Nice Story

  • Chicago police say a car thief disrupted an Iowa couple's wedding preparations on Thursday when the couple's car — with the wedding dress in the trunk — was stolen from the Lakeview neighborhood.

West side police officers recovered the dress early Saturday morning in West Garfield Park after they stopped the car because it appeared suspicious, police said.

Police said the couple, in town for their wedding Saturday morning, parked the car about 8 p.m. Thursday night. By Friday morning, it was gone.

A sharp eye on the west side located the car shortly thereafter and the steal was recovered along with the wedding dress. The media is running with this one during the holiday season. While the involved officers might just call it "routine," it meant a lot to the now married couple and hopefully, their memories of Chicago include kind thoughts and words for the CPD.

The only thing that would have made this story magical is if the cop who caught the crooks was found wearing the wedding dress at 5 am on Rush street.

It was reported on WBBM radio that the suspect has been arrested for 30 felonies with nine convictions. I guess he is 90 years old since he served all that time in IDOC for those nine felony convictions.

SCC the bigger news here is just how far the mutts will travel to kill you, rob you, or steal from you and yours. A car stolen from Lakeview is recovered in 011. A paroled burglar from Country Club Hiils and two friends accost a sergeants sister-in-law at Osceola and Touhy. A deranged animal from 006 eviscerates a fourteen-year-old girl in her home in Indian Head Park. Thank God we still have policemen in some districts who still do their job and aren't afraid of being sued, jammed-up, or being the next Cozzi, etc. Too bad we don't have very many in my district.

GMAC should put on the wedding dress and wear it to the next COMPSTAT meeting. Thefts of wedding dresses are down 600% this year...I can read the headlines now.

Lt JA. Something tells me he was the attention-starved middle child in his family. This guy just can't get enough of himself. He IS the SECOND WATCH W/C, is he not? I guess there's not enough going on in 011 on days to notify the media about when you're bored, it's 1700 hours, and you're STILL at work meddling in redundant and pointless paperwork that can wait til tomorrow. Your half-assed sense of humor is about your only redeeming quality, Lieutenant. Great work .... FIRST WATCH.

Sort of on-topic, but one of my neighbors in our condo complex was awakened recently by a light shining in her third floor BR window. It was a CPD car; the officers were checking out the balconies and decks (most ground-accessible) with their searchlight. This is in the alley west of Spaulding across from Hibbard school)

Not sure if they were looking for someone who fled or just looking for lurkers, but we agreed it was nice to have you folks looking out for potential trouble.

She wasn't pissed

Heard an Area 4 Sgt on broadcast radio saying:

we usually dont return stolen cars to the owners, but we made an exception in this case...????

WTF?? Do we let the ERPS Lt take them and sell them???

Nice story as far as the CPD goes, go old fashioned police work and attention to duty.
BUT... the thief, arrested 28 times, probably living in the government subisized senior citizen homes at 1601 S Racine, gets another misdemeanor arrest for TRESPASS TO VEHICLE.
Want to make this story even nicer?
CUT OFF HIS WELFARE ENTITLEMENTS AND CHARGE HIM WITH THE FELONY...States Attty Alvarez, or aren't there enough cots over at Cook Co. Jail ?
What a system we have here in Chicago, is PSMV even in the criminal code anymore?
I hope the bride & groom consider this come election time.

Let me begin by saying that both Mac and I have no idea how this story has morphed into what it is now. Thinking back over the arrests that I have made in my very young 10 year career, I never would have guessed that a nonsense CTTV would land me on news. When they called me to come down 011 for a press conference, I can tell you I was more than apprehensive,
(hell I thought days was screwing with me- and was pissed they woke me up) but then I realized; with all the politicians, and many citizens trying to make us out to be over compensated, lazy villains. I figured any positive press for us is good! So, we’ll deal with the ribbing at roll call and play along with the sensationalized story the media has concocted, because we know that most all of us go out, do our job daily, are never thanked or recognized and continue to be under-appreciated. Thanks to all the officers out there doing their job, making a real difference.

Another nice story - Cops follow dogs bloody footprints to owners door and arrested her for 2 charges of animal cruelty. Thank you very much for taking the time and having the foresight to track the dog, instead of staying in a warm car and clearing the call with the animal was GOA. Animals don't deserve such abuse. Too bad it wasn't a k9 handler that did the tracking. Maybe he could have accidentally had the dog give the arrestee a love bite. Thanks again for a good job guys. 99% of you are great. I'm sorry when a bad story comes out that tarnishes all of your reps, but thank you again for a job well done.
