Bankers' Hours

  • Detroit, which has one of the highest crime rates of large American cities, plans to close its police stations to the public for 16 hours a day -- including the critical overnight hours -- as the cash-strapped city struggles to slash costs.

Public-facing desks at the eight stations that represent the eight precincts or districts of the Detroit Police Department will be closed at 4 p.m. every day and reopen the next morning at 8 a.m. starting on Monday. It means residents could have a harder time immediately finding face-to-face help from the police during key hours of the day.

The moves are expected to lead to "virtual precincts" as the police department plans to redeploy desk-bound officers to more time on the streets during the affected hours.

Hey, we've already got POD cameras acting as "virtual police officers." "Virtual precincts" actually fits right in with the "less is more" concept.

Don't worry. The alderman is armed and ready to deploy his private police to help you.

It's all good.

The growing perception on the streets is that the NRA is right.

That is there is going to be no police -- corporations are taking away the tax funding to support them. Therefore it's everyman for themselves and may the lord help those that are unarmed.

Meanwhile...

It's funny too..remember Rahm's speech about matching education with the needs of the corporations and what is needed are welders?

Maybe everyone can get a welders job after the Chicago NATO riots of 2012 eh?

Ha.. get ready to throw you college degrees in the trash when they start the layoffs after the G8 is over.

When they don't need you / can't afford you anymore. You get to get back to school now.

Time to forget all about that we want tech-savy multi-lingual blah, blah, blah bullshit. We need welders damn it!

Ralm want to put you and your families on welfare food stamps with $18/hour welder jobs.

Anyways..Guess what?

The company Rahm was preaching about needing those 600 welders and mechanics? Well they were in the aviation industry.

And guess what else?

This just in: Boeing to close Wichita plant with 2160 jobs

----

Get it? Anyone that followed Rahms advice and took out a loan for community college to obtain the training of the 21st century that is needed better hurry. Hurry man, hurry. You're competing with the Wichita layoffs and chances are why should they hire you when they can get someone with experience? Better hurry and get there before Wichita shows up otherwise you just blew a few grand for nothing.

It's going to get much uglier.

This is yet another harbinger of what the CPD awaits. You can't close these impromptu homeless shelters! The powers-that-be have designated police lobbies as recognized warming centers.

Although it would be nice to come down to inform the W.C. that yet another savage needs to be RWOC'd thanks to the ineptitude that is counsel at the CCSAO without having to tap dance around the maze of homeless bastards emitting that plethora of contagious diseases.

Oh, wait. What was I thinking?! I'm the one that needs to be moved under the auspices of 'departmental streamlining' and 'fiscal renaissance'. Those bums that don't have it currently will soon have more seniority in 011/A4 than most coppers that work here. Ironically, but not unbelievably, most are smarter than our current crop of Bossholes, but then again this shouldn't come as a shock to anybody that's been around for awhile.

Maybe the administration can push these pissbums through a quick 8 hour class to teach them how to run the desk...kinda like they did to the Sergeants* to teach them how to be Lieutenants and Captains without the extra dough.

* Sergeants take note for your grievances: newly promoted Lieutenants have WEEKS of schooling prior to being dumped into districts. How can you newly acquired 'Station Managers' be expected to perform all those additional duties without the proper training ???

At least in Detroit you're legally allowed to carry a firearm at all times to protect yourself(well, except convicted felons, but they don't care about the law anyway).

Also, Detroit proper is down to like 700,000 residents, tops, and a significant percentage of them are below the poverty line, so it's not like the affluent & middle class (you know, people who count) are affected by this.

I grew up in suburban Detroit & worked downtown until moving here a few years back, and I must say, I always felt far more secure in that city than I do in large parts of this one. Especially at night. At least in Detroit, we kept our ghetto thugs confined to certain areas. Here, it's like the city encourages them to take over the good parts of town, which is just asinine & backwards.

I'm sure it hasn't changed since I was there in the early 90's on 1st watch. Those firemen in that house are punks. Not starting a CPD/CFD thing; we both have goofs on the job. Personal experience with that house explains it all. Like the time we had to escort the CFD LT's mistress of the drive way of the house after the hero firemen called her in twice as a suspicious person! Hey, this is good.

Did you notice the anti-coal-fired power plant posters showing the sick kid -- the big expensive four-color process jobs -- on the sides of all the city bus shelters? Who paid for those?

Now that the federal legislation has come into effect, State Line Generating in Indiana is already down, and we will lose Crawford and our other coal plant here, as well as close to 40 others nationwide, and this just for starters. Go out on a clear summer day, perfect blue sky, and all you can see is a thin tannish plume off those stacks, run as clean and professional as it comes. Those are SKILLED ENGINEERS in there who want to SAVE MONEY and keep the EPA away from the door. Only thing cleaner is no burn at all.

Time to dump your BNSF and NS and other railroad stocks -- they won't know where to put all the thousands of empty hugh-capacity modern aluminum coal hoppers they've been using to feed Com Ed.

A lot of sidetrack space is already full of empty, unneeded "spine cars" that haul containers -- look at the string of them along the Eisenhower from Austin Avenue all the way past Harlem in Forest Park, been there at least two years...go look at the empty containers themselves stacked to the skies, one spot is in Forest View just west of Mt. Auburn cemetery between there and the Canal.

You are gonna see this reflected in your electric bill in a BIG way -- and now the trucks are starting to roll on "Smart Grid," which will also cost a fortune - you are going to have a "TALKING ELECTRIC METER" in your house to tell you exactly how much you're paying for power every minute.

First the rates will about double, and then this thing will save you maybe $10.00 per month off that.

I'm nonplussed.
