Is Chicago Prepared?

The short answer is "no."

But various media outlets (not the big ones) have been picking up on what we've been seeing for months now:
  • Get ready Chicago. We’re only three months away from the international G8 and NATO meetings taking place here in Chicago this May. In preparation for the usually violent G8 conference – a meeting of the 8 wealthiest nations in the world – local police have been training and upgrading their equipment. Two local media exposes however, have begged the questions; what exactly are they training for, what kind of equipment will they be getting, and will they receive either in time to make a difference.

From May 18-22, Chicago will be a closed city with thousands of powerful world leaders walking our streets. First, the G8 Summit will take place, immediately followed the next day by the NATO meeting. To give readers an indication of just how precedent-setting this meeting is, it will be the first time ever that NATO has met in a US city other than Washington DC. Federal authorities have already confirmed that they intend to put parts of downtown under military martial law for three days, albeit using slightly less threatening terminology. The Feds will also have thousands of heavily-armed military personnel controlling the area, as well as thousands of additional invisible Federal agents mingling among the crowds.

Expect more of this in the coming month.

Upgrade equipment? what? We haven't got a damm thing. I saw the story on the news that we are getting better helmet shields, but they haven't told us this, we had to learn about it on TV. So far no one has seen a new shield. What we need is the best tools to disperse the unpeacefull crowds. we have to be able to use everything to get them off of us. A new shiled isn't going to protect us from 1000's of violent protesters. We need to make them run for cover.

The chicago business community is going to get killed by this nightmare. It's funny how the city keeps lying to them saying it's going to be ok, businesses will prosper. Even a dummy knows it's bad. How they hell are people going to get to the businesses even if they wanted to? The city also is lying about the dates when we all know it's May 13-22 and probably a lot longer than that. It's all about Rahm's legacy.

SOMEONE IN ANOTHER POST WAS ASKING ABOUT RAHM'S SHOWER SCENE:

Rep. Eric Massa (D-NY) had some choice words for White House Chief of Staff Rahm Emanuel during a recent radio interview in which he called the top Obama adviser "the son of the devil's spawn."

"He is an individual who would sell his mother to get a vote. He would strap his children to the front end of a steam locomotive," Massa said of Emanuel's desire to lock up vital votes on health care reform. "You think that somehow they didn't come after me to get rid of me because my vote is the deciding vote in the health care bill? Then, ladies and gentlemen, you live today in a world that is so innocent as to not understand what's going on in Washington, D.C."

According to an account given by Massa, he and Emanuel have had tense confrontations in the past, including one particularly memorable incident in the shower of the Congressional gym.

"Let me tell you a story about Rahm Emanuel," Massa started. "I was a congressman in my first eight weeks, and I was in the congressional gym, and I went down and I worked out and I went into the showers...I'm sitting there showering, naked as a jaybird and here comes Rahm Emanuel not even with a towel wrapped around his tush, poking his finger in my chest, yelling at me because I wasn't going to vote for the president's budget. Do you know how awkward it is to have a political argument with a naked man?

Here's another interesting scenario. Are they planning on manning the parking lots in 001/018 where everyone coming in will be parking? I know that when Occupy was getting locked up their cohorts were all lurking around 001 waiting for the arrestees release. What's the plan to protect our cars and from these goofs taking down license plates and/or following PO's out of the lot.

Food for thought.

I'm not extremely worried about the G8/NATO security. That is all being handled by the feebs. They will close down streets for as long as is necessary. That means Lake Shore Drive, King Drive and the street behind McCormick place along the IC tracks. I presume that air traffic will be re-routed and delivery trucks will be thoroughly scanned. I would think that the companies that are providing goods and services have had their employees vetted and ID'd by the feds, too. Chicago will only have to deal with the public protests all over the loop, south and north Michigan avenues and the regular neighborhood patrols. It will be a long month. Don't believe their lies about a few days or a week. Protestors have permits for other gatherings during the whole month, and if they really like Chicago, may turn the whole summer around. Maybe Chicago should do what DC does.... if you play nice you will get TV time, if not, then it will just go viral. Nothing to see here... move along.

