Save Rahm Some Money

Over at ChicagoBudget.org, Rahm is soliciting ideas to save some green in order to close a $600 million gap without raising taxes.

You can click over to this link here, then look at the middle of the page. There's a title that reads "Browse Recent Ideas" and directly underneath are a set of tabs that read "Recent," "Popular," and "Hot." Under the "Popular" and "Hot," the top vote getter is "Cut the aldermen pay and expenses."

We're looking to see if anyone had proposed eliminating actual aldercreature spots. Regardless, anything involving aldercreatures ought to get a little attention from the readers. We're all supposed to be in this together, right? We just haven't seen our politicians sacrificing the way they want everyone else to do.

Nothing like sending a message.

Fuck saving Rahm some money.

I have a degree in economics and have run successful businesses. However, I refuse to offer suggestions that may have the unintended consequence of taking money out of a legitimate working man's pocket...suggestions that may very well trickle down to where it effects us as well.

This is a parallel trick to what the CPD uses all the time. Brassholes ask for "suggestions, ideas and input" from the ranks and then take full credit for any and all accolades that come with the implementation of these ideas.

I just had a great idea, Rahm. You and your digit-challenged hand can stop by before my furlough's over and work my balls.

O.T. Is every other district doing what 009 has been doing for the past 3 or 4 weeks? On 3rd watch, every single rapid car is held down the entire tour on "missions" and not given any radio jobs. Only one rapid car actually brings in arrests pretty much daily, but that's another issue in itself. The rapids get their few dispersals, contact cards, parkers, anovs, and they call it a night while every beat car and the wagons run our butts off all night job to job. OEMC is also holding almost all jobs on a beat to that desiganated beat car, which includes stacking priority 1A jobs (sometimes 30 minutes or more) while the rapids roam around on the "missions." Not only is this a danger to the public who have to wait for the beat car to clear up before being assigned the stacked 1-A job while 5 or 6 rapids roam around not being given ANY jobs, but the actual beat cars are running non-stop all night. There has been a RAP or two in 009 almost every night on 3rd watch since this began. Is this the idea of our "gung-ho" commander in 009, or is this going on all across the city?? Just asking, because it's pointless to have 8 or 10 P.O.'s who just come in every night and make a couple street stops and call it a night while everyone else gets denied lunch and runs job to job??

2. Los Angeles.....3,792,621 (15)

4. Houston.........2,099,451 (11)
5. Philadelphia....1,526,006 (17)
6. Phoenix.........1,445,632 (9)

(Average: One city council member per 165,426 residents)

3. Chicago.........2,695,598 (50)
(One City Council member per 53,912 residents)

nothing we say will matter. they have already said the property taxes were being raised to their maximum limit to pay more for schools than we are already overtaxed. What difference does it make any more? Whatever we save will just be increased by fees and taxes elsewhere so we lose in the end anyway. I'm tired of the card shuffle frankly.

Illinois State Police ready for 74 new cadets

Associated Press
6:15 a.m. CDT, August 13, 2011

SPRINGFIELD -- The Illinois State Police are ready for a new class of cadets.
A class of 74 new recruits starts Aug. 21 and will undergo 25 weeks of training at the agency's training academy in Springfield.
If they make it, they'll graduate in February and then become probationary troopers in districts statewide.

Training Academy Commander Rebecca Long says the training is demanding physically, emotionally and intellectually. At the academy, the new recruits learn firearms training, terrorism awareness, criminal law and a host of other things.
When the training is over, State Police Director Hiram Grau says the new troopers will be ready to protect Illinoisans.

The Rapids in 025 are doing the same thing as in 09 and have been for months. I can't blame the Rapids they are doing what they are told as is the Watch Commander. It is that POS District Commander that is the problem. The beat cars chase jobs all night long and the rapids only stay on their missions.

The same DC that has foot patrols on Fullerton and Diversey every day because of the whim of an Alderman. I have said it before and I will say it again, nothing happens on Fullerton or Diversey, all the problems are north and south of those streets. Just because North Avenue got a foot patrol Suarez thought he needed his own also.

