Friday Fun

Not only are there supposedly a bunch of exempt changes in store, Rahm's union deadline looms today also:
  • Mayor Rahm Emanuel hinted strongly Thursday that he is not about to wait much longer for organized labor to sign off on cost-saving work-rule changes to avert 625 layoffs.

Two weeks ago, the Chicago Federation of Labor said it had hired a consultant to scour the city budget and pinpoint alternative savings. The federation said it needed more time to finalize that report.

Emanuel, who is better known for his impatience, granted the extension. The new deadline is Friday.

The city has to give out 30 day notices to lay off people, so the paper process would begin today before the close of business, putting more pressure on the unions to cave in to Rahm. Like we said, interesting times locally, statewide and nationally.

625 more welfare applicants.

Who's gonna hire them?

Not Motorola. Not the CME. Not Cat. Not Sears. Not any of the other Illinois based corporations that received a state tax break.

The unwillingness or inability of the so-called best and brightest running the corporations and the political theater to leverage this workforce is obvious.

They have failed to leverage the workforce into something that creates and builds a better life for us all. Failed!

We lose the labor, lose the productivity, lose the tax revenue from these layoffs.

We gain the trickle up poverty and the increase in taxes to offset their contributions that no longer will be there.

Shortly the remaining workers will also pick up the tab not just for the lost tax revenue but the tab for the mortgage foreclosures that depress your homes resale value and the defaults on their credit cards and other loans as they file for bankruptcy.

So much for the politicians saving/creating jobs bullshit.

Watch how much money we really save from this maneuver when in a few months the employment runs out and we expand the "put Illinois to work program" as a result.

For those unaware the put Illinois to work job program is where the state pays 100% of a person wages for up to one year if a corporation will hire them in a min-wage job -- basically giving the corporation free labor as the taxpayers are still paying the welfare it's just money laundered via a different set of hands that's all.

Smoke and mirrors.

It's time for union memberships to stand up against shitbags like Emanuel who do nothing by strip the middle class and enrich the already rich.

This fucker needs to feel the pain when 625 workers disappear.

He's already pulled this shit with the police and we see what's happened there, haven't we?

This fucker, and all the libtard fuckers who support this fucker, need to feel the pain of this fucker's threats to intimidate the workers of this city into eating his shit so he can look like a tough guy by forcing unions to fuck themselves over.

THIS SHIT IS NOTHING MORE THAN AN ATTEMPT TO SEPARATE EMPLOYEES FROM THEIR UNION LEADERSHIP!!!

UNION LEADERSHIP CAN NEGOTIATE AND ACCEPT WORK PLACE CHANGES BECAUSE THE MEMBERSHIP DOES NOT HAVE TO BE ALLOWED TO VOTE ON THOSE THINGS!!!!

THIS IS AN ATTEMPT TO PISS OFF LABOR AT THEIR UNIONS IF THE UNIONS ACCEPT HIS SHIT WITHOUT THEIR INPUT!!!

The same thing will start happening to the CPD and CFD as soon as this bullshit is done and as soon as the teacher bullshit is done.

COUNT ON IT

Emanuel moves to outsource city work, cut 625 jobs
Posted by Greg H. at 7/15/2011 11:10 AM CDT

Have you noticed the blue recycling carts around the outside of Police stations and inside some parks? They belong to the private contractor that picks up their contents. NOT city workers.
The same private contractor who has hundreds of one man garbage trucks sitting inside a huge garage just west of the Stevenson x-way near Damen ave.
Letting them take the recycling is their first foot in the door. Can you say Privatized? Who is affiliated with that company???

Speaking of recycling. I heard that Chicago is the only large city that pays to have recycling waste hauled away and disposed of. Most other big cities have contracts where the recyclers haul away the commodities and split the profits from the sales. NOT in Chicago. Who came up with that contract?

Another Progressive failure. Socialism does not work, it never can because it is self defeating. It only creates a bloated government that devours itself up till it collapses. The only system that has ever been successful and has brought such greatness to our nation, free market capitalism, has been tossed aside. Even China has adopted it to it's prosperity and we freely throw it away. History will see us as spoiled children who doomed our own future through our apathy. The Progressive's plan has come to fruition. Do not forget to tell your grandchildren what life was like during the Pax Americanus.

I am sure somewhere locked away in City Hall there is a plan that was formulated after the Shakman Decree for just such an occurrence. It would include ultimatums, police guarding the yards and equipment, mass firings and selling the trucks off to a Vanecko shill company for pennies. They would hire non-union minimum crews of Section 8 and Link card holders who would double dip those benefits and the paychecks.

