And speaking of things 'time' related...
You can expect to be swiping in and out shortly after NATO leaves town. Rahm's number crunchers figured out how much wasted $$$ CPD costs the annual budget due to tardiness, early cuts, etc. Like private industry, there will be a 6-7 minute leeway for the swipes. Anything beyond that will result in the appropriate amount of pay deducted. And guess who made up some of this committee that made these startling discoveries? None other than the a few of the turds left over from the Crystal Ball Unit once Goldfinger moved on to greener pastures.
There are gonna be a ton of unhappy people once their checks started getting docked. In addition to the loss of pay, disciplinary proceedings will be brought upon chronically tardy individuals. A & As will be monitored daily to verify that the times in and out jive with the officers' swipes. Again, disciplinary proceedings to be levied upon supervisors who try to circumvent the process with constant 'start-time changes/hours adjustments' (read 'special' units; Narcotics, Gang Intel...pretty much all of Homan Sq.).
Now the biggie: officers attempting to circumvent the swipe procedure via duplicate cards and/or having coworkers swipe for one another to duck early will be charged both administratively and criminally (theft).
This is NOT rumor, but fact. The details are still being hammered out, but it will start shortly after the conclusion of NATO for obvious reasons.

You know....This was the greatest job on earth at one time. In recent years all this job will give you is depression and high blood pressure. And that's just from the people you work with. The crap on the street is 1000 times more tollerable. Then of course all the BS red tape and typical bureaucratic crap that goes on.
Then this one says he is better and now is under investigation for misapropriation of legal funds.
Then this one says it will change and they are always for the coppers. But still endorses the very ones that stick it in our hind end.
Then I call 3 times and leave a message each time hoping to get a medical leave question answered. And not to my surprise... Not a single message was answered. It's been a week already. What am I paying dues for each month? I can stick things in my rear end all on my own. FOP Fuck Our Police.
Whats with this new GO. CPD officers cant joke anymore? CPD officers cant vent their frustrations? CPD officers cant have a little harmless fun anymore? CPD officers cant comment on how the city and the department continually lie to the public? This is still America right? The US Constitution still exists right? Obviously the city and department wants us all to zip our lips and not let people know the truth or allow officers to have a little harmless fun poking fun at all the wrongs with this city and department. Its unfair and just wrong creating this GO.

If this system is handled anything like the way other systems we have to work with are handledit won't last.
The city will doesn't pay its bills and the venders turn off or stop fixing the item that breaks down. Look at the SmartBoards for streaming videos, nothing on them because the city won't pay to get them fixed.
Prisoner processing computers, one or two, maybe three out of seven of them work because the cheap city will not pay the vendor to update the software.
Sallyports, a major officer safety breaks down and the unpaid vendor will not fix it.
The only system that has stood the test of time after shaking out a few flaws are those damn LAZ parking boxes and that's because it is directly income and the city does not own them.
Please change the batteries in the SMOKE and CO Detectors.
What am I paying dues for each month? I can stick things in my rear end all on my own. FOP Fuck Our Police.

What's with the attitude from some dispatchers lately? Did the newer dispatchers take a class that makes them think that they are our boss and that we work for them? There's a f/2 on Z13 1st watch who's annoying with her (what she thinks is funny) comments when she dispatches a job. We already know what the job will be like because we handle the jobs. Too much attitude from a civilian position.

Regarding swiping and out. What about our 2 personals and 30 min lunches? That's why swiping in and out will never work and won't ever happen. Sorry buddy, but they just can't get it done. In the end they'll be paying more for OT than what they save.

OT...but the tution bill for my spring semester is due..I go deeper in the hole b/c am still waiting for last 3 semesters reimbursement (five classes)....if only I went to a diploma mill "preferred provider" where the tuition/materials are rolled into one, and the payment is deferred until the city gets your guaranteed A hand delivered to them (oh...did you think lewis,xavier and adler where full of genius police--anything less than A puts the student on hook for 25% so it doesnt happen)..sorry fellow scholars- go higher education!

Its a sad day when a p.o from traffic writes a tact guy in uniform on his way to the southside irish detail a ticket. He was in the company of his sgt and taken to 022 so he could post bond. Wtf.
Was talking to a PO that years ago worked at a unit that had a strict swiping policy and practice.
Before it was implemented, he would arrive at his work station a few minutes early. He often answered the phone while he was waiting for the coffee.
After swipe-in policy, the phone could off the table. But until the clock said "8:00", it just rang..and rang....and rang.
And if he was on the phone at 4:30, he told the people to call back during tomorrow's business hours.

