Memorial Mass

Remembering Eric Solorio:
  • Amelia Solorio, mother of fallen Officer Eric Solorio #13609, killed on February 12, 2006, would like to invite the members of the disbanded Targeted Response Unit (Unit 253) and all Chicago Police Department members to a Memorial Mass for Eric.

The mass will be held on February 14 at 7:00pm at Holy Cross/ Immaculate Heart of Mary Parish, 4541 South Wood Street in Chicago
A serious question for our readers. Where do the Memorial/Mourning Stars that are represented on the Unit Guidons go once a Unit is disbanded? TRU doesn't exist anymore, but Officer Solorio's sacrifice is still real. Same for the old Task Force Units, SOG/SOS, countless old district stations and in short order, at least a few more Districts.

I'll never forget you Eric. One of the nicest guys anybody could have ever encountered. You could'nt run into him without him either making you laugh or telling you something useful you did not know. He is somebody I truly think about from day to day. I feel bad for the people that never got to meet such a beautiful soul. God bless you brother.......

Hopefully they go to the family. But then again, this is the Chicago Police Department, some asshole boss will probably have them in a closet at 35th street for years untill an Officer "uncovers" them.

Ask what happend just before St Jude's Parade '11...

This has happened in the past when districts were absorbed into other districts. Remember, this concept of 25 Districts was developed in the 1980's. So his mourning star should be placed on the Dist. of occurance as it exists today. And his courage and sacrifice, must never be forgotten. Those who served in that disbanded Unit will forever have a bond and pride because they volunteered to fight the good cause. They will be like veterans of Vietnam or some other War that nobody now wants to acknowledge.

Eric was the only child of his parents marriage. Though he had half-siblings, Mrs.Solorio lost her only child. If any of you have a chance to stop by, please do. It will mean the world to her.

Good Morning all. SCC you have posed an excellent question, one that some of us that were in TRU have asked ourselves. An idea has been proposed by me to Cmdr. Ryan, the final commander of TRU, that prior to the St. Jude march we transfer Eric's gold star battle streamer from the old TRU guidon to the guidon of the Special Functions Group. TRU was under SFG when it was in existence, so I thought it appropriate for Eric's streamer to go there. As the St. Jude march draws closer I will ensure that this gets done and that everyone who wants to be there knows about it.

Formerly of TRU

God rest his soul and may perpetual light shine upon him.

I agree! What a time we had in the academy with Eric "Peacheater" lol. I feel the tears building in me every time I look at his picture or read anything about him. We are coming up on our ten year anniversary and reunion (hopefully) and it just won't be the same without him. RIP brother.

The stars go on the guidon of the district of occurence

That changes because the boundries and number of districts change so its not an exact sciend.

Also Id bet that the ribbons arent always quite up to date, again its not an exact science

On a related topic, the former Commander of 018 decided to honor all our members KIA regardless of the ever-changing rules of boundary/unit determination.
He investigated all L.O.D. deaths, then, utilizing the present day 018 boundaries, had photos of every member that was killed within the 018 District, regardless of assignmen placed in a memorial on the second floor of 018.
A class act.
