Quinn Gives Away Millions More

  • Gov. Pat Quinn put up more than $100 million in financial incentives to persuade smartphone company Motorola Mobility to keep its corporate headquarters in Libertyville — the largest package he has offered a company to date and a signal of how badly the state wants to hold on to high-tech jobs.

To persuade the maker of mobile devices and cable TV set-top boxes to stay, rather than move to California or Texas, state lawmakers sweetened terms of its tax-credit incentive program as it has for automakers, including Mitsubishi, and truck- and engine-manufacturers, including Navistar International Corp.

Navistar landed a $64.7 million package last year to keep its headquarters in Illinois, the second-largest deal during Quinn's tenure.

The Illinois packages are among a rash of retention deals cropping up nationwide as the economic malaise keeps unemployment at painful levels.
Spending more money he doesn't have.

OT -- ANOTHER Chase Bank going up on the northwest corner of Montrose and Central tonight.

I see these empty after the locations fail, too. Vote Of No Confidence.

There's a Depression on.

"Spending more money he doesn't have."

Oh, he's got it to spend, all right; he's stealing it from our pensions.

The key words here are "keep its corporate headquarters in Libertyville" or about 350 - 500 people. Nothing about the 3000 plus who work in the manufacturing end is mentioned.

Say, how many airplane plants did we get after the Boeing bribe, I lost count.

Hmmmm...

Maybe Motorola is holding on to a "app" which would not allow anyone TXT while driving.

See "More Nanny Statism"

They pass a law, Motorola makes the only phone, who gets the campaign money.

I am a police officer and made a little over $100,000 last year with OT and misc.

I want some tax incentive from Gov Quinn to entice me to stay in Illinois. I retire this year and my pension is near $70,000.00 annually.

I will leave Illinois and take my pension money elsewhere unless I get financial incentives from Quinn to stay here.

I want a tax credit equal to the tax increase I started paying in January. I also want tax credits equal to Chicago and Cook County sales tax.

Also no internet tax.

I am awaiting Gov Quinn's reply. In the meantime I am packing and looking for a nice house near San Antonio, Texas.

Yeah the illusion of "we're all in this together" when they raise taxes for everyone.

Then, tax break after tax break incentive each corporation will step up and ask where's mine as they hold jobs hostage for tax breaks.

Cat got one where's mine. Ford got one where's mine. Motorola got one where's mine...etc...

If the middle class taxpayers were smart they would follow the corporations lead, band together, sit down and not go to work until THEY got a tax break to go to work.

Basically taking peoples pension money and handing it over to corporations in the form of tax incentives if you follow the money trail.

Same thing with the x-mayors security detail and new cars.

Stealing peoples future.

Now every CEO in Illinois owes it to his own company to go in and try to get the same deal for his shareholders.

Quinn either chases them out of the state or hurts his budget with these ill-advised giveaways.

What a dufus.

This is TOTALLY STUPID and Quinn should be a one-term governor.

If you remember several years ago, Motorola got tax incentives from the state to the tune of about $44 Million for the Harvard (Illinois) facility. They were in Harvard for less than two years and shut it down.

No repayment of any or all the incentives they received. We got duped.

Hopefully the state has smarter lawyers drafting the agreements with a clause that says if the company moves out within 5 or 10 years, they have to pay back a portion or all of the tax breaks.

This is NOT job creation or even job retention for Illinois. It is extortion by corporations that say you want us to stay - pay us money.

Now Quinn will make some big speeches on how he "created" another 1,000 good-paying jobs.

That is NOT expanding the tax base and that's what you need to do if you want to keep handing out raises and paying for benefits to all you government workers.

but he can raise our taxes, try to take our pensions, and tell the city and suburbs that the state has no money to give to them so they better cut their budgets and lay off police and fire....funny he never mentioned any of this while he was be re-elected....maybe blago can save him a seat in the pen.....

Quinn should fund the pension first before giving away millions that he doesn't have.

So, how much was the state supposed to make with the tax increase? Looks like the regular tax payers are the only one paying it huh? Just put it back the way it was for pity sake. Quinn is the biggest retard I have ever seen

But talk to people around town and in the suburbs and all they know is "See, Motorola is staying in Illinois, they must think its ok for business here". They only remember the quick news bites. Its a shame how lazy and stupid folks are nowadays.

This state is unfucking believable. Navistar would have stayed for free if the fucking state wouldn't have given it so much trouble about it moving in the first place. Then when they had enough and wanted to leave, they gave them millions to stay.

I don't understand how the state can INCREASE all these taxes for the wealthy and businesses yet give them millions of dollars not to leave. That not only defeats the purpose of raising taxes, but costs the state way more money.

If any of our politicians had a clue how to run a business, or run a state, they wouldn't be doing this shit and businesses wouldn't threaten to leave in the first place. I am so disgusted. Quinn and Madigan are such tools.

The Democrats must get their economic degrees out of a box of frickin' Cracker Jack. How many smaller companies have quietly left or gone out of business over decades because of all the waste and fraud in this shithole of a State? And NOW we're gonna fix it by offering some mammoth company incentives to stick around?

Recently bought a new motorcycle. Talking to the owner of the place, he said they had overpaid the state some tax or other. When he inquired as to what he had to do to get it back, they said "we have no money to give you, just take it as a credit on the next couple months that you owe us....." Screw the little guy trying to run a business, give a multinational corp. millions. Makes sense to me.

Guess Quinn was saving it for Motorola

I do believe everything made by Motorola comes from China. Just what does this company make here in Illinois? Just another way to piss away our tax dollars away. No wonder this entire state is bankrupt.

See...here we go.

Now Sears HQ in Hoffman Estates is shaking down the taxpayer, extorting jobs for tax breaks or threatening to move out of state.

One by one..where's my tax break?

Push the burden of running this country and city onto the middle class taxpayers -- after all they have no lobbyist of campaign contributions to give that will match the mighty corporations.
