Eagles May Scuttle Range
- The Chicago Police Department’s plans to build a shooting range in a wetlands area on the Far Southeast side may have run into an insurmountable obstacle: a majestic flying object.
Bald eagles have been discovered nesting at the proposed site along the Calumet River. [...], wildlife enthusiasts are hoping the eagles can halt the project.
Advice to Garry McCarthy - start looking at a new site, maybe some land in Englewood where the chances of hurting some innocent birds are nonexistent.

none of the birds in Englewood are innocent or majestic! Problem solved!
I suggest they use some old land in the 009th district. First, it is more central for all officers in the city to access; hogwash in 004 is too far south for north siders, even some south siders. There is plenty of vacant land, some of it owned by the city, that can be used with no people living anywhere near, no businesses, plenty of parking and plenty of good places to eat if you need to be there the whole day or week for training. In all honesty, any true American has a special place in his heart for the bald eagle. We should treat them as the cows get treated in India. We have a choice...move to another location. I never liked the idea of having a range in hogwash. No bald eagles in all the vacant land in 009...just a few bald crack heads that won't even know a riffle is going off.
Englewood , yard bird a delicious treat. Not found in Englewood, grass birds squirrels rabbits. Just pit bulls and rockweilers
Funny, it shows how an agenda of tree huggers will get advanced, no matter what the common sense dictates. The last straw for them was the American Eagle? Pathetic. ...and sad. There is no fighting this. Guess we will just have to line up and register, oops I'm sorry, "title" our firearms. Lambs to the slaughter.
We gotta protect the eagles. At least they give us something nice to look at. That's a hell of a lot more than the asswipes that take and take and destroy when there's nothing left.
Yeah, no squirrels, rats, rabbits, roaches, or mice . A shooting range in Englewood may also drop the violence there with heavily-armed officers and civvies laying down the law.
is the whole country this nuts or just this state and a couple more like cali and ny?
Build the range next door to Farrakhan's place. Use eminent domain to condemn the property.
If these morons really cared about birds they would be saying something about those green energy wind mills that chew up a few million birds a year. Oh but they must protest a range that might kill a bird and ignore the real holocaust.
Brilliant thinking……..
Oh well we cannot shoot anyway, why not pass out squirt guns, like the post above the deck is stacked thanks to all the liberal appointments to the bench, and all the corruption!
I hate the fuckin' Eagles, man!
The range=Another Masters and Hamilton Do nothing project
Hey - bald eagles ARE majestic.
DO NOT ENDANGER THEM.
I concur, use Englewood. Having more police presence at a range might bring down crime a bit.
If nothing else, you have more people ready to respond to a 10-1.
I am glad the birds won.
What's more important?
They'll find somewhere else for a range.
I'd rather see a bald eagle flying and if you wouldn't, I feel sorry for your dumb ass.
bueller! Bueller! you there?
Again and again anything to help out police is scuttled! Where is rahmbo thought the dictator would do something! Naw real quiet like except when it comes to cutting contractual provisions!
Eagle my ass, it's probably a red tailed hawk. They are all over the place, however, they do keep the rats and mice under control.
More PC bullshit.

Too Funny!
009 vacant land and central
Who gives a shit!
They will fly away as soon as the sound of gunfire is heard! The birds are NOT stupid!
It is this City that is run by incompetents!
I reside in Hegewisch. There are alot of gems out here...Wolf lake, Powderhorn Lake, future nature center on 33 acres at 129th and Torrence, Lake Calumet, etc. On my many hikes and trail biking in this area, I've seen coyotes, deer, beavers, turtles, swans, groundhogs, herons, owls, etc, thru the many 'wild' and natural areas around here. And now bald eagles.

........................................ And ground still contaminated by known carcinogens , heavy metals , paint byproducts
I can't help myself. I gotta throw in the old joke about Hogwash. If a married man and a woman from Hogwash get a divorce, are they still brother and sister?
Can't build on the West Side either. Behind CFD Engine 96's quarters there is a Parrot nest on a comed transformer. There are seriously 50-75 PARROTS that call the west side home. Bright green Parrots, not parakeets or such. Seriously. I guess they nest by the transformer to stay warm during winter.
Monk Parakeet=invasive species which are not protected. There are nests all over the city. First was by The former Mayor Harold Washington's apartment building in Hyde Park. Lots of them in the 004th District.
How about building it by 130th sludge pits or former Sherwin Williams property
So the Department finally does something that will actually benefit us and half of the comments here are bithing? You think maybe some of these posts were planted by those who don't want to see us trainined or go home at the end of the day? This is a chance to get some real training that every other department in the contry takes for granted. And you guys bitch about it. Nice going.
Sounds like you guys need a good indoor range with a built-in shoot house. I'm certain there are some centrally-located, abandoned/underutilized buildings that could be converted. Some of them might even be big enough to have a 100 yard rifle range.
Just sayin'. I like eagles, too. The Eagles, not so much.
