originally.
Sorry...Unless she was aiming to knock his head off, it was an Accident. No Intent...No Crime. Just lack of proper judgement. I would be like...ummm...I need you to wash my car, shine my shoes, get my Uniform from the Cleaners...Suck It Up and Roll With It!!!! Make that one work for you.
Why is a Sgt passing out beat tags anyway? That's what radio room personnel do. Or does this sgt do it just to get to throw them?!?
That sgt needs her punk ass fired! Hope the copper gets a cr and then goes and gets a great attorney sue sgt,sue the city for promoting and hiring this fucking pos idiot! These bosses so many are real clowns! no wonder we don't respect them!!
Not a cop--whats a beat tag exactly?
shoestring youre an idiot.....
She is one of the laziest people on this planet. she talks to all like they are beneath her. I have only been on the job a short time (less than 5 yrs) but have the misfortune of working under her. I try not to call her to any of my jobs because she usually escalates it. in the short I wish she would just go the hell away and not come to any of my jobs.
its a shame because when she shows up, she makes all around her look bad. disappear you ignorant human being, or at least straighten your useless ass out and take some pride in your job and yourself for that matter.
and please take that our useless commander with you , hes a waste of space too.
Unless the sgt planned on hitting the p.o. with the beat tag it is accidental. even if she "ordered" someone else to do the report as "accidental" that's exactly what it is. now it's a totally different story if she ordered the p.o. to lie as to how this accident happened when documenting it. THEN there'd be problems. As it reads here, the Sgt. did nothing wrong, except for being a complete asshole by throwing a heavy, sharp piece of plastic at officers after being asked not to in the past. Get a number on the sarge, and see where it goes...probably NOWHERE for the lack of INTENT on her part, and the lack of prior incidents being documented anywhere (this goes back to coppers being cowards when it's time to speak up for yourselves, i.e. horrid cars, piss-poor ventilation and toxins in buildings, and bums sleeping in lobbies, etc, etc).
BUT...DO sue the shit out of her and the City for hiring such a doofus.
Isn't it a Hospitalization Case Report/Accidental Injury? It certainly wouldn't be a GOCR/Aggravated Battery!
Incompetance is as Incompetance does.
A goof Sgt trying to act Macho just like she see's in the movies.
They have beat tags?
Accidental lnjury!!!!!!!!!Are you kidding?????? Let me guess............We are going to have a meritorious seargent soon, another one without balls and self-respect. As for an arrogant Sgt?....officers you are supervising are capable of picking up bt.tag from the radio room at the same time when they are issued radio, teaser and car keys .Works in my district.Hate to see next General Order with detailed instructions" how to catch BT.Designator thrown by a supervisor " and repercussions if PO targeted FAILS TO CATCH IT. 30 days pending separation? ??LOL.LOL.LOL.......20 years of vodeville and than you retire! This is in your memory Bill.RIP.
Flinging beat tags is a show of toughness..yeah ya know...gotta send a message to the churls and all that. Here catch..
It's always funny until someone gets hurt.
Wah, wah wah....it's an accident. Of course, if the officer can't work, he should be carried IOD.
That doesn't seem to be a problem, we've all seen
people carried IOD for worse.
I'm sure the Sarge, whoever she is, probably feels bad enough about what happened. Don't be as petty as you are by blasting her here over something that was clearly unintentional.
Someone in another post said she didn't even apologize? What kind of a creature is this? I'd sue her.
"Uh maam, I believe your pretty much... FUCKED"!! Thank you.
I would write the report as it happened! Before you get jammed up for lying, especially for this goof of a Sgt.!
If it were the other way around! I can bet a $1,000,000 bucks in Las Vegas, on a crap table that this Sgt. would jam you up in a heart beat!
Da Pelon

5/12/2011 01:40:00 AM
J-Fled was caught with a gun in 007?!! What the hell was he doing there with that?!!
If the sergeant directed someone to make a false report, she should be looking at thirty.
And, whoever wrote that report will probably see five, minimum.
I sure hope the injured officer didn't sign that iod.
Bob go to 5.
A scar on the face and loss of vision should prove a worthy lawsuit. Why would a PO lie on paper to cover whiteshirt bullcrap like that. I'd rather take 30 for telling her where to stick it.
OK, Let's try this again...
"...Oh, the best part. She ordered another p.o. to do the report and classify it as an "accidental injury". How about telling the fucking truth!..."

Its still an accident. I dont think she intended to fuck up that officer. No one complained when she was taking care of her officers everyday. That ended because people got stupid and pissed off the watch commander.

Fuck her. Battery.
Call me stupid, but isn't an accidental injury report the thing to do? Then the IOD report? What's the problem?
Who does she take care of??? She's a lazy pig that doesn't have the common decency to hand the beat tags to the officers! BTW, she was told before about whipping the beat tags at the officers, so hopefully she gets what she deserves!
Yea, she really sounds like a Sgt that takes care of her officers daily

=======================
^Thanks for your input, Sergeant
If the roles were reversed, it would automatically be insubordination. And you all know it. It's not accidental if she was warned against doing it before!
Oh stop it all you salty cry babies...we all screw up and hope it's "taken care of". Get over it, the only person that should care is the injured P.O. If he or she doesn't want to make a stink, why should the rest of you
"She ordered another p.o. to do the report and classify it as an "accidental injury"."
Can't do it. Sounds like an illegal order.
Go ahead, sock it to me. I didn't throw anything.
If you took out an eye, destroyed someone's depth perception, and ended their career, you are gonna pay for it.
And pay.
And pay.
Sleep tight.
How stupid can you get?

