Cops Injured in Crash

  • Two Chicago police officers were taken to John H. Stroger, Jr. Hospital of Cook County after they were injured in a car accident about 10:40 p.m. Wednesday.

The officers were heading to a call with their "emergency equipment" engaged, Chicago Police News Affairs [...] said.

A Chrysler car failed to yield the right of way and the cop car struck the Chrysler going through an intersection at 29th and Halsted streets, he said.

Get well soon officers.

First of all I pray for their quick and complete recovery.
Secondly accidents will always happen but citizens disregard for emergency vehicles, for police and the continued decimation of this once premier police department I can not help but believe plays into this and many other recent incidents.
Get well soon officers.

Apparently Garry was riding around with the deputy in 011 and was PISSED. The kicker. He didn't see any police in any of the bullshit zones. Garry then proceeded to tear Commander Washington a new one about the lack of police presence. We were told as much in 3rd watch rollcall, which got a good laugh. That's what happens after years of mass retirements with no new hires. Hey, Garry. If you want to see more police on the street YOU HAVE TO ACTUALLY HIRE POLICE. (fart noise)

I'll bet they were going to a call where there where no speed, red light, or POS-POD cams.

You know once we get more cameras install there will be no more high speed chases with lights and sirens blaring.

We'll just mail out the fines and the court dates and if they don't pay or show-up we will mail out handcuffs...and if they don't put them on and turn themselves in we will put a hold on the deadbeats state income tax refunds!!!

And if they still don't pay then we'll mail them an electronic monitoring device and demand they put that on!

That'll fix 'em!

Compstats will measure crime by how much a district is spending on postage and we will hirer clouted no-bid contracted Hollywood friends to review videos to rate and review evidence.

At the end of each year promotions will be handed out by members of the motion picture academy gild -- awards with many diverse "best of" categories will be handed out.

It's a win-win really.

The post office will no longer need to layoff thousands of mailmen in Chicago and this will create the much needed new jobs for the city.

Oh yeah..and we'll all get ponies and some will get unicorns that even krap peppermint candy too!

BTW, does anyone know what the target date is for the new untied shoe laces cameras for around the schools?

I was thinking.

Studies have shown that this is a multimillion dollar revenue stream for the city with only about 6% of the school children that have untied shoes being caught and fined.

Each and every year Chicago sends large numbers of school children to the E/R's who have tripped and fallen as a result of this negligent behavior. It must be obliterated and I was wondering when we are going to start saving the children.

Yeah we know it's a hassle.

But if just one more child ties his shoes, just one, and grows up to be a sixteen year-old honor student gun toting gang banger then isn't it worth it?

Once we get it all up and rolling for around the schools and parks we should consider making it a city-wide ordinance for all the peoples of the sanctuary city.

I hope they put them in soon. We need the money.

Who really had the right of way? Even with lights and sirens you must make sure intersection is clear before blowing through.

To the 2:28 douchebag.....

I'm sure they did as we did last week and at the very last second a feckin taxi decided to make his left hand turn when we were ALREADY in the middle of the intersection!! EVERYONE ELSE had stopped. Very quick reflexes and space to avoid hitting something saved us from what could have been a bad crash...thank God.... but somtimes you just don't have that chance.

Emergency vehicles AWAYS has the right of way and if you were a cop you would know that. EVERYONE should (being the key word) know that but some assholes (probably like you) don't give a rats ass....where you need to go is more important than waiting the few seconds it takes for the intersection to clear!!

My prayers and well wishes for a speedy recovery!!

Exactly what I was thinking. If you blow the light, lights and siren make no difference to the traffic review board.

arent they all pretty much preventable?..... lets not fool eachother.. we know who we work with and how they drive. its beyond me watching some people drive when they have lights and sirens on.. its as if they think they are flying above traffic.. dont even get me started when they drive when the DONT have lights and sirens on.. almost just as bad, stop signs, red lights and other cars dont exist. But, when I was young I drove the same way... in a big damn hurry to get nowhere and have to blow through the redlight just because I dont want to wait.. now, Ive got 8 hours to burn.. im in no hurry, but 28 years will do that. 9 more months.... ahhhhhhhhh, I can feel florida now.

In my time on the job I have seen more officers suffer great injury in car accidents than anything. A lot of them never have fully recovered. Guys will come back to the job, but have horrible physical ailments. Sometimes these accidents can't be helped, sometimes they can. The point is be careful when going to emergency calls. Remember there is nothing you can do if you don't get there safely. I pray for a speedy recovery for these officers.

I sure do hope those officers are okay. We always have to be extra careful because we are easy to throw the blame on even when we do the right thing. Get well soon officers!

Maybe the few officers who drive like idiots will think twice. There is a goof ball in 009 that rides up on drivers bumpers while rushing to a job. It's a midnight shift and he only uses his spotlight to get the cars to pull over. No flashing lights or sirens. He believes the blinding spotlight works better than the designated equipment. Go Figure... I know we all were taught at the same academy and saw a million streaming videos about activating equipment.

Hey Duche!
Read your general orders, make sure everybody sees your flying tahoe with lights and siren on then resond to call you consider very important. The most important part is getting there safely, where you are that badly needed. If you don't get there in one piece, you are worthless to me or anybody else. You can quote your EMERGENCY VEHICLE laws to everybody, but you will get fired real quick if you don't follow simple rules this dept. gives us and get somebody injured or killed.

I almost got ran into by a cop car one time at night. You would think that the flashing lights would be especially visible at night but I just could not see them until I was out in the intersection, and by then it was too late. I was lucky and the cop stopped as he went into the intersection and there was no collision.

But there was no way I could have avoided him. I just could not see him soon enough to stop.

Sometimes the way the buildings and other obstructions at an intersection are arranged makes it very hard to see until it is too late, especially when the guy coming down the cross street is going a lot faster than normal.

Not a cop

Slow it down at the intersections...lights, sirens and hocus pocus do not create a force field around you..
