I was told that they were going to train extra guys for the G8 in May and then after it is over, all of the guys that made it to SWAT from this tryout will be dumped back to whatever district the Dept wants because your services will no longer be needed. Dont say I didnt warn you.

For anyone attending the Mobile Field Force Operations class at UIC. Be advised that a bureaucratic tactician, in his or her infinite wisdom, has decided that all participants, including instructors, should be unarmed. Also, the facility is unsecured. Anyone can walking into the facility at any given time. I'm not sure why this training isn't being conducted at a secured police facility. Kinda of funny that they would have a "law enforcement sensitive" training open to the public and at the home of Bill Ayers and other radical student groups. Just remember, shit happens anywhere, even on a university campus. Just remember...Va Tech, Univ of Iowa and Univ of Texas. So, do what I did and make sure you have that back up weapon on you or accessible.
L.A. has the best SWAT team. Chicago should follow their testing program. The physical test is the same across the boards. No special rate for females.
Unless you took the initiative to go to a SWAT school and earned certificates don't waste your time. Most SWAT schools range from $1000-$2500 and are 5-7 day courses.
This was the only legit test on this department but like all things is now tainted. Your best bet was to have taken it the first time. Since then you best believe that the current SWAT guys all ready know who they want. I personally know of 3 coppers who completed that extra SWAT school and now I know why. So just realize you might shoot better, be more fit, think you did well on the SWAT test but wait...THESE officers have that extra training and will be accepted.
Once again, the current SWAT team knows who they want and just as long as those officers pass, it's there's. I hope I don't deter people from taking it but I did want to make these facts known.
Haha what a fucking joke. We cut blue shirts but now we need more swat officers. I honestly don't know what chicago swat does, unlike other major cities where swat teams do search warrant on a regular basis. Chicago swat teams waste ammo. Now this is nothing against some of the guys on swat, my criticism is with their leadership. Some of the guys on swat are among the best officers in the city including plenty of clout baby's, but their are some of those anywhere. I'm sure that go getter tactical barbie will definitely be trying out, and if she fails, you know the lawsuits will be next.

Wow, the county is doomed with these guys there. 3M has no business doing anything in law enforcement, it's his family connections that got him there.
who would want to do anything for this department after the incident with the fire captain the other day. if you go to swat, your life will be swat. you will miss days off, birthdays, anniversaries, recitals, plays. your family will never see you because you have sacrificed all your being to be a swat operator so that one day an exempt member who was never a cop will give you an ultimatum which will dangle your earned spot in front of you. to have an administration like this make us the laughing stock of the country. shame on the politicians that pose as police administrators. your main job as a boss is to make sure your troops are treated well. not to threaten them with illegal action when some politico commits a crime against them. fuck all the cpd brass. none of them were ever the police and never will be. they have been taken care of their whole career. they dont appreciate all the hard work officers put in to advance in the job they do. do you know how many officers pay for training out of pocket, on their own time. a lot of officers sacrifice too much for this shit department.

This is true. They are training more SWAT guys to handle less lethal weapons for the G8/NATO mess. SWAT will handle beanbag, stingball guns, teargas deployment etc. etc.
A bit OT, but speaking of G8, who was the know nothing Lt speaking at the TLO meeting? She was horrible and knew nothing about what she was talking about. If this is what the department has preparing for G8 we are screwed. This woman's clout must be really big judging by her lack of everything.
So that means that the spots have already been filled.
Chicago SWAT?? Ya right. The troops are probably pretty good, in spite of the system. But YOU KNOW the supervisors are just merit hack playboys with NO balls. Just hope you never need them, because those white shirts aren't about to jeopardize their careers to save your ass.

One Male and one female are getting spots. B.F. from 011(was an HBT guy back in the day) and yes I know its cliched to say it on this site but K.B. aka tactical barbie is getting a spot... AS far as people being groomed for the test, if you ask for help, you'll receive it. Everyone still has to pass the shooting and physical. There's no way around that hurdle. Bosses tried that shit last time and were sorely disappointed when their kid failed.
Now train for success or cry like a baby...the choice is yours but don't slam those who care, try and put forth a vailant effort. It's not for everyone. Those who try and fail are still light years ahead of those who just sit there and complain.

