Overnight Shooting

One bad buy dead, one at large, cops are OK. Investigation continuing at this time:
  • Police shot and killed an armed robbery suspect early this morning and were involved in a possible barricade situation at a Bridgeport neighborhood convenience store, officials said.

A large police presence surrounded JJ Peppers Food Store, 3101 S. Union Ave., where a second suspect may have been inside.

At about 1:30 a.m., two Chicago police officers driving by in their squad car saw two people wearing hoodies enter the store, said Pat Camden, a spokesman for the Fraternal Order of Police who came to the scene. They stopped, and then saw one of the suspects jump over the counter, he said.

The two officers quickly entered the store, and one of the suspects opened fire, Camden said. One officer returned fire, killing the suspect, he continued.

Outstanding job officers. And the quote of the night?
  • Cindy Surzynski, who lives on the block, said she heard six shots shortly after 1:30 a.m., followed by five more.

[...] Surzynski said this was the third robbery she was aware of in the neighborhood in recent weeks. "All of a sudden I'm concerned about my block," she said.
But hey, crime is down! Pay no attention to that bleeding dead criminal behind the curtain.

People cheering for McCarthy are dumb. He is being brought in to finish the job on the CPD by cutting, cutting, cutting! He will help Rahm to complete what shortshanks started. Have fun tough guys being the rah rah real police while the pensions, benefits that were earned by those before us, and any semblance of this being a good job are taken from us! This guy brought in by Rahm is not good, he is a corporate hatchet man. We will see.

Yes SCC "when animals attack" the program must be filmed in Chicago with all the crime! Look at once quiet ,beautiful Michigan Ave. The animals are coming there and causing massive panic and crime everywhere! Maybe we should cut off cta service from the southside after 7 p.m. to downtown now that would be "change we could believe in!"

At least one of the bad guys got what he deserved.

**** 025 Breaking News ****

Last night a p.o. was seriously injured because a lazy Sgt. tossed beat tags while calling off the officers names. She was warned before about tossing beat tags at officers. What's wrong with handing it to them?

She tossed a beat tag at an officer and he was seriously injured. He had a very large laceration to his head (he required stitches) and he was complaining of lack of ability to see through his left eye.

Oh, the best part. She ordered another p.o. to do the report and classify it as an "accidental injury". How about telling the fucking truth!

I am sick of the fucking double standard in this department.

NJ State Police "Outraged" Over Rapper Invite to White House

The invitation of rapper Common to the White House this week is drawing the ire of the union representing New Jersey state police.

While even casual hip-hop fans wouldn't characterize him as a controversial rapper, Common found himself under the microscope after First Lady Michelle Obama invited him to the White House for an arts event. In question: the lyrics to "A Song for Assata," about convicted cop-killer and former Black Panther Assata Shakur.

But... But... Wasn't it just announced with much ballyhoo, hubbub, fanfare, kazoos and armpit music that crime was down? Instead of a chicken in every pot, rmd said, "a blue light camera on every pole."That the Police were at this particular place at this particular time was purely happenstance seeing as how Chicago's crime fighting strategy revolved around intentionally shrinking CPD through attrition over the last 10 years to accomplish rmd's dream of a lay-off of virtually one quarter of the department without overtly alerting the tax payers. It's quite amusing when the only ones who paid attention while nearly 4k officers disappeared over the last 10 years are the officers in the field and the criminal element while the media turns a blind and complicit eye to the detriment of the public. Games are being played with lives for political gamesmanship/cynical politics. The powers that be are frightened out of their minds, hence we have the singing, dancing, gyrating & headstanding crime stats that no one with good sense and a conscience can possibly put credence in. The incoming mayoral & police administrations have a plan to aggressively maintain the status quo and continue to starve the tax payers by continuing the war against the Police. Good job by the officers. But no matter what though, in this town, the Police are still the enemy.

This could of been a horrible tragedy. There was about 10 p/os and 2 sgts standing across the street from the store. A store full of windows with a possible offender inside with a rifle. They weren't trapped there, some were even on their phones in the line of fire. They were told to move several times but were oblivious to their surroundings. Please people you are not invincible, yes we take action in the face of danger, but those with no common sense need to get their heads out of their asses.

Off Topic 025 Post- You have to love the fucking hypocrisy in 025 when it comes to the white shirts protecting each other. Last night at 1st watch roll call a Sgt. threw a beat tag at an officer and struck him on the head causing a deep laceration. She didn't even apologize to him. Then she downplayed the whole incident and ordered a p.o. to generate a case report and to classify it as if he injured himself. In the meantime the fucking district commander is automatically sparring anyone who doesn't have a beat tag on their patrol car. Like I said, you have to love the hypocrisy of the white shirts. No beat tag? Uniform isn't on right? You get fucked. A Sgt. throws a beat tag and injures a p.o. "no big deal, let's just cover it all up and laugh it up".

CHICAGO (CBS) — A warning to those who come downtown: Chicago Police are on alert for a new brand of criminal.

Sources say in the past three weeks, there have been more than 35 arrests for wilding and flash mob attacks.

