Short Notice on Recommendatons

The extremely short turn-around (three days total) on the exempt "nominations" tell us two things:
  • People in the know already got tipped off to have their packages ready to go;

  • City Hall and 35th Street already know exactly who they're going to pick - everything else is a sham.
And to those few defenders of the exempt member who doesn't meet the current standards that the next set of gold stars have to measure up to, are you even listening to yourselves? "He's a nice guy," or "He's qualified"? The fact remains that he isn't qualified based on the current requirements presented by G-Mac and your excuses continue to undermine the system by creating "exceptions" instead of making everyone play by the rules.

We might as well have a popularity contest for a "People's Choice" exempt.

It's like joining a country club. You first have to be sponsored by a member (gold star). It is then voted on by the general membership (collective group of gold stars) for a final vote. Once approved, you pay your initiation fee (list of house mice you must take) and you are a member, with yearly dues (people you are told to take care of time and time again).

A little of topic, but Rick Elmer put in his papers this week. For those of you who don't know him he is one of the better bosses on the south side and a true gentleman. Enjoy yourself Rick-you deserve it.

Look - we all know that politics rules. The shit is not going to change and if anything, will be worse under Mr. MacKnockle Head. That being said, we got a great commander in the deuce. Why do we have to single him out when there are so many incompetent and pretentious exempts out there. No one is saying that there should be exceptions, but the reality is that the system is not legit. But once in a while a great leader emerges, despite the fucked up system. We got that in the 2nd district, and that is why we will defend our commander. It is hard to find people who are fair - we have someone who is both fair and humble. All we ask is to not single him out. All the other exempts made it with clout, but many of them are assholes. Let's focus on them and leave the 2nd district commander alone --------PLEASE!

I say let McNutty switch out exempts in certain spots.
Let's really see who's qualified. Let's move Murphy to
007, and move Carothers into Murphy's spot. Some people have posted here that Murphy has worked in
007 before as a patrolman--if that's true, then he
knows what problems exist there. And since he returned to the Dept. as a Deputy Chief, completely
bypassing the rank of Commander, it will give the
Dept. a chance to see if he's worth his Gold star.
I think it would be a great example of McNutty's vow
to place black & white exempts in 'non-traditional'
commands all across the city.

If THEY are eliminating exempt positions such as ADS, Traffic, Vice, Narcotics, Public Trans, and One of the First Deputy spots, why go thru this whole dog and pony show. How many current exempts are in the shit??

The Commander in 021 is the first time I have seen a legit promotion. He bothers no one, does his job. Encourages the troops to do theirs and actually cares about the officers. And now he has decided to put his papers in. This is ridiculous! This constant turmoil and shuffling of units, names of units, fake titles, who is in charge of who...has become the downfall of this department. You cannot just change names hoping that will fix the problem. And why are they f*****g with something that isn't broke?

8/18/2011 07:37:00 PM
The Cdr has OVER 30 YEARS! Let him put his papers in you narcissistic ass. It’s not about you and what you want. He did his time, he has the time in rank, he'll do well when it comes to the $ in his retirement. No, it’s not "ridiculous"; his did time, and now is leaving on his terms. Wish the man well with all of that new found free time he's about to have.

That is one of the problems in this department now, it has become all about me. What that one has that I don't. The young kids on the job that have done nothing, other than in their own minds, and want everything. Not only want everything but demanding everything.

The short version is that there are no established rules, just the whim of the day. As for Fred Waller, he is the exception to the rule, the rule that they HAVE to make a black Commander no matter his qualifications.

If there is any argument to be made about a merit push, he would be the poster boy. Waller was an exceptional P.O.. When he became a supervisor, he was well respected and people followed his lead and they continue to do so as he leads 002. Great job Fred.

Very few have put in for Commander and some were talked into it. That 's a sad commentary. Some were eager and you will know the personality when they are made. Those guys wrote their own letters.

This is the Department we have. I will continue to do the best I can in it. It's not what I hoped for, but I refuse to give up on it.