To: O.T. Is every other district doing what 009 has been doing for the past 3 or 4 weeks.
Here is your answer………Every district is in protection mode. The commanders know they are being scrutinized by Jersey Boy and DTEB who is trying to stay afloat himself. DTEB is screwing with your commander BIG TIME, calling him at all hours of the night asking why he hasn't responded to his email yet, and demanding to know what each and every car is doing at the instant of any one of the random incidents of violence. DTEB wants IN WRITING a separate report for every incident hat occurs inside one of the boxes. To show the level of F#$K he is getting, 009 is the only district with three boxes, every other district has one. After an incident, a report has to be done to DTEB detailing why the box was created, what the problems are in the area in and surrounding the boxes, what resources have been utilized to address the problems, what each resource was doing at the time of the incident and what plan of action immediately followed the incident and what long term strategy is going to be implemented. If DTEB is told a car was running a mission, he wants the mission number and results of the mission, i.e. number of contact cards, curfews, arrests with CB#s etc. If they were down on an assignment he wants the nature of the assignment, event number, RD number. If a car was available, for how long? Now, none of that matters, but DTEB and his minion clowns are screwing with your commander in order to get him to quit and fill the slot with one of his preferences. We were all hoping for the fall of DTEB, he was over-promoted at patrolman- but Jersey Boy is obviously not calling the shots. He has shown himself to simply be a figurehead. He is told by Rohm and the political hack government we have what he will do, what he will say and who will be doing what and where. He is only a photo prop! Doubt me? Would ANY copper, or most any citizen for that matter believe that beach excuse. Hell No! We closed the beach because it was too hot is the statement of a politician desperately scrambling to conjure up a lie so the violence ravaging down town and the lakefront doesn’t get known by the tax payers----- I mean voters. Lie at any cost to save face, get votes and steal money/funds. Notice it was Jersey boy lying and not digi-squat the mayor. If the citizenry didn't believe the lie digi could step in for the spin/save and admonish the new Supt for not knowing. Jersey boy sold his soul on that day!

• In taxpayer interests in excellence and morale and to eliminate any perception of impropriety and corruption, base all police hiring, promotions and assignments on unbiased, transparent, well-defined standardized criteria which eliminates "clout"/patronage, nepotism, cronyism and outright bribery (collectively known as "the Chicago Way"). I agree 100% Why do we need any aldermen period. When you call for problems you get directed to call 311. Everyday someone posts to lessen or eliminate aldermen. I've been saying this for years. I posted several times to eliminate aldermen on this site but someone (probably an alderman) always rebuts they are needed because why? because we always had them. Good reasoning. Should Chicago Cut the Size of its City Council? BGA Analysis Does the Math (re-posting from Dec. 2010)

[...]
The Cost of the City Council
According to the 2011 budget released by City Hall, the City Council budget for next year will be $24.5 million. Without knowing how other cities calculate their City Hall budgets, it’s hard to make a comparison. In addition to the $110,000 salary Aldermen receive, they get $176,484 a year to pay for three employees. They also have a $73,280 expense account, which, according to Title 2 of the Municipal Code of Chicago, they are free to use in ways ranging from travel costs to the “payment of miscellaneous, ordinary and necessary expenses incurred in connection with the performance of an alderman’s official duties.” That’s approximately $350,000 taken up by operating costs for each aldermanic office. This does not include the amount spent on pensions and other benefits. To see how your Alderman spent his or her expense account, take a look at this Chicago Tribune app. Just enter your address.

Savings from Cuts to the Council

If Chicago reduced the city council’s size in half, from 50 to 25, there would be savings for the city. The city would save $2.7 million in alderman salaries on top of another $4.4 million that would be saved by eliminating the salaries of the three staffers per alderman. Nonetheless, a reduction in the number of wards would not necessarily lead to the elimination of all ward staff because each ward office would have to double the number of constituents it serves. But there can certainly be some reduction in duplicative roles when Aldermen staffs are combined.

Streamlining government by eradicating wasteful and inefficient levels of government, and getting rid of redundant or unnecessary positions within the bureaucracy, is the most compelling argument for reducing the size of the city council. For example, on top of the savings from the elimination of aldermanic and staff salaries, combining wards would lead to a change in the streets and sanitation budget. Currently, a ward superintendent who receives an average of $90,000 a year runs each ward. They manage garbage collection, snow removal, and the blue cart recycling program within their wards, and only within their wards. Even if it would make more sense for a garbage truck to continue its pick up down, say, a one way street, ward boundaries—not common sense or efficiency—dictate the route.

The rapids get their few dispersals, contact cards, parkers, anovs, and they call it a night while every beat car and the wagons run our butts off all night job to job.

don't like the situation? work a rapid. while you are bellied up to a bar getting your drunk on, we are still here at work. if you like the early start then stfu you whiner. want the crap that comes along at 2300-0001 hrs., then get on a rapid or can it. just like a kid who wants the toy his friend has but does'nt know how to get it without crying. we are doing what we are told by our BOSS. it's callled a JOB baby.

Why does rahm have a COMMANDER and daley also have a commander (another title same pay), why can't a sergeant handle this simple valet detail?