Yeah, this summit is suppose to attract money from the G8 to grow Chicago's economy.

So who exactly are the G8 members?

France, United States, United Kingdom, Russia, Germany, Japan, Italy, and Canada.

Where's this so-called investment money going to come from?

Japan is still reeling with debt from the last tsunami and the related nuc disaster. Italy, France, UK, Germany are all in crisis mode with the Euro zone trying to save it and it's members like Greece. So that leaves us with Russia and Canada and why in the world would either of those two want to do business with the overpriced Chicago?

What do they intend to do? Print more money and pass the bill to their people while telling them that they are living beyond their means and need to give up their: pensions, health care, education, retirement and public services in order to pay off a debt that they did not create or approve? A debt to give Chicago some business so it can grow. HA! good luck with that plan.

Do a google. Over half these countries have massive protests in the streets already and this summit is a invite to express their frustrations with elite government officials who just don't get it and don't care.

This is not some kind of summer festival. Seeing an armored personnel carrier does not suddenly give me the urge to go get a $12.00 wiener-on-a-stick or something.

Trust me -- troops in the streets, soldiers in the city parks with fixed bayonets is not something you bring your kids to, to run around and play and get ice cream.

Oh -- for terrorists, what will be the softest "mass casualty" target in the whole city?

The "Occupy" encampment.

I am not a cop but I live in the city and own a business downtown in River North -- in the tourism industry, and I am shutting down for the Summit weekend for safety reasons and consequently I am gonna lose several grand in revenue and my question to you MR. MAYOR is what the fuck else am I supposed to do?
I feel I have a duty and responsibility to protect my customers and by shutting down I won't be inviting them to come into a hostile environment, nor will I be exposing my employees to potential touble/harm.
And because of my decision here, our mayor, the Honorable Rahm Emanuel, wants to call me an asshole by saying it will be my own fault for shutting down and denying myself the windfall he claims downtown businesses will realize from everyone flocking to Chicago pour money into the local economy for the summit.
WHAT? Are you fucking kidding me?
NOBODY WLL BE COMING DOWNTOWN TO SPEND MONEY BECAUSE EVERYONE IS FRIGHTENED, RAHM, YOU FUCKING DUMBASS.
My concerns are not a criticism of the police. I feel sorry for the beat cops and other responders who are gonna have to deal with this bullshit -- I have uncles who were CPD and worked 1968, and this summit is gonna make 1968 look like a Little League game.

The Feds don't have thousands of agents. What a bunch of horseshit. The Coast Guard is supplying over 200 guards to assist at the lakefront. The suburban Police want to help us but will not be indemnified and therefore their on retainer council can't handle hundreds of lawsuits when they only get a couple a year. Why can't Rahm have a resolution passed that no Law Enforcement can be sued during the demonstrations? That would be an answer that will eliminate a lot of the potential Police antagonism. The Judges and ASA’s enjoy this protection every day they work. Why can’t we have it for a couple weeks? It would also allow our suburban brothers to assist us.

"Showdown in Chicago" as posted on Youtube:http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ptbRxmpYRKE

Uploaded by mistermonkeyhead on Jan 26, 2012

On May 1, 50,000 people from all over the world will flock to Chicago, set up tents, kitchens, peaceful barricades and #OCCUPYCHICAGO for a month. With a bit of luck, we'll pull off the biggest multinational occupation of a summit meeting the world has ever seen.

And this time around we're not going to put up with the kind of police repression that happened during the Democratic National Convention protests in Chicago, 1968 ... nor will we abide by any phony restrictions the City of Chicago may want to impose on our first amendment rights. We'll go there with our heads held high and assemble for a month-long people's summit ... we'll march and chant and sing and shout and exercise our right to tell our elected representatives what we want ... the constitution will be our guide.

And when the G8 and NATO meet behind closed doors on May 19, we'll be ready with our demands: a Robin Hood Tax ... a ban on high frequency 'flash' trading ... a binding climate change accord ... a three strikes and you're out law for corporate criminals ... an all out initiative for a nuclear-free Middle East ... whatever we decide in our general assemblies and in our global internet brainstorm -- we the people will set the agenda for the next few years and demand our leaders carry it out.