A coworker of mine says she had the displeasure of waiting for a bus downtown yesterday with a few of the smelly wannabe hippies of OC. Said they were gloating on how easy it was to shut down a bunch of computers at police stations and make the ones at city hall go haywire also. Said something along the lines of 'they haven't seen anything yet', which she interpreted as them already having done something bad. I told her to report it, but she didn't want to be looked at like she was crazy when she went to the station house. I didn't see any of this on the news, but I also didn't see any story on the news about the fire captain beating up one of your SCUBA officers. Is there any truth to this? Cyberterrorism and electronic warfare is some scary stuff, hope you guys keep your wits about you. Stay safe.

This case of the 14 year old girl that interrupted a burglary and paid for it with a violent death SCREAMS OUT for the death penalty. I feel as though I should call you Michael. The last time I saw you was with your Dad, when you were very, very young. I met your Dad when I was selected to represent the Chicago Police Department and speak at a meeting of National State Representatives. I was very anxious, being a newly promoted Sergeant. Your Dad was very kind and encouraging. He even asked me if I was interested in politics. Thank God I knew my limitations.
I am writing because of my grave concern over House Bill 3827, which was introduced by Representative Tom Cross - a Republican. I am very angry that this person - who has nothing to do with Chicago, it's Police, Fire or any other city worker, would dare to suggest that the composition of the various pension boards be changed, giving the majority control over to Mayor Emanuel (or any other mayor for that matter). I'm sure you know that the problems with our pensions is not due to a lack of contributions by the members. If the name Vaneko sounds familiar, it is emblematic of the undue influence the past mayor was able to exert without a majority. I'm certain you also know that any underfunding is totally due to the City failing to meet it's obligation.
Your Father was a champion for everything Police. He was our best friend in Springfield. This was in no small part to the fact that he was the "real police," and knew just what that profession demanded of it's members - he lived it too. He would have been outraged at this unbelievable attempt by Cross to interfere with our pension. My colleagues are very angry and I venture to say that their wrath with carry over to future elections for those who support this outrage. It is clear that Cross must be getting something in return from Chicago Politicians. What that might be I guess we will have to wait to find out. One thing I can say that Mr. Cross' future activities will be watched very closely by Chicago Police Officers and Firefighters.
I am not concerned with the stand you will take. You are the son of a COP before you are a politician. I would ask that you encourage your many colleagues to say NO to house bill 3827.
I spent 41 years with the Chicago Police Department. I never once wrote or called a politician on any issue. However, I am extremely upset with a lot of things that are going on in this Country and this State. House Bill 3827 is only one example of outright political interference with other people's money. Mr. Cross has stated in his pat responses, that "the majority of money in these pension funds is taxpayer money." Well, I take issue with that entire concept. Truly, any money spent by government comes from taxpayers. However, Police, Firefighters and other City workers are taxpayers as well and I would venture to say that we probably pay more State and City taxes than half of the rest of the residents of this State and City. I also take issue with the term "taxpayer money." Once that money was paid into the pension fund, it no longer belonged to the taxpayers - in the same way that money to heat city hall paid to ComEd belongs to "taxpayers." Mr. Cross seems a fraud, and I am ashamed that he calls him self a Republican. After all there are very few Republicans a Chicago resident can vote for. (thank God for you).
Anyway Sir, please do whatever you can to kill this Bill

But just remember the process is completely legit, doing that for one sgt had absolutely no impact on him getting on swat. As long as guys like AK and LM are still in swat it will never be legit. TRUE, the computers/printers/internet (basically everything connected to and ran by our dept. computers) were out in every district in Area 4 yesterday for all of 3rd watch (afternoon shift), not sure how long the outage lasted into the night. No way to access prisoner information, do name checks, run vehicle information...NOTHING. Something that minor brought the area and all those districts affected to a standstill and really throws a fly in the ointment. Our technicians did allude to the fact that City Hall also lost all their computers, but didn't elaborate further (like everything else crooked and E'fd-up in Chicago, they wanted to keep it quiet from the public). If this is a sign of things to come, all I can say is that the G8/NATO is going to have the propensity for some really, really bad times.

