The same problems you are experiencing in your neck of the woods, we are experiencing it. Let me elaborate. I have relatives in who live in the suburbs of Virginia. Good/decent places to live with good schools. Suburbia if you will. People move there to avoid these animals. But the animals are slowly moving in to these good suburbs. This trend slowly started in 2005 and increased slowly. In Chicago's suburb this same trend is taking place.
Some of these people who welcome them with open arms believe that it's the living conditions in the ghetto that is the problem. No, the problem is their mentality. I have no problem living with someone who has a decent sense of right and wrong. But would you want to live with people who act this way? People who have no sense of morality?
Media in Chicago would have painted it as, "Hungry, malnourished, desperate youths from a neighboring impoverished, disavantaged community, entered this store looking for food. Empowered by their numbers, and caught up in the moment, they neglected to pay."
The Chicago press would write it off as ghetto hijinks.
Thankfully, the clerk wasn't hurt. In 006, the cash register would be gone and the clerk would have received a baseball bat to the face.

That's why the Costco business model works profitably. When you control who actually comes into the store through membership contracts you reduce theft and considerably. You ever notice that when a mainstream business, like Dominick's, tries opening in the Hood it doesn't last more than a few years. The costs of theft, criminal damage, arson, and batteries to employees, just wear a company down to the point where it isn't really profitable to operate in shit neighborhoods. That's why the joints that stay open employ the plexiglass/40 oz through the window model and are owned by immigrant Arabs willing to take risks. actually, I did see a bunch of white kids do a flash mob downtown at daley plaza. At a specific time they all ran into the patio at the plaza and did a coordinated dance that lasted about 45 seconds... they then peacefully left leaving SURROUNDING CITIZENS SMILING AND CLAPPING. Zero property damage, no looting, no major disruption and was a little cool and funny to see. But, the savages cant have fun unless they are creating havoc... typical. West Side Inside Know Nothing you obviously weren't paying attention. The son of the owner is named Mohammed. How many white people name their kid Mohammed? It's obvious the owner of the store is Middle Eastern.
The media need to stop referring to this as "shoplifting". This is strong armed robbery. The kids are calm and brazen because they have established threatening physical control through numbers. In re: the video
Did anyone happen to see the very inspirational video that surfaced on the screen when the Flash Mob video finished?
It told the story of an oxygen thief in Detroit who carefully selected his carjacking victim, but fell far short on the screening process. His intended "victim" had a CCW and cut short the thief's promising career. Yep... DRT!

This is REALLY TRAGIC! The fine men/women who fought so hard for civil rights and equality must be rolling in their graves. What a shame, and I know many fine African Americans who are as SAD, HURT, AND ANGRY, by the behavior of just a few ignorant idiots.

Late, but why can't they each be charged for the total amount that was robbed from the store. The group acted as one to perpetrate this crime.
If three thieves rob a jewelry store, wouldn't they each be charged with the entire take?
