Commander Rumors
So McJersey wants applications for commander from interested captains and lieutenants who have a year in grade.
Does that mean anyone not having a year in grade will be declared ineligible and demoted? Because there's at least one commander right now who didn't even have 90 days as a lieutenant before being promoted and if you looked at his actual promotion date, is still almost two months short of having a single year in grade as lieutenant. But he's connected, so does that count?
And as he's restricting it to lieutenant and captain, does that mean no more Keatings, no more Cronins, no more civilians as exempts?
We noticed that they already had to amend the order once seeing as how they "forgot" to include certain commanders from even having a recommendation. So the cronies nominate 2 more cronies and the other Lieutennts and Captains are ass out. At least Weiss allowed all Lt's and Captains to nominate themselves and put in a resume. Under this system a commander for example can nominate 2 people and they do not have to work directly under his command. So the most qualified person may not have a chance unless he is the commanders guy or the person the commander is told to nominate. Something stinks about this process......
Why do the the applicants have to be nominated by a commander or chief? To eliminate some real qualified person that is capable of doing the job out of the running thats why. Mac better stop this one before they pull the wool over his eyes. He is not going to see the best qualified, he is going to see the best clouted. Sounds to me like the Captains and Lieutenants unions should say something about this. A 10 plus year captain may not get nominated but a 1 year clouted wonder will in his place. The Chitago way !!!!

Got told NO to work tact again, huh?
I want to be promoted to exempt rank.
I want to work more hours than my Captains and Lieutenants and not be reimbursed for my time.
I want to be criticized by the public, the media, the reverands and my bosses for decisions I make.
I want to be told who I can nominate for meritorious promotions.
I want to be told that I must control overtime and when I look at the printouts from Finance I learn that every captain, lieutenant and some sergeants who work under me are better compensated.
I am informed that I cannot take any time off during the summer or the holidays.
The only individuals who want to be promoted to an exempt position are really on an ego trip and really should be sent for a psych exam!

Off topic...taser shortage in the 25 Th district? No just officers to scare to POLICE without a taser to intimidate would be offenders!! At any given day you could see civilian dressed officers riding three deep with at least two officers carrying a taser. Then you have beat officers hiding them in their lockers because they want to make sure they have a taser at the start of their tour. This is a huge safety issue which needs to be brought to light before someone gets hurt. !!!
As a Lt I'll tell you I used to have a desire for a command. That desire withered several years ago among the politicization of the Department, the surplus promotion of the dimwitted and the rise of arrogance among many of the over-promoted and some of the take care of me police. As of late, I have no desire to be nominated, chosen, asked or even thought of for command. There are at best two or three desirable command positions, but even those are less desirable with most of the current executive staff of the Department and under the present political climate. The Superintendent has already shown that he will do as he is told by the politicians; that is disheartening. He is a cop so it’s even more distressing that he panders to their whims, and in addition to that, he seems to be the kind of boss who chooses to rule by fear rather than function as a team. There is a clear indicator that he plans to dump commanders who don’t submit to his and his followers ridicule. We are about to embark on a slippery slope with many cast-offs falling by the wayside as this regime seeks followers who buy into the scheme. The bad thing, some good people who might otherwise make good commanders will be tossed aside until we hit bottom, again. The good thing, once we get there hopefully the bottom will consume the top and a new day may dawn. As for me, I’m quite content working with you guys. You are some of the hardest working guys and girls I know, and among you is some true talent, some pure courage and some actual heroes. Yes, sometimes you guys are a pain in the ass! Yes, sometimes I am too, as are the sergeants in between. But in spite of those rare occasions, I’m perpetually proud of the work that gets done. I know, I know, who’s working, who’s doing anything? There are a few commanders that are worth taking care of, they are doing their best and in the long run are in fact looking out for you. Some are not but others are. For those few, the numbers game needs to get played, just to keep the heat off of them. But, the bottom line, there is a reason we are cops; we like it AND there are good people who need us. Those are the people to work for. I know and you know that when the situation presents itself, there are those occasions when you are proud to do what is right, what is just and what needs to get done. In between those occasions, let’s just get done what needs to get done and have a little fun while we do it. I’ll skip the command selection and together we’ll figure out how to solve that world’s problems, get through it all and each go home in one piece.
It will never be an above board process. If you notice everytime this application thing starts the disclaimer at the end that says the Supt can still promote "anyone" at his discretion. Which means just like the last time, you don't even have to be on the list of eligible applicants to get promoted! That was a crock if I ever saw it.
here is how you do it. get on your knees, and face east. now swear to be a faithful member of the democratic party. even though you will be forced to eat dirt, the humilation will subside when you get the first paycheck. dont worry about ,stand for something or go down for everything. when you pass another officer in the hall look down.

the reining champion in the battle of Midway is the commissioner Erin O'Donnell,since she took 2 fully equipped marked Chicago police vehicles away from the C.O. Lt. Schmitz female at the airport. Seems Erin was enraged that her city take home car was taken from her that she drove to and from work and used it for other things,and that her buddy Bob who orders the vehicles decided to order a take home car for himself,and his was taken away. Now these 2 low mileage Police vehicles sit hidden in and out building at the airport as the commissioner and bob will soon being using these as take home cars. For us in the AMC (repair) building we have enough problems trying to keep up with the repairs and doing something like this is asinine. Friend works on 51st and wentworth in that garage,we were talking and he was telling me how short the city is of CPD "pool cars," amazing but true.
Now we hear that the Lt at Midway is in for a commanders position, even though she deserves it will the commissioner at Midway block it? This Erin is so crazy the guys cut the grass on airport airfield and she bitched it was not "up to her specifications" micro-manager extraordinaire. But we can only hope that soon she will be resigning, he connections are now finally gone and the rein of stupidity will be over. Oh and erin if your reading this why do you have 2 vehicles assigned to you at work? A new Impala and a $60,000 Toyota Highlander? I thought several months back (still under the Daley Admin.) that The Ray O'Herron Company had stopped doing business with the City because the city was about $550k in arrears to them.
Ray O'Herron was the middle man for the tazers from Tazer International. They supllied the new ones and the parts to repair the old.

And now he has decided to put his papers in. This is ridiculous! This constant turmoil and shuffling of units, names of units, fake titles, who is in charge of who...has become the downfall of this department. You cannot just change names hoping that will fix the problem. And why are they f*****g with something that isn't broke?

As a recent retired LT, to an on duty LT, I’m sure you would agree:

The numbers game must be totally HONEST. No phone book contact cards or curfews. DOPW & SUB, etc, must be real. Cameras will fuck the working PO. No one can / will back a PO a with false report.

And, if you do not have a concern about the clarity and quality of his judgement, just look at the person he chose as a partner. Lt. MS is one mean, jealousy-fueled, Brooklyn-born lawyer who is an expert at back-stabbing, loud-mouthing and causing trouble. Crotty's next step should be retirement, not another undeserved, clout promotion.

The Commander in 021 is the first time I have seen a legit promotion. He bothers no one, does his job. Encourages the troops to do theirs and actually cares about the officers. And now he has decided to put his papers in. This is ridiculous! This constant turmoil and shuffling of units, names of units, fake titles, who is in charge of who...has become the downfall of this department. You cannot just change names hoping that will fix the problem. And why are they f*****g with something that isn't broke?

He did his time, he has the time in rank, he'll do well when it comes to the $ in his retirement. No, it’s not "ridiculous"; his did time, and now is leaving on his terms. Yeah, it's a bit hokey, but the young guys and gals who work in that absolutely dangerous armpit of society have earned the right to annoint themselves with any name that makes them feel good! So get over it!
