THIS is the Way to Do It

  • Utah prosecutors have reluctantly allowed a condemned killer to seek execution by firing squad rather than by lethal injection, saying they want to avoid further delays in putting him to death.

The request by Michael Archuleta, 49, convicted of the 1988 slaying of a college student, follows recent talks among state lawmakers and criminal justice officials about possibly returning to firing squads as an execution option in light of the current shortage of lethal-injection drugs.

If Archuleta gets his way, he would ultimately become only the fourth to be executed by shooting in the United States -- all of them in Utah -- since the U.S. Supreme Court reinstated capital punishment in 1976. The last was in June 2010.

Firing squad is arguably more humane than lethal injection. No dosages to mess up. Legal injection its just easier for other people to watch.

In China the official method of execution is a bullet to the back of the head. Then they send a bill for the cost of the bullet to the victim’s family and you better believe they pay it too. I say victim because over there you’re likely to be executed just for visiting a website like this one.

I think it’s great that we won’t have to suffer this murdering bastard living one second longer then we have to but I find myself disturbed about capital punishment in general being administrated by a government that brands military vets and libertarians as domestic terrorists.

Let’s hope Utah doesn’t give those communists in Washington any ideas.

We give people a choice at Burger King. We give them a choice for their cable tv. Why not your execution. Electric chair...firing squad...gas chamber...Jump off the Willis Tower. Life is about choices. Death should be the same. If someone is put to death let them decide how they want to go.

Firing squad is quick, effective, instantly lethal and painless. It is all done in a fraction of an instant. Before the word FIRE has been heard by all present the subject is meeting his maker.

I think that anyone who has warranted being put to death, should be put to death slowly and painfully. As they are taking their final 100 or so last breaths, they should be thinking, "OMG, if I knew THIS was going to happen, I NEVER would have been a criminal!"

This coward wants a firing squad so his death will be instantaneous and painless? Well, I think the firing squad should be armed with small gauge shotguns filled with bird shot and standing about 50 feet away. He'll have to endure volley after volley of bird shot before he even comes close to death, and in excruciating pain the whole way.

Now THAT, my friend, is a death penalty!

You better have some gym rats there to pick up the body, though, because after THAT execution he'll have enough lead in him to weigh 500 pounds!

Back in the day I sent a letter to Utah officials volunteering for the firing squad that executed Gary Gilmore. I received a letter back stating thank you, but I had to be a resident and on the voting rolls of Utah to be considered. I still have the letter. Talk about closure, let murder victims' families be part of the firing squad. That closure would be better than any counseling session.

Lethal injection and firing squad is the same thing. One involves the injection of chemicals and the other the injection of lead. Give this killer what he wants and save the taxpayers having to feed clothe and care for him.

I'm abt 52% anti-DP and 48% pro, for a lot of mixed reasons. But it seems to me that the Russian method of a bullet fired into the base of the brain at an upward angle to exit the forehead is about as fast and foolproof as it can get.

So this murderer got to live 24 years AFTER a guilty verdict?
24 years of hot meals, t.v., access to recreation room and library, and a place to lay his head at nite.
Meanwhile, the college student victim lays silently in a grave.
A travesty to say the least.
Now que the the " no death penalty protesters "...lights, cameras, action!

OT: I think dueling should make a come back. 2 men enter only 1 leaves, like the Thunderdome. I find that to be somewhat civilized considering the savagery of it, with a touch of honor added.

That would take some balls, unlike the way the savages here shoot at each other cowardly. 10 paces turn and shoot.

I arrested a woman for domestic battery and CDTV. Very uncooperative so I gave her a full face dose of pepper spray. As she sat there in the street crying she said "if I knew you were going to mace me I never would have done this."

She sat overnight and apparently has behaved like a hillbilly bitch for a long time. I was the only police officer to ever use any type of force on her. She was shocked. That is the new tactic, the instant they signal non-compliance they get zapped with the Taser or sprayed with pepper spray.

The instant.

I do not beg them for 10 minutes yelling "this time I am not kidding." No, instantly. Fuck them. No "pretty please and mother may I""

That's a load of bullshit. Blanks for rifles on a firing squad? No way, all live ammo, if you are not prepared to pull the trigger on a live round you need another line of work.

I know woefully little about firearms, but I always figured that the person who fires a blank would know it by the lessened recoil, and that the reason for the blank was to give all members of the firing squad plausible deniability if they wanted it.

Never mind rifles, use shotguns.

Low volocity rounds with steel shot from a distance....

the condemned would be in front of a large industrial electro-magnet and peppered with the steel shot...

then slowly turn up the magnet and the steel shot is slowly drawn through...