And if they don't listen ... if they ignore us and put our demands on the back burner like they've done so many times before ... then, with Gandhian ferocity, we'll flashmob the streets, shut down stock exchanges, campuses, corporate headquarters and cities across the globe ... we'll make the price of doing business as usual too much to bear.

Jammers, pack your tents, muster up your courage and prepare for a big bang in Chicago this Spring. If we don't stand up now and fight now for a different kind of future we may not have much of a future ... so let's live without dead time for a month in May and see what happens ...

Is there legal stipulations that indemnifies City officials (Mayor) from us getting seriously injured from this G8/NATO? I would like to see it happen after all he got millions! He could spare a few. Again, having this summit was a bad decision. If Martial Law is imposed, this means some sort of Military Force will be able to assist? This is going to cost the "TAX Payers" millions of dollars to the City. It's a lose-lose and if the city goes up the Mayor is out for a second term. (which is a win for us )

Told last week that our hours are going to be 7am to 7pm, then you have to find your prisoners, get there, review all your arrestees reports, make any changes, find your way back to your personal car, then find your way home. That puts your tour of duty at about 18 hours including travel time. then get 2-3 hrs of sleep (if you are lucky) then turn around and do it all over again. This is for 14 straght days in a row with no days off. please tell me how officers are going to survive? by the end of day 2 on the front lines, most will be running at less than 50%. What a fucking joke.

11.9% is so typical of the credit union. Gauge officers at every opportunity. What a ridiculous rate. You'd get a better rate buying a car and financing it through a dealership.

I made a bet of $1.00 that this fiasco will get canceled at the last minute.

But not for a reason we would like.

As the Messiah has been pulling troops out of Iraq and Afghanistan and after the Koran burning incident Al Qaeda and the Taliban have been emboldened and looking for U.S. targets.

Does anyone else recall recent news stories about a jihadist online magazine called "Inspire"? Their cover story a few months ago was how to attack Chicago, using SUVs with plow blades as well s bombs.

If these assholes decide to blow up bombs anywhere near McCormick Place or O'Hare just before G8/NATO or do a 9-11 type attack the foreign ministries such delegations such as the French Bureau for Eccentric Sexual Practices and the British Ministry of Silly Walks may decline to come and the whole thing will collapse.

BUT, we will still have 10,000 to 100,000 or more other assholes here. They will be all dressed for the party so why not have it anyway. If a major attack occurred do you think Black Block and the others would help us dig out or to bury the dead. They are not Americans and have no sense of responsibility and would dance and shout that we deserved it.

Stay Safe, in any case we are screwed, thanks Rahm and Barrack, for making Chicago a target. The whole country should remember this Election Day.

The whole thing is a joke. The suburbs have been asking for information for six months, what sort of law and medical assistance will be needed - no information available. Nothing. The "briefings" are a joke - can get more from the Trib and Times.

"Check out a youtube video of German security (like CPD marine unit) running over a GreenPeace boat at a recent protest with their boat. Is Rahm gonna authorize this, or will he side with his ultra left wing liberal friends that got him elected?"

--3/02/2012 06:15:00 PM

We had a terrorist act here not long ago -- men in climbing gear with large backpack spray tanks of an unknown substance breaching the perimeter of a power plant, and climbing the 400-foot-plus stacks all the way to the top, in a city of millions.

Nobody knew what was in those tanks or what they intended to do.

They also committed a federal crime, interfering with a navigable waterway, when they dangled from an overpass and forced a towboat and tow on the Sanitary and Ship Canal to stop.

A tow of barges has tremendous momentum, and the usable channel as seen on the charts is far narrower than it appears to the eye. A bridge could have been damaged, or there could have been a collision with another vessel.

I saw 250,000 gallons of oil burn after a barge accident down at Harlem Avenue a few years back.