When we start swiping, make sure everyone goes down for 2-15 minute personals and lunch. If you are refused, put in a slip. We all know that will kill them because of the manpower shortage. I never use my personals and it is time to start.
I gotta agree, that dispatcher is a total asshole when giving the Jobs, you would think that a little less attitude and more information so we don't get hurt. Must be dating a criminal or something because she sure has a BIG attitude with the police. Perhaps her supervisor should monitor her attitude when giving the jobs. We already get the funky attitude from our clientele, we don't need it from a dispatcher that at times is the last thing we hear when things go bad. So for the rest of good dispatcher, thank you, but someone gotta tell that zone13 f/1st watch to keep the attitute at home. Sounds like she is stressed out and gotta take it out on us. Her attitude it aint cute, funny or welcomed. It's quite annoying when trying to keep safe and go home in one piece.

That's messed up in all levels!! wtf!!!? I can't believe that a cop would give another cop a ticket. See no loyalty, no courtesy, no shit...COURTESY!!! dumb ass!!! CURTESY is the word for that 3200 unit giving tickets to coppers...I hope jaggoff never calls a 10-1, he sure gonna want for everyone to respond although he doesn't deserve our loyalty or courtesy.

I worked the detail and didn't hear anything about it. If that is true, copper should be named. Can anyone confirm that this actually occurred?
Yes I can see everybody swiping in soon, Homan Square got new swiping machines couple months ago and are palm readers along with swiping your Identification card. Have been told by DC anyone tardy /late will be docked for chronic tardiness in 15 min. Increments as required by contract and third tardy in period can and will be written up than suspended for 1 day!
New squads sitting in lot on the South-side and NOT to be used for Patrol, have to look good for the NATO summit escorts. Strict orders those cars NOT to be used before than. Counted 23 new cars the other day.

His excuse was that he was told the parade was zero tolerance. What a stroke. Can you say CR and lawsuit. Why not, the ghetto gets to do it. We tried to intervene. Bt. 3232 had his camera and mic on the entire time. Let's see how this plays out. What an ass!

Read your contract jackass, nowhere does it say you are guaranteed 2 personals a tour, nor are you gonna. E compensated for not being able to take them. I believe the wording (not verbatim) is a "reasonable" number of personals during your tour. 2 is by no means unreasonable, nor are 12 if you have a case of diarrhea and you gotta find a pot every 20 minutes. But I that were the case "reasonable" would mean sent home sick.
Long story short: you are NOT GUARANTEED 2 personals on any given day.
Read the contract, go to FOP meetings and get educated and informed. You may actually need to know stuff like this some day.

Actually I most likely will not give you a ticket no matter what the circumstance is, if you have a pleasant attitude, and are seriously remorseful for what you have done. Obviously if you are a DUI or something of the nature or if you endanger lives, then yes, you'll get a ticket.
You know what I like to do during these periods where the time falls back or springs ahead an hour?
I like to change the time back to what it was previously, wherever I can get away with it.
I'm also that guy who puts explosive charges in your cigars and cigarettes.

That's a subjective question. Yes, i risk my life every day I go to work. Any time I leave my house I risk my life in this City. More to your point though - no, I do not risk my life like you guys do. However we all choose our own professions. If I couldn't deal with the risks at my place of employment, I'd start thinking about looking for another job. I'm not saying the risks aren't there, or that they are always fair..but that's part of the job - take it or leave it.
Would I stop to help if you were getting your ass kicked? YES. The only thing I would prefer would be the right to defend myself with a firearm like in 49 other states. (No, I wouldn't accidentally shoot you either.)
My point was when a copper gives another copper a break, it's almost expected. When a motorist gets pulled over that's not a cop, it's very very very rare that they get a pass. Not in Chicago (in my experience, the only time CPD gave me a ticket I deserved it and laughed about it) - but definitely in the suburbs and from the ISP.
Just remember we all put our pants on one leg at a time. And to that guy who assumed I'd be an asshole? You got it all wrong, bub. I go out of my way to show respect when I get pulled over, because every time, I deserve it (as much as the law is backwards and senseless sometimes). I won't lie - I like to speed. That's about the only law I break. That and the No Turn On Red sign at Ozark and NW Hwy that has no business being in effect aside from rush hour, but I digress.

I don't know if coppers have this kind of discretion anymore with all the cameras and other BS they're required to use these days but in 25 years this ret.copper never gave anyone with a job a ticket. It was just a personal rule of mine.

Fair enough, sir. I wish more guys had your attitude. Thankfully there are bigger fish to fry in this city than a speeder on his way to work. 016 is drained of resources anyway, and it's obvious. That's going to be a problem soon, if it isn't already.
