The London Riots prove, yet again, that one of the principal roles of the Metropolitan Police (“The Met”) in London is to be the whipping post of politicians pursuing an agenda. I believe you can send him books, but magazines have to come from the publisher. He wanted a mag on camping last I heard from him.
You can't send anything else like a care package or pens or anything.
He had asked for a book, "Life in 2050" or something like that, which I sent him.
He also likes police books. Maybe send him some true crime.
At the very least, send him a letter or a card. It's hot and nasty down there and he sounded down in his last letter.

IAD should be staffed with retired Detectives with super clean records, who won't play the politics/clout/phone-call game.

Man opens fire at Brooklyn parade, toll rises to 46 shot since Saturday morning
Gunfire erupted today near the massive West Indian Day Parade in Brooklyn -- not far from where Mayor Bloomberg was marching -- as the entire city reeled from a epidemic of shootings over the past two days.
By noon today, a total of 46 people had been shot in the city since Saturday morning, authorities said.
At just before noon, a gunman fired into the air several blocks away from the start of the West Indian Day Parade route in Crown Heights before hopping into a cab and fleeing.
Somewhere in this world is a soldier defending our rights and freedoms. Somewhere out there is a soldier who doesn't get to see his or her family for months, even years at a time.