Another day another day of nothing getting done! Yep i am a high school educated KMA club member, now before the advent of the smarter (some not all) coppers the bullshit that was laid on us is being exposed via many different outlets, and frankly the bullshit is causing the very lives of coppers (down what 3-4 THOUSAND), the lives of taxpaying citizens to be in jeopardy! Some of the college yes are referred to as "hair gels" that's OK but many took this job because of a tough job market and have some regrets but again they are tech savvy and intelligent! Now with rahm announcing a new pol to ask citizens of Chicago if they want to see police and fire cut 15%, the new police will be looking and digging deeper to see what many of the elected goofs are made up? The past and future will be exposed because all of this hypocrisy,is over the top! ENOUGH!!!

As for by-passing commander, so what. Several former superintendents went from deputy-chief straight to Supe.

Now go get Carothers sone activity.

We will continue to harp until the system becomes fair and equitable for everyone, not just the politically connected. Since we don't see that happening anytime soon, we will continue to call it like we see it. The entire exempt staff are a bunch of yes men and women, bought and paid for, they haven't earned it, it was given.

Sometimes people are TOLD to put in for an exempt job or they may not be able to keep their Tact Lieutenants' spot or their CO spot.

If they say no, they may be screwing themselves down the road as far as their clout is concerned.

Screwing themselves? How? Won't they still be Lt's? On the watch? working regular hours, getting OT and taking furlo when it's scheduled?

Yea, right. Screwing themselves. I think not.

I worked with Dep Murphy for his brief stint in 007 in the early 90's. Guess what? he was no ball of fire. He did nothing different than any other cop in this city hasn't done. Well 20 years later I'am still in 007. Does this mean I deserve to be promoted just because I worked in 007(Hell no). Save the he worked in 007 he deserved it bullshit.

Sounds like the same conditions that were met here at the UCPD earlier this year, when an online promotional exam signup was announced; No one applied! Reason? It's pretty well known here that the second in command here (who has a heavy hand in such matters) is a manic depressive lunatic. After no one applied, Doty presumed to mount a massive call-you-at-home-and-bully-you campaign in an attempt to stir up interest for those willing to have their careers here totally at the mercy of this nutjob.
We've been on an employment roller coaster here
ever since; the test has been called off, three watch commanders have been fired for a variety of bullshit reasons (supervisors here have no union protections
at all, and the U of C will not allow them to unionize)
and now the test is back on the table. We can't imagine whose heart is in it when you consider Doty has fired just about all of more worthwhile people we have here. Many days here we have more exempts doing nothing in our station than we have
bodies on the streets. Recently, two brand new fully loaded Tahoes here have been delivered; it seems we are about to get two more new, highly paid UCPD executives here, and their new chariots await them.
We hope that when they get here that they learn the layout of the campus boundaries immediately. As the numbers of patrolmen have dropped noticeably in the past year, we will likely need these two new
'bosses' as backup when it hits the fan out here.

Where have YOU been over the last 10 years??

Every district's manpower compliment has been revised downward nearly 200+ officers...

If 350 - 400+ officers have been retiring (not counting loa, disability, resignations and terminations) on average and only 100 to 150 hires a year or less in that time, a shortage of 3k to 4k or more is dead on target...

Fuck these Marxist, Socialist communist, corrupt jagoff politicians. This is the same shit they pulled with the Security Specialist online application. Everybody in the know (Daley, Burkes, Rahms and whoever else was working as a paid chauffer)had their shit together and were told the time frame when the online application opened and closed. I have one question to both Joe Ferguson and our Champion United States Attorney Patrick Fitzgerald. Where the fuck are you guys hiding? You are the only hope for the hardworking middle class taxpayer's of the city. Maybe the two of you could get together and turn this rotton cesspool we live in into a city where corruption is rewarded with jail time, federal jail time. How bout it boys, how bout one for the taxpayers? It's nice to dream for justice and think there is someone left who really cares about justice. It's about the only thing that keeps us going. I just don't know how much longer the common taxpayer can put up with this shit.
