Fine Rude People
Lounging on the New York subway with feet up on the seats was costly to lazy riders fined by the city last year, police said on Tuesday.
More than 7,000 riders on New York City subways were ticketed last year for putting feet on the seats or otherwise taking up too much space, under a law that makes bad manners a crime.
The offenses, which ranged from putting a bag on a seat to blocking a door to stretching out for a nap, carry $50 fines, police said.
Of course, enforcement means bringing Mass Transit up to strength, and that means getting bodies from Districts since the city isn't hiring.

I see lots of fights on the trains between police and the public if/when transit officers start issuing these kinds of tickets. The public is being taxed and fined to death in this city as it is. Hope the cops assigned to do this are issued tasers, they'll need them.

Thumbing your nose at the whole asinine idea of trying to fine people for ignorance or lack of social skills. Such people shouldn't be allowed on, at or near anything resembling public transportation.

The Blue Line trains always have people with bags on the seat next to them.
Just close the fucking CTA down and let everybody walk. Get us all in shape. And the city won't have to hand out any pay raises to CTA workers.
Good Luck collecting those $50.00 fines from the "Shit-bums" who ride and sleep on our trains.

I think it would be a great idea. Just another tool to run someone's name and lock them up. Per Baby G, there is no such thing as a pippy arrest on the CTA.
Mass Transit?? What the fuck do they do?? I never see them. Somebody tell me where does mass transit deploy, what do they do and why are they invisible cause the only uniform cops I see are the beat p.o.'s and special employment and dont try to bullshit me either cause the last time I checked and I did arrests for most crime and in particular violent crime on the cta are made by the beat officers and special employment. Turnstyle jumping, littering and loitering does not count.
Why don’t we fine liberals for being irrational, the city would make a fortune and the rest of us normal people wouldn’t have to pay taxes anymore.
In my generation, this activity was considered rude. Today, if you tried to correct this type of activity you would be considered a racists.
So what's the big deal if I don;t go to school today, or come fifteen minuets late ? So what, if I eat on the "EL" ?

The city could balance its budget just by ticketing people playing their goddamn ipods loud enough for the whole car to hear. It's been downhill for enforcement of CTA rules (no eating? Hah! I've lost track of the number of chicken and rib bones I've had to kick out from under my feet) since the trains went to one-operator many years ago. But it's gotten worse lately with the ipods. A single cop riding one train could easily write as many tickets as there are cars.
Blue and Orange lines would be problems because of the tourists coming in from the airports with bags. Still, the police I see at Clark/Lake in the subway could write 3-5 of these per ride by just hopping trains between Grand/Milwaukee and Washington and strolling a car or two. No additional manpower needed.
When will these idiot bosses realize that a happy police department can more than pay for itself and generate a lot of revenue?
How about leaving chicken bones or peanut shells on the seats or the floor? Seen that too many times to count.
does a "person of size" get a ticket ? sone airlines make passengers buy an extra seat if they are huge.
Yea don't write anything that brings the city money... your pension will still be there.

Nice attitude.
Please be thoughtful when dealing with the usual cta bus/train rider. They may not have been raised in a home with chairs, only milk crates and the buckets they beat on. Do not fine them, just allow them to have the extra room. Its everyones fault they are like this. We hold them down/back.... Its our fault they act out and appear rude.
BTW, if one feels the need to haul off and sucker punch you(or rob you), just get up and apologize to them. You probably did something to them to bring them to this.
"Inside" isnt sensitive to their needs. Also, downtown belongs to "them" too. Why cant they take over and enjoy what Daley has made soo beautiful with his "millions wasted a year" planter floral displays? The merchandise and Iphones they steal are due to them for past and present wrong doings.

u must be one of those legend in their own mind/hairgels who thinks they are the only working police in the city.IF u had any time on the job u would know that mass trnst and special come out of the same building.And the reason u only see special out there is because they have more people working per watch then mass.Mass is down to about maybe 85 not counting their tac team.Again stop bitching about other units and start worring about how we re going to keep out pension.

Leave the tourists alone. The homegrown assholes who stretch out over two seats need to be fined, not tourists who come here to visit and help out our local economy.
I sit here ALONE on my CTA Ride.
I am surrounded by "PEOPLE". Who are they ? They are loud. They are eating. Are they laughing at me, or someone, or something else ? Will I get through this okay ? Will they allow me to leave ? Who will I call for help ? There is no one here that looks as if they would help me. I know, I will close my eyes and pray.

This is the phenomenon of Anarcho-Tyranny: the criminal classes will get away with everything because the law can no control them (anarchy), while the middle class will live under tighter and tighter laws as a bankrupt and corrupt gov't squeezes them for more money (tyranny).
This is just like that stupid plan to legalize dope. Dope is already legal in Crook Co. (fine only), and they can't even manage that.
Riding just about any El in Chicago brings back fond memories of family dinners at the Ground Round as a youngster. Only the floor at the G.R. wasn't littered with empty liquor bottles, narcotics-related paraphernalia, Cheetos bags and used prophylactics, but I digress. Where else could one go to dine and actually be encouraged to litter the floor with the shells of the complimentary peanuts?
Do these places still exist? I couldn't see them currently operating in the Shitty, as surely the machine would bankrupt them with fees and fines associated with cleanliness 'issues'. Ahhh!!! Memories of a much more innocent time.

It does not matter how many people you assign to Mass Transit. It always was and remains a do nothing unit. As soon as they make their arrest for the night, they manage to duck. Many of them take their personal cars to their stations and hide out. Nothing new here.

This just in... Since we are soo cash strapped the Mayor in his infinite wisdom and will start ANOVing people for 1. being dumb,
2. Being Ugly. This should help keep the city out of financial shortcomings. If it doesnt they'll brainstorm to see what else they can ANOV people for.
The answer is that NYPD is given reign to be the police, our department yeah is taking away everything away from us. Next you know we will be asking if they want fries with their happy meal and what do they want to drink (soda, milk and cookies) as the offender sits to be processed for an arrest.
Does anyone else see a problem with Citing Rude people besides me?
We'd have to start with City Workers and Cops and CFD first.
