From the comments:
  • City Hall announced the only new CPD Academy class for 2011 starts Oct 17th and consists of only 84 recruits.
Anyone have a link to this supposed story?

No longer true. This was recently put on hold. The class will prob start in 2012. -also theres talk of assigning po's to assist with property cases at areas. They would do dicks work except major cases. Just a discussion at this point by Supt. Detective promotions on hold til at least AFTER G8/Nato summit. List may get pulled down. -35th st guy

If you don't have clout, don't accept a position with this bullshit department! Due to our flawed complaint process you will become damaged goods no other law enforcement agency will want to touch! You have been warned.

let see, we lose 30-40 each month so being generous with the numbers in 3 months time we'll start subtracting the numbers of officers on the job. add that number to the already couple thousand we're short. you aint fooling nobody.

Rahm has already stated he wants to reduce the size of cpd by attrition. Read the news stories from last week. Crime is down and he will relocate officers to high crime areas. Then reduce (layoff) the current size of the department by retirement. What happened to the teachers is nothing compared to what he will do to the CPD. Listen to what Ald beale is proposing.

How soon after the recruits get hired that the bids will open for Public Transportation? With 24 years on I should finally get my retirement spot.

If there's any truth to this post of P.O.'s working property cases, DO NOT DO IT! If true, this is yet another way the city's attempting to circumvent the contract and avoid promoting. If they do attempt this, file a grievance and fill out an out of grade slip and get paid D-2a if you're backed into a corner. Hopefully the union will jump all over this, cuz this is just another Rahm/Mc Jagbag ploy to defeat the union.

Don't forget that Rahm is closing the doors on CTA Special Employment. Rahm took the CTA's money to fund new recruits and they still aren't going in the Academy.

Remember that next time you feel that thug sizing you up on the train. Rahm doesn't want Officers working their day off at straight time ( a bargain for the City). We won't be there to help.

===================================
So what does that mean. They budgeted 13,500 each year for the last 4 and the CPD hasn't had that many in at least that long. They are alway over budgeted in the numbers so that someone can steal money later for something else and say it was in the city budget.

Hey remember this is CHICAGO, nothing has changed but the names of the people stealing the money.
But one thing is the same, they are all DemocRATS

Thats right. I say the CPD will probably lose 600 men BEFORE these 84 get out of the academy. So it will be down more then 3000 before we get more.

Should be 2,084 just to bring us up to strength. Won't happen. More window dressing to make it look like Rahm is doing something. With 500 or more retiring every year that 84 is nothing. The public is still in a coma and think Richie Daley is still cornholing them. Wake up folks the Mighty Midget is now stroking you!

Undermanned and Outgunned is NOT a smart way to run a city!

Glad we don't have the olympics!

Perhaps the city's financial position is even worse than has been admitted to.

the cost of propping up all the pension plans is a huge number. many of these plans have invested in things of very dubious quality that may not be worth anywhere near what they are currently booked at.

the current crop of city employees may well have to take one in the shorts so that existing and near term retirees actually get their pensions.

it is somewhat like what has been going on with social security for a while. it is basically the same kind of Ponzi scheme as public pensions are and is no any more sustainable.

84 is better than zero.

it appears the city has decided to reduce the size of the CPD to something it can afford. it has been going on for some time now without being admitted to. rahm is at least being more or less honest that it is being downsized.

NYPD's Detective Bureau Organization

How the Detective Bureau is Organized

Four Detective Boroughs - Brooklyn, the Bronx, Manhattan and Queens - oversees 73 precinct squads.

Local squad detectives work closely with patrol officers in their precincts to provide an immediate investigative response to crimes and incidents. (Patrol Borough Staten Island supervises its own Detective Operations, which oversees detective squads in each of that borough's three police precincts).

Specialized borough squads - homicide, robbery and special victims - bolster the efforts of local squads, especially by identifying and investigating pattern crimes. The Detective Bureau also staffs Robbery Apprehension Modules, known as RAMs, in each precinct; these units are charged with further reducing crimes of forcible theft.

Five specialized Detective Bureau divisions provide investigators in the field with a vast and diverse array of technical expertise. There is an unlimited combination of specialized units that will assist in any homicide or other major investigation.

This is what is coming. We are going to go to the NYPD style. Wait and see.