No one did a f__ing thing about any of this. Rahm's buddies. I knew what was coming when I saw the large, expensive four-color-process posters on the sides of city bus shelters, demanding that the two power plants left here be closed. I wonder who picked up the tab for those?

The pictures you saw of the stacks were always taken by the enviros on a below-zero winter day, when the hot air coming off would look spectacular. Try looking at Fisk or Crawford on a beautiful clear summer afternoon -- there's just a pale, light tan streak coming from the stack. It's about as clean as anyone can run a plant.

Now that the plants are closing, we hear on the TV news that Emanuel was in the lead of this movement.

Midwest Cogeneration may leave Illinois entirely now. Hundreds, possibly thousands of jobs will be lost -- the railroads had a very steady, regular business wth the "unit trains" of coal coming in, and all that will be gone now. Their investment in heavily-built "super railroad" in Wyoming to get low-sulfur coal will be for naught.

With summer coming, Mayor Emanuel will make electricity with his finger during periods of record peak demand.

So if that's the case sounds like the feds will be doing most of the work.

3/02/2012 12:17:00 AM<<<

The FEDs will do what they always do. They will be comfortably away from all the street action close to all the delegates. They will be shielded from the attacks by Black Block, from the thrown shit and wrist rocket missiles by rows of expendable under- equipped under-trained Chicago Cops.

The FEDs will have rest area service tables with food, snacks and beverages provided by the delegate’s hotels and they will be OFF LIMITS to Chicago Cops. The FEDs will have clean bathrooms and regular relief to use them while the Chicago Cops will have to find an alley.

The FEDs will have their own Medics embedded with them and trauma first aid kits. Chicago Cops have to buy their first aid supplies and carry out our wounded to a "safe area" where the Fire Department Paramedics will be.

The FEDs will be shielded from law suits and prosecution while Anita Alvarez intends to make political gains prosecuting cops from this and law firms like Lovey & Lovey and now consulting on how to make to multi-millions from the city and take individual officers life savings.

The FEDs will get fancy Letters of Commendation with official gold seals on them in several languages from all those G8/NATO countries. The Chicago Cops might get a ribbon bar, and God forbid a funeral or two and a hell of a summer with ranks depleted by injuries and no hiring. Rahm would use the funerals as a photo op while he tries to steal the widow’s and orphan’s pension and cut the benefits of the injured.

"the feds will be doing most of the work." The FEDs will do what they always do; let the grunt street cops do the work and they get the credit.

Wolf makes sense just have 50 aldermen pass a resolution that superceeds the Constitution, why didnt we do this before its so easy

One thing I haven't seen mentioned: May 17-27 2012 is Chicago's annual Craft Beer Week. A celebration that brings beer geeks from all over the country to Chicago. It's so great they've added four days to the standard 7-day week, but I suspect they might not be keeping the G8/NATO overlap in mind. Worst case scenario, though, everyone can have some good strong small-brewery beers when recovering from whatever happens.

I've been on over 25 years and I'm over 50. The above described schedule would be grueling for someone half my age.
The city can kiss my ass if they think I can handle consecutive 12-14 hour days standing in full riot gear.
It's not gonna happen. I will be either IOD or medical.

Let the protesters tear up downtown all they want. Why should we risk injury, indictment or our livelihoods because a media crazed mayor and drunken police superintendant say so. When the G8 assholes start tearing up downtown, we should just step aside and let them. If we don't engage, then we cannot be accused of anything. How embarrassing will it be to the mayor when the media shows his town being ripped apart and his police department not engaging. I wonder if any of the protesters will be protesting obamas hyde park residence. Will the secret service just sit back and watch or will they be coaling 911.

Once again I recommend the following advice.Gather the Soldier and Marine veterans from Iraq and Afghanistan wars.Purchase the phone and video negating devices which can be purchased at Radio Shack, place them in areas where you suspect confrontations will occur.Let these vets loose at the initial confrontation and kick the shit out of these anarchist. The word will spread quickly amongst their comrades of the repercussions of their actions and the anti-social behavior will end.

Probably lower costs, per square foot, insurance and corrupiton taxes.
