Domestic Death
A 15-year-old boy was being questioned after a Chicago police officer was found dead in a crawlspace in her home, authorities said today.
The officer was found a little before noon in the 8800 block of South Wallace Street, according to police News Affairs [...].The death was believed to be domestic-related, he said. The officer apparently had been beaten.
No word on district of assignment at this point. Prayers and sympathies only in this thread.

They should put this right on DCFS. This Officer tried to have this little jagoff removed the right way, but DCFS said he wasn't a ward of the state. This little jagoff lied on the Officer several times and had her stripped. If she had her weapon maybe she could of defended herself if the City didn't inventory her shit.

Scary. I have an aunt & uncle who took in my cousin's 2 boys who were born with drugs in their systems. They were in their 70's when they took on an infant & toddler. Even their own children told them to let the state handle them. Both boys have emotional and learning problems and their dead-beat dad is nowhere in sight. Only with the help of my cousin, who moved back in their house saved them from what we all thought would end tragically.

The stripping may have resulted directly in her very death. This officer was not listened to and was unable to defend herself from a deranged grandson who savagely beat her to death.
So very sad and once again nobody will be held accountable.

Worked with Hester when I first made Sgt. She was the desk officer in 003 on the watch. Nice person. Quiet. Another tragedy. R.I.P. Officer.

Knew Hester years ago when I think we were both working in the duece. She had just gotten custody of her grandkids. . . not even sure if this one was born yet or may have been just an infant. I remember she was broke and trying to figure out how to build onto her house to make room for all these kids. I seem to recall that her daughter was in the streets though Hester seemed to be doing everything she could to help her. In the end all she could do was take the kids.
Mostly, I think Hester worked inside on days so she could be home with the kids when they got out of school. There should be some older ones by now.
I don't think this is the first time she was stripped over these kids. Seem to recall hearing the same thing six or seven years ago.
This is one more example of the Dept being heavy handed when it should be providing assistance to police families in trouble.

One would expect some commentary or reaction from our beloved leader, Superintendent Garry McCarthy.
If memory serves me correctly, anytime an on-duty or off-duty police officer was murdered; the Superintendent of Police always expressed condolences and provided a press conference. Doesn't the life of a PO mean anything in Chicago anymore?

How sad, how very sad. This incident is an indictment of the entire system. It is not possible for most people to control an out of control 15-16 years old. There is no place to put them, no residential homes in this state. There is no way you can force them into drug rehab if they do not want to go. There is little or no mental health available without lots of private insurance. In fact, there is little or no halp for single parents, mostly women, in these situations. Anyone who has been through something like this knows the truth. you just wait and pray until the little bastard hits 18 and you can through them out. This officer tried to do the right thing, with no help from the state, and it cost her life.

Too bad for this Grandma and police officer. Obvious this 15 year old was beyond help. I give her credit for trying to salvage the lives of her Grand children. The Grandson knew what he was doing. Perhaps this young lad will get "adopted" by some of the inmates at the jail house. Perhaps they can teach him some manners. And probably a few other painful things.

What a tragic incident, I'm curious if the department stripped the officer and inventoried the weapon on what basis? Was it a criminal investigation? If not and strictly administrative what grounds does the city have to take the weapon, citizens in Chicago ate permitted to own guns inside their home for protection. Had she of had hers maybe she would be here today. I will keep her in my prayers
Remember IPRA can't strip an officer only CPD has that authority. The exempt responsible for stripping her holds sole responsibility, IPRA only makes recommendations

I was at 376 with her and read her file . IPRA investigator didnt like her and so she kept this thing going for 4 years . There was also a problem with the wrong serial number being put on the inv sheet and report and so they tried to say she had an unregistered handgun but in fact it is hers and registered. This will all surface but it needs to be pushed NOW!
IAD , IPRA , see what happens when you say its not punishment when ou are stripped? The hell its not!