There would be new per Supercart taxes and garbage collection for working home owners as we know it would be a thing of the past. Rahm would glow by not wasting the crisis and spout how much money he was saving city by privatizing the garbage collection even though it would cost us more.

The Shakman Decree as practiced here is almost worse than it was before it existed. It destroyed something that was really precious and uniquely Chicago, "Workingman's Clout".

Unless the city unions can topple an administration a strike could very well backfire.

Another troll for the "pro shit on government employee" camp heard from.

Other than their line of bullshit spewed forth on public TV, YOU GOT ANY PROOF THIS CITY IS BROKE AND CAN"T PAY IT"S BILLS?

YOU SEE A FORENSIC AUDIT OF THIS CITY YET TO PROVE IT TO YOU?

Didn't think so.... just believing the bullshit coming outta Emanuel's mouth like it's the word of god.

Government's been playing this game for a few years now.... without ANY proof of it's truth or not, just bullshit words.

Oh sure, Quinn's told the comptroller not to pay bills. THAT doesn't mean shit as to whether Illinois is broke, it only means THEY'RE NOT PAYING BILLS ON PURPOSE BECAUSE THEY WERE TOLD NOT TO.

And as for Emanuel, and US putting "skin" in HIS game?

FUCK EMANUEL!!

He's the exact same motherfucker that's been dolling out millions to his buddies for frivolous fucking bullshit this city should NOT be spending money on if it truly was "broke", like:

FUCK THE 28 MILLION DOLLARS FOR A BIKE PATH.. THEY CAN GO FUCK THEMSELVES AND PAY FOR IT THEMSELVES!!!

Graeber moving up, possibly street deputy
...........................

The position of Street Deputy was eliminated almost 3 years ago. When you're making up bullshit lies at least have a foundation in truth to sell them.

Actually, you're both correct. The Street Deputy (ADS position) was eliminated 3 years ago. However, it IS coming back. Four S.D. spots to be filled. McCarthy has already told all the exempts that.

4:37 P.M.: I have to agree, no one is on the side of the middle class. Republicans and Democrats have their own agendas and helping the Middle class is not on their radar.

The remaining custodians at O'Hare were moved two months ago in anticipation of this move. The custodians, mostly African American citizens, were vilified and demonized by the local politicians and media.

The first lie was that the domestic terminals were dirtier than the international building where Scrub Inc. had a contract.

Later Scrub Inc. was ordered to pay 2 million in restitution by the EEOC for discriminating against African Americans who applied for jobs, some were likely former City custodians.

The African American citizen employees were replaced with lower wage Polish and Mexican workers, many of whom who cannot speak English.

The Unions didn't stick up for these custodians, now the same craven politicians are coming after other Union workers in higher paid professions.

Rather than marching around in the Wisconsin capital, we should have been marching around City Hall like you police officers did years ago.

Whaa, whaa, whaa......
Let's not kid ourselves. How many times have you seen city crews standing around doing little of nothing? Why does it take two weeks to fix a catch basin? Why does it take three weeks to do one block of sidewalk. Why does a guy keep a lawn chair in the truck to watch another guy change a light bulb. Drove by some guys at 7:40 in the morning. Job box open, standing around a handicap corner w/ their hands in their pockets and no vests on (hiding??). I thought they start at 7:00? We've all seen it and choose to ignore it. There is no way that the cost can be equal to a private sector company! They want to make a profit, while the city workers want to make the day/week. How can the unions justify this?
The changes are long overdue.

wow... it's a good thing we have a hometown son in the white house. otherwise there would be mass layoffs and no police on our streets. wait a minute
**********************************
AND, we also would have outrageously high gas prices. Like, the highest in the nation..wait a minute,...

All Area Gun Teams and Sat Teams to fixed Mon Tue day off group and hours 8pm to 4am

If true, I'm gonna need to be reminded again of what's the perk of being here. Monday Tuesday d.o.g.? Hopefully, my locker in 018is still available. If the intent is to send more officers scurrying back to districts, straight Monday Tuesday d.o.g. just might do the trick. I mean, really, why wouldn't I just do 4 and 2 in a district, on 3rd watch? Lot less pressure. Throw in, no chance of ever having weekend days off, without burning a slip. Get the fuck outta here!

To the person who said: "I'll bet their families will notice." In response to: "These 625 will be gone and no one will notice the difference. Which begs the question, 'Why were they here to begin with?'. "

You IDIOT. It's not government's job to provide for these people's families. Take some personal responsibility. You are free to donate as much money as you want to help out these families. My guess, you won't give them a dime. You expect others to do it. I can read your mind. You're thinking, "somehow this is all Bush's fault".
