Rahm Panders

  • Mayor Rahm Emanuel today said he wants state lawmakers to approve a statewide handgun registry.

The request immediately ran into staunch opposition in Springfield, where gun control issues are often as much about geography as partisanship.Rep. Brandon Phelps, who has championed efforts to pass a concealed weapons bill in Illinois, said the mayor’s office called him Thursday morning to let him know the registration proposal would be introduced.

“Number 1, my first response was I don’t know why you’re trying to do this statewide because we don’t want your policies on us downstate,” said Phelps, a Southern Illinois Democrat from Harrisburg. “Number. 2, it’s never going to work. They’re trying to go after criminals. They’re never going to register their guns. They won’t pay the fee. “

Phelps called Emanuel’s initiative a “slap in the face of every law-abiding gun owner.”

The mayor said requiring handgun owners to register particular weapons would reduce the flow of illegal guns into Chicago from around the state by making it easier for police to figure out where they came from.
It isn't law abiding citizens whose guns are being used in crimes, so once again, instead of enforcing the laws on the books, increasing the penalties on criminals, and actually housing the lawbreakers in prisons, Rahm advocates further penalties on the people who merely want to be able to defend themselves in the absence of police.

A gang banger isn't about to register his gun. And that gun isn't going to be in any database so "police can figure out where they came from." The last figures we saw from the FBI said something under 10% of guns used in crimes were actually stolen from private citizens. The figure may have been as low as 5%. How about those couple of hundred guns that the boys from Englewood stole from gun shops across the midwest - those were all registered, right?

Watch the pension legislation boys and girls, this has all the hallmarks of a classic Rahm misdirection play. But be sure you click on the NRA and ISRA links on the right hand side of the page. No reason we can't have gun rights protected as we fight the pension battles, too.

Any traction on the bill removing Chicago from the State of Illinois yet?

Downstate's gotta be becoming increasingly tired of Rahm by now.

Might need one to get the other if this idiot continues to carry on as he has.

It's too hot right now.

Rahm will wait for the dust to settle, (like the coward that he is), and when he sees which way the political winds are blowing, he'll jump in, most likely denouncing the police, and exonerating the poor little boy!

After all, there are photos of them together!

After what happened in New Orleans when the police wanted the populace to turn in their guns after the hurricane........well let's just say I will never register my firearms and neither will any other sane person.

Amen! The middle class taxpayers trying to make it the right way are being used as tools. The middle class is seen as being weak and ponzi's who's money can be easily taken away because some political clown says that it is necessary and oh let's not forget it's for the childreeennn.

Yeah another registry..like serial numbers will not be tampered with or ballistic signatures modified. Don't be a tool. The city is going bust and this is just another attempted money grab before it all goes to hell.

We are quickly approaching the point where the tax revenue from the shovel ready poverty wage jobs here will not cover the interest that the city needs to pay on the borrowed money from bond sales.

It is important to contact our out of town, down state relatives and retirees. Have them contact their state reps and senators that they don't want anything this Chicago bully wants. Maybe they will claim it's just $2.00 per gun remember the $2.00 per paycheck medical insurance. It will be $25-100 within your lifetime. Don't believe anything a Democrat says.

And yes this may be a misdirection for cutting our pensions.

Think about it, a politician can retire with several pensions, and millions in campaign funds. The retired campaign funds are the best deferred-comp plan possible. All that free money, just pay the taxes on it as they draw it out.

And they say we are greedy.

Why does Emanuel continue to push this fight? Didn't violating the rights of gun owners just cost the City a ton of money this week?

Something tells me shrewd Rahm has no clue how much the sensible downstaters HATE Chicago.

The ISP couldn't keep up with FOID card (another useless program) applications or renewals to the point where the program ground to a halt.

Rahm is now proposing a more onerous program, is it genius or clueless?

Try and do something constructive, maybe like go on a crash course to prepare our city for the debacle he invited here.

Hey Rahm - clean up Chicago before you come telling people in the state to register their guns.

Get rid of your police security team as well as Daley's if you think this state is so safe we don't need CC and instead have to register firearms - and probably with a fee per gun to create more patronage jobs for your relatives.

Better clean up North Michigan Avenue from all the crime that is never reported before I come down and spend any money.

And to the Media trolls that read this - you are spineless lemmings because you look the other way. Stop acting like sex-hungry groupies to the politician
"celebrities" and start reporting.

Rahm knows that law abiding citizens that own guns do not commit crimes. They are the ones that will pay the registration fees, take gun handling classes, etc. He knows that the law abiding citizens are the ones from which he can extract money legally with his silly laws and rules...

As far as the illegal guns that the gangbangers have, if he starts coming down on them, he loses the reverend support and the votes that the reverends take to the polling places to vote for scum like Rahm.

Someday, Chicago will be history and known as Detroit 2.

As for you wonderful police officers, please watch your backs and come home safely to your family...

Good citizens of Chicago. Read the "1938 German Weapons Act" drafted by Hitler. The wording is essentially the same as the gun registry proposed and advocated by our Democrat mayor Rahm.

SCC, I am hoping that you can somehow make this post and or the topic of speed cameras a sticky. Speed cameras. I ,as most of the residents of Chicago (or at least those with a brain) are against these speed cameras. We see them for what they are- an obvious attempt at extorting more money from the middle class taxpayer. I know that the Mayors position is that "it's for the children" but we all know that that is a scam. If they were "for the children" they would not be operating all over the city, on holidays, weekends or at night.

I live in the 41st ward. Today I called my Alderman and told one of her staff emembers how incensed her constituents are over this matter. Jason thanked me for calling and encouraged all other residents who are as equally concerned about this or any other matter, to call the Aldermans office and let them know so that she may vote the wishes of her constituents. So here it is. I say call, call, call. Send an email, a letter. Let her know how upset we are about this. And this applies to residents of other wards as well, not simply the 41st. A VOTE WILL BE COMING UP IN THE NEAR FUTURE ABOUT THIS ISSUE. Call them and let them know how you feel.

Attention brothers in blue and plain clothes I am exhorting you all to never, ever register any police aux weapon. Never give the city Gestapo inspired politicians the chance to take away your constitutional right to bear arms. Never think IAD would forget about your weapons during an investigation. They are a different breed who would be more than willing to aid in allowing the city to confiscate your weapons. Keep your weapons concealed, really concealed.

Amendment II of the Constitution states, "A well regulated militia, being necessary to the security of a free state, the right of the people to keep and bear arms, SHALL NOT BE INFRINGED."

Americans, we must fight to keep the Constitution, our rights and our freedoms.

Fight oboma and emanuel, who would be king of his kingdom. Stop the jackboots from marching into OUR country for our guns, and for us.

One Life

If we can save one life it is worth it our Governor said about the school cameras about to complicate life in Chicago.perhaps he missed the number of kids who were killed by falling TV sets recently. In the sprite of protecting the children I propose a Illinois Television Owners Card or ITOC , better yet to protect us even more why not register all TV sets in the state. It would be a snap install a quarter meter device on every set. Then sell the rights to a private company, just like the parking meters.God I am a genius.

With the deaths due to televisions, I think the the raccoon should set it up with our smart governor and outlaw tv's. Chicago is different from the rest of the state, and tv's in chicago don't fall the same as the ones from any where else in the state so chicago needs a special law to fix this problem. Sorta the same as the cameras.

The politicians know they've lost that war.

They will pass laws to make it look like they're doing something about "gun violence" because they know there's nothing they can do against the people who actually inflict the violence.

So what's the politicians' only choice? To control the only people that they actually CAN control; the law-abiding citizen.
