"Temporary" to Become Permanent

  • Illinois Republican Party Chairman Pat Brady condemned Governor Pat Quinn’s comments that he wouldn’t rule out making all or part of the state’s temporary 66% income tax hike permanent. Brady also announced a citizens online petition drive against the idea at NoIllinoisTaxHike.com.

“Businesses and taxpayers have already been looking at leaving Illinois,” Brady said. “The only thing worse than a temporary tax hike would be a permanent one.”

Brady said, “The way to bring jobs back to Illinois is through lower taxes – not higher taxes. The Governor apparently hasn’t noticed that the states that are creating the most jobs these days are the ones who are lowering taxes.”

The 5% rate is scheduled to fall to 3.25% in 2014 and down to 3% in 2024, but Quinn and the democrats can't even be bothered to live up to a political promise the same year they made it. Meanwhile Illinois continues to hemorrhage jobs and potential future tax dollars, which only makes the death spiral that much tighter.

How stupid is Gov Queer. I am retired, but live in shitcongo only because I see my granddaughters regularly. I do ALL my shopping in Indiana because its cheaper: gas, groceries, cigarettes, alcohol products, even going to the casinos. Its quiet and no real ghetto rats. Thats why people are leaving Illinois and Shitcongo. He could keep raaising taxes and he'll get less revinue as people will travel to Indiana. Just to show you how much people are concerned in saving money, there are 2 gas stations at one corner, one charges a PENNY less it is always crowded and cars are lined up to get in. Go to the site www.gasbuddy.com and punch in zip code 46321 and see what I'm talking about.

The State of Illinois budget is all fantasy. We have an $85 bil. pension obligation and these new taxes are only bringing in an estimated $8 bil/year.

The fantasy projections are that pension investments are going to earn an average of 8% each year for the next forty years!! Good luck with that plan -- have you looked at the interest rate paid on US Treasuries for example?

As those interest rates fall short, the debt goes higher and so will either the taxes or the cuts. Probably both.

If you think that we're going to grow our way out of this by creating a bunch of Obama shovel ready WalMart like jobs think again. There's no tax revenue to be had there.

In fact does anyone need to be reminded that the USPS is set to lay off 250,000 across the USA.

The worst is yet to come!

Brady is absolutely right.

You don't raise taxes in a time where you are trying to entice new businesses to come in AND businesses already here to maintain their position in Illinois.

For this alone, Quinn should be recalled. He is killing the future of Illinois and by the way, killing the funding for YOUR pensions.

Remember, no tax base means no source for funding pensions (no matter what it says in the Illinois Constitution).

In order to make up the shortfall what are they going to do, raise the sales tax to 15% - NO ONE will buy anything here.

What they can do is tax any out-of-state pension and say that since you are not re-circulating it into the economy here - you can send 20% of it back to the state.

So you want to go somewhere where the cost-of-living is cheaper? Great. Send 20% of your pension back.

Cost-of-living argument can cut both ways. You don't need as much there so you can send some of it back here.

So much for moving to Florida.

I thought he'd at least be tolerable. Boy was I wrong. This bastard is just as bad as the last few governors of this state. I can't wait for the next election, maybe the guy I vote for will win for a change.

On 60 Minutes last night, they ran an interesting piece on how American corporations are fleeing the U S to avoid our 2nd HIGHEST in the world 35% corporate tax rate. The two most popular destinations are Ireland (12%) and Zug, Switzerland (12 to 13%). Zug is a medieval Swiss town with a population around 26,000 people, yet there are about 30,000 businesses who claim to be headquartered there and that number is increasing by 800 a year!

People like Quinn and Rahm and Obama are making it very likely that this country will become a Republican or Tea Party controlled nation in 2012.

The American tax payers are being hit over the head constantly for more taxes, fees, fines, etc, etc. They are getting fed up. They are seeing these politicians claiming billion dollar deficits and holes in the budget, YET they CONTINUALLY announce new free lunch programs, free school supply programs, free internet programs, free cell phone programs that are all supposedly paid for by corporate donations. The fact is, these corporate "donations" get paid for by the tax payers in higher fees and prices at the cash register, where some people only pay with a Link card.

If the power in Congress shifts in 2012 we may see what happened in Wisconsin's state capital happen across the nation. These entitlement budgets HAVE TO BE CUT, and you know that once people get used to being supported by govt. checks, they aren't going to want to go back to actually working for a living.

