Orange One Earning His Green
Police shot and killed a man when he took a woman hostage outside of a club in the Gresham neighborhood on the South Side early this morning, police said.
At 12:40 a.m., police received a 911 call of a man with a gun near South Ashland Avenue and West 80th Street, said Pat Camden with the Fraternal Order of Police. Gresham District officers responded and saw a large group of people coming out of a club in the area. The officers saw a man who had taken a woman hostage, Camden said. "He had his arm around her neck and was holding her in front of him," Camden said.
Officers began to struggle with the man during which the woman was able to get away, unhurt, Camden said. The man reached for a weapon in his waistband which prompted police to fatally shoot the man, he said.

It's unusual to see an FOP press officer, as opposed to a CPD News Affairs rep, being quoted in news articles on matters relating to breaking crime news. What's up with that? Why is the union doing this? And is CPD brass OK with the union stealing the spotlight? In my opinion, what Pat Camden is doing is making the union more authoritative to the general public, making FOP the go-to source for the press. Smart move.
I was monitoring the zone for 023 District last night. There must have been 10-15 different calls of m/1s with guns in the vicinity of Clark St by WRIGLEY FIELD!!! Plus, bonafide Armed robberies. What the hell is going on over there???
All you Shields haters take note; the fact is that he filled the void of putting a "pro" police spin on news that otherwise would be twisted against us. Every POI shooting has the Orange Guy telling our side, while the Media is stuck with some toothless mope claiming it was an assassination. In a world where perception becomes reality, the first story counts.

Pat Camden is certainly a great spokesman for the Police. I always thought he did a great job when he worked for the city and now for the FOP. Hopefully he gets on the news when all serious situations involving the police are going on. Great job Mr. Camden!
Worked the scene last night. Great job by officers in the shooting and by the officers controlling the scene. I feel bad for whoever has to work tonight, as the 'element' will either be protesting or really rowdy. We need to have eyes in the back of our heads.

Well, Monique was speaking for the CITY, not for US. Maybe that's the difference? Ya think?
And for the people bitching, wanting Pat to represent the police department, uh, NO. If he represents the CPD or the City, he has to read the Party script.
When he works for US, he has OUR best interests at heart and can speak freely for US, not say what the superintendent TELLS him he can say.

Shields is either a smart cookie or he stumbled into this one, but either way, hiring Pat Camden at FOP was a great move. Grau just hired Monique Bond at ISP to fill the newly created position of PIO and she's the one that engineered Camden's unceremonious exit at CPD. Biggane, Bond and Camden at the same meeting would be an interesting sight to observe.

Post the Companies to boycott for our Coppers so they know and can boycott too, if they want. Stick together. Companies, ie. What was wrong with the current way for releasing information about a shooting? the city made no comment other than to say that a person was shot by police, no further comment. What happens when Camden says somethng that's not true or makes an error in what he says and they bring that up during the civil case( because if you shoot good or not you will be sued)? Plus does Fop ask the officer involved if they can make a comment on his behalf concerning the shooting first?

No idea on the whether the office furniture was warranted, but if a new car was necessary anyway, I'm thinking it's good he didn't buy a Prius.
Hate to say it, but you sound really jealous. We ARE the big city police, after all. Our union president should be using a vehicle that is appropriate to that position. One could assume he is driving people around in that car, lobbying with that car, taking other city, state or Federal officials around in that car, etc. I wouldn't be expecting him to do that in some haywagon.
It's kind of like the nice suits. Sadly, too many people are impressed with expensive business attire and lots of gold jewelry. In a lot of quarters, that gives you an edge, and, whether it's warranted or not, more credibility. If the nice car has that effect, so be it.
Let's remember, it's not HIS car. It's the FOP's car and it will be the FOP's car well after he's gone.