CBS 2′s Suzanne LeMignot reports, Chicago police are stepping up patrols to try to put a stop to it. Recently there was a large police presence in front of McDonald’s at State and Chicago and officers on horseback at North Avenue Beach.

The increased patrols have been noticeable among residents.

“I saw cars, [officers] on horseback and just walking around,” said Joseph Golz, who was cycling along the lakefront. “They were present, now I know why.”

Sources say the lakefront has been targeted by large groups of teens, carrying out wilding incidents. Two people riding bikes on the path at North Avenue Beach were recently surrounded by about 100 teens.

Both were knocked off their bikes, then thrown into Lake Michigan. The same thing happened to a person who was walking along Navy Pier. The pier was shut down for a few hours after the incident.

“I think it’s terrible,” said Jill Gomberg. “I think it’s really scary. The lakefront is like a sanctuary.”

Sources say flash mobs have also entered the McDonald’s at Chicago and State. About 70 teens stormed into the place a few weekends ago. A source says the eatery was closed down for three hours after the incident.

“When you talk about flash mobs, I think it all boils down to one thing, parenting,” said Police Supt. Terry Hillard. “People are not taking control of their kids. It all starts at home.”

The North Face, Filene’s Basement and Express along Michigan Avenue have also been the target of flash theft mobs recently. Teens enter a store, steal as much as they can in seconds, and leave.

“I actually saw an officer chase down a young girl once at the corner of Huron and Rush,” said Miralem Mahmutovic, who witnessed the incident. “She ran out of Express.”

I’m sure Rahm can find another Daley family member to put in charge of “investigating” this problem for a few $100K. Meanwhile, common sense would dictate that a few well-placed bullets would go a long way in ending these “events.”

Not commenting has led to the Media putting the goofy 'they shot pookie whilst he was handing them a gun he found' forward.

Days later, when they release a statement, no one cares. It is time we were proactive in defending and applauding our heroes.

On another note: Looks like they put swipe machines in a few Districts with the palm reader. Treat us like the TMAs and that's what we'll act like.

Oh, the best part. She ordered another p.o. to do the report and classify it as an "accidental injury". How about telling the fucking truth!

I am sick of the fucking double standard in this department.

OT - More from the 018

Saw 2 hood rats walking at illinois/columbus today at 545p and take a swing at a guy walking by because he didn't respect their sidewalk space.

Can't wait till they are done tearing the city down are are left to stealing from the make believe churches when they realize how much $$ the "reverends" actually have.

Ok so they were warned before not to throw it, but do you really think it should have been classified anything other than an accidental injury...I don't think any officer or supervisor would intend to hurt a fellow officer....

Get some balls. If a
Sgt hits you with a beat tag, and causes you to get stitches, at least get a CR. No reason for you to take that If a male sgt did that to a female po they would probably want to charge him criminally She only does this because the watch lets her get away with it and it won't stop until someone stands up to her

It was nice seeing Camden at the shooting scene, but it just kinda feels like a timewarp. Does he add anything to the situation? What does 009 and Area think?

5/11/2011 05:15:00 PM

You are right. It feels like a timewarp, back to when we had someone speaking the truth for us. Say what you want, but it was a smart move. Welcome, and thanks for coming back, PC.

bitch all you want about about MSF...But I guarantee if a sgt hits one of our p.o's in the head with a beat tag.....it would be handled differently in our unit.

O.T. 013 dist 3rd watch lt dean the queen has officially lost it..watching pod cameras and sending p.o.s to make arrests. Wtf this place is insane. Next time strap on your gear and make your own pinch, directing p.o.'s to the suspicious cigarette pack in this day and age is nuts. Maybe the new guy will find a " spot" for you...rubber gun squad.

5/11/2011 08:05:00 PM

Totally true. He was sitting in his office watching the pods and frantically calling cars for enforcement. Seriously Dean, what are you doing? I sure hope that they put down as box 1 on those arrests. I especially loved the one where you directed them to the can of Cobra Malt liquor next to the garbage can while on the zone ! Man, go car-to-car for your nonsense. Better yet, stop trying to put your "people" in the trick bag. How is it possibly for one man to alienate everyone around him including all of his ski trip buddy sgts? You need a furlough or some other time off. Trust us, the 013th district will be just fine without you.

009 is not 006/007/0011/ or even 004. It just isn't , it can be busy but let's not get crazy here. Oh and I work in 009....

My unit has been spending a lot of time in 009 lately. That place is busy!! 9 belongs among the ranks of 7,10,11,15 and the other fast districts. Thank God the officers are ok. One more for the good guys.

ummmm, really? where did you come from 023 or 019?? Ive worked in 009 for 16 of my 24 years and its not anything like 7,10,11, or 15. Im currently in 009 and yes it is busy for the most part but it is nothing like 007, 011 and especially 010 or 015. in 009 your busy part is pretty much 47-55 the ryan to kedzie.. yes, its a big area but if quiet there then the entire district is dead. The past 5 years in 009 has been the slowest I have ever seen that district. If you go to 007 and its quiet on the north end then i can guarantee the south or west end will be up. 009 is a cush spot for a reason. There is a reason many politically connected people go to 009, its diverse, you dont have to be with the trash all night long if you dont want too and it wont burn you out. Stop with the new guy attitide about how busy 009 is, get some time on the job and you would know that its rather quiet in 009 this year....so far

"Look at once quiet ,beautiful Michigan Ave."