I did 33yrs.on the CPD. It was the greatest experience of my life.I Started off in the Fillmore, and worked SOG which became part of Bureau of Field Tactical Services under the Capt. Joseph McCarthy. Went back to a district when the unit was dumped. Had no Clout. I saw more injustices in the dept. and the court system to fill a book. You cannot let that stuff spoil your day. Make some good close comrades on the job, and keep them close. Keep yourself healthy. Stay true to your family, and keep your reputation honest, and trustworthy. Yes,it's corny stuff, but in the end, that's all you can hope for.

This is true. They are training more SWAT guys to handle less lethal weapons for the G8/NATO mess. SWAT will handle beanbag, stingball guns, teargas deployment etc. etc

This was the only legit test on this department but like all things is now tainted. Your best bet was to have taken it the first time. Since then you best believe that the current SWAT guys all ready know who they want. I personally know of 3 coppers who completed that extra SWAT school and now I know why. So just realize you might shoot better, be more fit, think you did well on the SWAT test but wait...THESE officers have that extra training and will be accepted.
Once again, the current SWAT team knows who they want and just as long as those officers pass, it's there's. I hope I don't deter people from taking it but I did want to make these facts known.

Actually, the job in 019 back in 1986 caused a big shake up in HBT program because of Kennedy. There was an HBT LT on scene (now deceased, but a great boss) who gave the green light two different times, but Kennedy wanted to negotiate instead of killing the SOB. After this job, alot of the HBT guys quit because of the pussy call by Kennedy. I know, cus I was one of the guys who left the program. Our feeling was, if you want to negotiate it out in a normal situation, thats fine. But when one of our brothers in blue goes down, all bets are off, all negotiations are done. Green light is the only way to go. I still go down Lill st on the anniversary. RIP Richard Clark. We tried to do the right thing that day.
JUST TAKE THE TEST. In the early 90's there was a terrible anomaly and a bunch of qualified people made sergeant in error. You never know. The Lord works in mysterious ways.

OC had nothing to do with the computer shut down. It was all caused by JL himself. One day the powers that be will realize he does not have a clue.
fyi change of topic. can't be passive. lawyers in cpd DK are running the show... after action reports from seatle to toronto have proven that when ordered by command structure initial passive enforcement results in loss of property and more IODs than if initial show of force occurs. fuck the press and the invaders. We have to rally the commerce and industry sectors (unfortunately)

ok, if your different test also includes dragging a 180 person by yourself, thats fine. This isn't about equity its about ability. I don't care of you are man, a woman, white black hispanic, purple or green. If you can pull me out of a hot LZ by yourself, then you are qualified. Unfortunately, the seperate test won't hold up in that situation. One test, one standard across the board. You can either do it, or you can't. Give credit where credit is due. Stop using initials. It who Officer George Corso who grabbed a wagon, drove it out onto the street after telling Area Six Deputy Chief "Careful Carl Dobrich" to get out of his way or he was going to have tire tracks across his chest and tried to resuce Richie Clark. Officer Clark was already dead by then but no one knew that. The CPD brass was perfectly willing and did leave Officer Clark lieing out on the street. It's Officers like George Corso that make me proud to be a member of this Police Department. George IIRC, moved onto a foot post in either 023 or 024. Not sure where he is today or if he is even alive but he remains a giant in my eyes, all 5'09 or so of him. And yes it's true, HBT had several chances to take the offender out in this incident but Kennedy, fearing that the public would say that we murdered him because he had shot a Chicago Police Officer, would not give the snipers the green light. There were several times that the offender exposed himself in a window or came onto the back porch but Kennedy said no. This was AFTER he had shot Officer Clark and then even murdered his landlords dog and threw it out the window. Alot of HBT guys quit the team out of disgust after that one. And now his son Chris is a Commander. I hope that if the occasion ever arises again, that Chris does not follow in his daddies footsteps.
Look up what "Leave of Absence" means, then come back and talk your BS. He's stepped away for a moment but will no doubt return once that spot dries up.

Thank you for your service and if we had a Joe McCarthy running this dept now, it would be the best dept in the world. Every cop who bitches and whines would never think of it, because they would never have anything to bitch and whine about. Joe McCarthy was a great man and Boss!
I just wish he didn't smoke those Grenieder cigars all the time, they stunk up the place.
SWAT isn t like any other unit, you have to earn the right to wear that uniform. Everyone on the team is a professional at what they do. We have one of the best teams around.
We should not have to take any management positions. It's a close run unit and everyone needs to know that the person next to them earned it the same way they did.
