The news just keeps getting better for the governor:
- More than 1,500 Illinois workers will lose their jobs over the next two months as companies like Lowe's reshuffle operations, according to state filings made public Tuesday.
The filings were part of the monthly Worker Adjustment and Retraining Notification (WARN) report compiled by the Illinois Department of Commerce and Economic Opportunity.
Lowe's Homes Centers Inc. said it will idle 194 workers at two big box home-improvement stores it recently closed on N. Barrington Rd. in Schaumburg and S. Randall Rd. in Elgin.

And yet when Quim jacked up the taxes, he HIRED a few hundred State workers because as we all know, when you tax the shit out of producers, they just reach into their other pocket and pay it.

That's why they're putting the CORPORATE state tax increase bill back on the table for review.
So much for the "we're all in this together" stuff.
Are you ready for OUR tax increase to be made permanent and the corporate state income tax to be rolled back using the tired old line "it's necessary and it will create jobs" b.s.? Stay tuned.
Oh and meanwhile Quinn is "not letting the crisis go to waste" either as he is now using it as a tool to bust out some unions and do some mass state layoffs.
So we will still lose tax revenue.
Each one of these layoffs is like throwing another log on the G8/NATO protest fire isn't it?
I wonder if the USPS will shut down and layoff their 3/4 of a million workers before may 2012. Right now it's not looking so good. That will be like throwing gasoline on the flames.

I just read an article on Yahoo that said the Michigan governor is capping cash welfare payments at 4 years. Same article said Illinois caps cash payments at 5 years. WTF? Where's the evidence of that?

Where I live I could go to Menards, Home Depot or Lowe's.
Menards usually wins because of lower prices and being outside the city for lower sales taxes.
I started shopping on line and am saving big money,Wisconsin has no tolls or tax on food.
But yet he is still hiring politician friends and their families as rewards for getting his dumbass elected!
Following the implosion of the housing bubble, I'm surprised that more of these stores didn't close.

I wonder why Quinn, or any other state politician, never mentions any layoffs or even closing the Department of Central Management Services. That entire department does nothing for the tax payers, provides no services, and simply jack up the cost of doing business with the state. If they ceased to exist tomorrow, would anyone notice? I don't think so. That place is the patronage, clout baby cesspool of state government. Yet when things get bad, the pols want to lay off cops, corrections and mental health workers without even considering these useless fucks. Disgusting.
Our economy is in the Shitter. Probably for at least a few more years. So many people are out of work the state is just taxing the shit out of us to make up for lost tax dollars from those who use to have jobs. The entire world is going through the same thing. The rich get richer and the poor get...well you know. Our greedy politicians will survive because they control most of the government jobs. They will take care of themselves and their families. The rest of us are just shark bait.
So many here think a Chicago casino will help solve some of our financial problems. Any money coming out of a casino here will be eaten up by favored politicians and connected contractors. The city would receive little if any money. Anyway the Mighty Mayor is just going to piss it away on his pet projects.

A Lowes spokesperson said “there is simply not enough volume in today’s market to have the number of stores we have in the immediate area.”
The closings come on the same day that Lowe’s is reporting that second quarter earnings fell short of expectations and predicting that third quarter sales will also be flat.
All Quinn needs is a squirting flower, floppy shoes, and a big red nose, then all will know what he truly is.
Quinn is bluffing about the layoffs. He knows what that would do to his chances of re-election. Even someone as dumb as Quinn knows who put him in office and who could put someone else in if he crossed them.