Don't you even think about calling for an assist. Wherever you are, you don't belong there.
I was there and her remarks were " I guess you get to go home early today". Then she chuckled ,as the room got quiet she then said " what ? So he goes iod for a couple of weeks." wtf ???

How about if you show up to work you should not expect to be injured by the negligence of a superior officer? FU asshole commenter! How often does the average boss cause you to get stitches? Total disrespect. She should be fired.
Too bad we can't look up the case report=we could face disciplinary action.
ASA would deny felony charges anyway. I hope the officer is ok. That was very stupid and negligent on the sgt. Especially if he/she was warned about throwing beat tags at people. The construction of the beat tag is hard plastic with sharp edges. What was sgt thinking?

Hey stupid, it's not an accident when you're acting like an ass and doing something that isn't necessary or reasonable. Throwing beat tags at people isn't reasonable and it sure isn't necessary. An accident is when you're behaving normally and something goes wrong that's beyond your control. Throwing beat tags at people is not normal you idiot.
Lawsuit time, Bob. Contact Sandman, Levee, and Petrich. This could be worth over a hundred grand.
the sgt needs 100 hours of community service working at the beat tag shop--- I hope she's not dyslexic--- she should not be treating beat tags like that--- it's hard to believe this happened at all, but nothing suprises me anymore on this job....

your a boner. its still an accident. however, she was grossly negligent in her actions. no crime there. all civil. so go back to sleep you tool.
Yeah she's a bitch for throwing anything at an officer as if he/she is a dog but I say hospitalization case, IOD, CR, 5 days.

It may not be reasonable, but it sure doesn't rise to the level of a crime. I believe Battery says something about the act being knowing, intentional and without legal justification. For those of you that are mentally challenged, intentional means, among other definitions: desiring the probably outcome. Try and proe that in this case.
Last year their was a home invasion in 018.The person robbed was a very prominent rich person,It wasnt even on the news.
Just another Moronic incompetent whiteshirt, the Dept is infested w/them everywhere.
she doesn't care about anybody but herself...and taking one good look at her unkempt, huge appearance, you'll know if she cant take care of herself she can't possibly care what happens to you. she's been warned before, and yet she cant get up from her chair and walk around 'once' around (4 times a week) the roll call room and hand out beat tags, how do you think she's on the street? she made his head bleed, causing a staple to the head, and she had the audacity to laugh about it? hope when w.c. comes back, she gets put in her place.
and about the 'accidental' report, wow.....really.....it just flew out of space and accidentally hit him in the head. what if it had caused blindness in the eye? then what?.....i dont get it.....i just dont
Sorry that this happened to the officer. It should nothave. Maybe something good might come out of this incident, that is, get rid of the stupid beat tag. It is not needed in the first place. No other city uses a beat tag affixed to the top of the light bar. Outside car numbers are enough.
Charge the Sarge with "Reckless Conduct".
Reckless conduct???
Throwing beat tags at people is not normal you idiot.
5/14/2011 05:57:00 AM
negligent, at best, deliberate, malicious and reckless at worst.
and not even an apology.
How stupid can you get?
5/14/2011 12:28:00 AM
give her time, she's dedicated to the task.
If she was warned not to do it and continued to do so, IT'S CALLED RECKLESS CONDUCT! READ THE DAMN STATUTE!
your a boner. its still an accident. however, she was grossly negligent in her actions. no crime there. all civil. so go back to sleep you tool.
5/14/2011 09:45:00 AM
You're a moron. You just admitted that her actions were negligent, hence it is not a fucking accident you dumb ass. Throwing beat tags is beyond stupid. When that dumb ass sergeant puts somebody's eye out then tell me how it was an accident because she didn't INTEND for it to happen. Oh and another thing, nobody said anything about it being criminal so you go back to sleep after you learn how to read tool bag.
Amjur 101
Two parties get into a traffic crash. No one intended for the accident to happen. However one parties actions were deemed negligent and the likely cause of the accident. By the way, your still a boner.

5/15/2011 12:44:00 AM
At least you got it right the first time and called it a traffic crash. There's a big difference between making an unintentional mistake while operating a motor vehicle and acting in a negligent and reckless manner in general. How about a guy that's doing 100mph and swerving in and out of traffic when he hits someone and kills them. He didn't INTEND for it to happen but his ass is still going to be charged criminally and he's going to jail. You don't throw things at people. I don't care if you INTEND to hit them or not. It's reckless, negligent, and stupid. A four year old knows better but it seems a sergeant as well as some commentators on here do not. Now put the boner in your mouth so we don't have to listen to anymore of your nonsense.
Merit sgt?
Ok folks, what is the big deal? B.S. isn't making a big deal out of it and he really doesn't care. So why should we? He was the victim and he is a nice guy and all is forgiven. So now let's move on to other more important stuff.
Did this Sgt. make a mistake? Yes. Do we all make mistakes? Yes. Let's get over this nonsense. B.S. is ok and no he didn't lose vision in any of his eyes. He is ok and recovering. It's amazing how people forget how this Sgt. took care of the early cars on 1st watch.
For the most part this sgt leaves p.o.'s alone. After roll call, maybe one log and thats it for the rest of the night/morning. Decent sgt dumb mistake.
She is guilty
She was ordered by the Lt and W/c to stop throwing the tags. Read the law,its reckless conduct. She continued and failed to obey an order. The Lt got a cr on her. If the patrolman was smart he should sue the Sgt and the Lt and W/c for failing to take action against her after she continued to do it.