Film it.

The biggest single reason things have been getting worse and worse for decades is the media won't tell the truth. Twenty-five years ago there was nothing you could do but watch your hometown be slowly destroyed while most of the public were blissfully ignorant (and wouldn't believe you if you tried to tell them different) but nowadays there's another option.

Guerrilla media. Off-duty. Camera-phone. Internet.

Random stuff is too random obviously but when you get something that keeps repeating in the same area then people must know someone in those stores that would let them sit at an upstairs window?

And which group of people best knows where there'll be a good chance of filming something the media covers up?

Things will never change for the better until the good(ish) guys can get round the media and show the public the truth. If we don't do that then it will keep getting worse.

Guerrilla media. Legal. Safe. And yet potentially so much worse for the bad guys than anything else we could do.

FOP Spokesman Pat Camden got in on channel 9 this morning during his statement, "and these are the types of brave young officers that the city is trying to take away their pension" This is the type of thing that should always happen, beat the city spokesman to the scene and give the media its sound bite !!!
---civilian post---Stay safe to all Officers reading this

I don't care what anyone says, I always liked when Pat Camden came on the news with a report of what happened. I'm glad he's with the FOP now. The FOP should have been doing this years ago. All the ghetto dwellers manipulate the media. They march and wail and cry with the local Reverend (two or three Revs on every blocks it seems). Time for normal citizens to be doing the same thing!

Anyone checking out the head of Major Accidents should note her use of municipal car to retrieve her Ignatius son from school at 3 pm. Do work rules allow extra-curricular personal business like that?

O.T.- You have to love the double standard in 025 1st watch. A Sgt. throws a beat tag at officers (after previously being warned not to do that). She does it again on the night of 11-MAY-2011 and whacks a p.o. right on the head. He needed stitches so it wasn't a laughing matter. The Sgt. throws HER CONSIDERABLE WEIGHT AROUND and forces another p.o. to write up the report as an "accidental injury" in which the p.o. hurt himself.

Once again, you have to love the fucking double standard. Why not take responsibility for your own fucking actions?

5/11/2011 01:39:00 PM

===================================
Well if this is how it happened the P.O. better hope they don't get caught and in trouble for falsifing a report when the truth comes out.

HB 1872 Renee Kosel allows a separated CPD police officer to transfer CPD credits to a downstate police fund. This pension legislation is being passed tomorrow for -- You know who!

Anything being done to secure our pension? Is anyone watching what they're doing to us? Why is the ILLINOIS STATE FOP asking us to make phone calls; where is Chicago FOP, Chicago Pension Fund on this?

Who is watching my pension fund? FYI: Renee Kosel's staff asks for an address before they take your comments.

5/11/2011 05:43:00 PM

No, I don't know who. Is it Voldemort? Is that why you can't type out the name?

In the meantime the fucking district commander is automatically sparring anyone who doesn't have a beat tag on their patrol car. Like I said, you have to love the hypocrisy of the white shirts. No beat tag? Uniform isn't on right? You get fucked. A Sgt. throws a beat tag and injures a p.o. "no big deal, let's just cover it all up and laugh it up".

5/11/2011 03:17:00 PM

EVERY car should have a beat tag on it, period. I can't believe how most cars are now running around without one.

And, as for uniforms, you sure as hell SHOULD be attired in proper uniform. This isn't romper room. It's the police department.

The word 'uniform' means just that; we'll all be wearing the same stuff and adhering to a dress, hair, cleanliness, weapon and accessory code.

Maybe we can finally get rid of the dreds, the beads in the hair, the visible tats, the single earring, the airbrushed one-inch long nails, the nearly sheer ten year old pants, the cocked baseball caps, the yellow sports watches, the patches held on with safety pins, the fluffy ponytails and the fluffier shoulder-length hair swinging loose in the breeze, the variety of blue, medium blue, navy blue and black cardigans with buttons, zippers and velcro, hoodie optional... Never seen such a motley, sloppy looking police department in my three decades out here.

Your beef about the sergeant is warranted and she should take a hefty hit for causing a false report to be generated, but crying about being required to adhere to rules and regs diminishes your point.

HA!

One citizen I saw interviewed on Abc 7 news said, rather matter-of-factly, that everyone in the neighborhood KNOWS that the police patrol up and down 31st St all the time because there's a Dunkin Donuts down the street and the police station is nearby... And she didn't even crack a smile.

5/11/2011 11:35:00 AM

Oh, yes - ha. ha. Maybe it hasn't yet occurred to her that this is the way to and from the station.
Or, maybe they should jet pack in, to make her feel better. I'm sure she'd prefer to see fewer police.
Idiot.