Things are going to get a lot worse before they get better!

The State of Illinois has more government agencies than any other state in the nation.

Based on per capita representation in the city councils of the nation's most populous cities, Chicago should only have about seventeen (17) wards/aldermen.

On the far South-East side of our fine city, Whiting Indiana is getting set to build a giant Super WalMart. It is literally just a few blocks across the Illinois-Indiana state line.

Just another example of Chicago missing the boat and not only giving up taxes that could have been generated but giving up all the money Chicagoans are going to spend in another venue and NOT in Chicago.

Good job Governor.

They always make the tax increase "temporary" and then like magic it becomes permanent a few years later.

The only governor to tell the truth was Ogilvie who put in the first income tax. For that he was crucified, defeated and followed by Gov Dan Walker. Walker served 18 months in a Federal prison in a time honored Illinois tradition.

Had a summer full of BBQs with the neighbors and friends from my kids schools. I am amazed at how the conversation has switched to politics, politics and more politics.

There are still a few who cling to the 'Democrats are doing the right thing for people'. There are far more that have swung to full blown Republicans.

Plenty have woken up to the tax and spend politicians. Plenty are now aware of the danger "Sanctuary City" status represents to our safety and savings. Even more are aware that the politicians are not looking out for our best interests.

I hope the numbers continue to grow and I hope it's not too late.

I can't believe the Illinois politicians actually lied to us about the income tax hike. Once these low lifes raise a tax it will NEVER go down. Toni Perwinkle over at Crook County is bringing down the sales tax increase that Earkle Stroger gave us but I am sure the Crook County Board will come up with some new tax to make up for it. I have 4 dogs. Each year when they get their rabies shots there is a new (2 yrs.) Crook County tax of $6.00 for each shot. Another $24.00 stolen out of my pocket for what? Now we have Quinn doubling the tolls for most highways to fund a construction program. The only slugs getting anything from this are the connected contractors. It never ends.

Dear Mr. Quinn - If you lower the tax rate and businesses flock here, you will have more tax revenue overall than you would get if you had only a FEW businesses paying top rate. Get someone to do the math for you.

And - please, I know you're a politician and you like sitting in the front row at events and being ushered around like you're God, but stop lying to the people of the State of Illinois. If you plan to raise our taxes and make it permananent, be honest about it. You're just another jerk who will tell the populace ANYTHING, as long as it keeps you in office.

So where were all the jobs being created when we had a 3% income tax, the lowest in the country (apart from the six states with no income tax, half of which are subsidized by the federal tax more populous states pay but don't get back)?

And they still will not own up and fund our pensions! But yet Quinn can find millions more for the failed total shit criminal enterprise known as CPS! The system that allows illegals here that cheat to attend,as their parents relax and keep taking health care-link cards-housing-and stealing social security numbers remain unabated! Cut the bullshit Quinn man up and pay your obligations to the first responders not the illegals who you cater to like you did with the dream act? What is dream act? simply stated it allows illegal kids to get free college scholarships as we struggle to pay the taxes, work multiple jobs to pay for our children's tuition,as all our life we have paid and paid now they let all our toil to be given away!
Makes you wonder if you stop a citizen with a proper license and insurance do you hammer them? Or do the proper thing let them go,as they already paid enough while the illegals drive and tell us "sorry no speaka English,no license or they give you that bullshit made up mexican license most likely from that shop on 26th street that alderman munoz and his family own and operate unabated!

Why doesn't the F.O.P. take a stand against Chicago's standing as a " Sanctuary City"? Some large organization needs to explain to the taxpayers just how much this costs them. On a daily basis we encounter multitudes of citizens getting the shaft on simple traffic accidents or victims of theft by "harmless junkers". Using England as an example of a nation in turmoil due to unmanageable entitlement programs, the light needs to be shown on this riot in the making. The Democrats are standing behind the " Dream Act " which will pay for illegals to be educated here and given preferential admission to State Univ's. This insanity is killing us and soiling the hard work of those who came here legally.

Only the blind and stupid didn’t see this coming.

Give them awhile longer and they will be asking for more – because they’re shrinking the tax base and probably won’t even collect as much tax as under the lower rates. The monster will remain hungry as long as we feed it.

QUINN MUST GO

it smells badly doesn't it?
