FOP Newsletter

Got it in the mail today and two things stand out:
  • The retiree listing reappeared! But it only lists the retirees from September and October of last year. Now we realize that there is plenty of stuff to write about, especially coming up on a contract year, but seeing as how November and December are the BIG retirement months and this January was another one, might it be helpful to have this a useful comparison to compare against hiring numbers? Especially when the Department has only hired 50 cops in three years;

And the endorsement list is out:

  • Edward Acevedo - State Rep 2nd District
  • Mike Madigan - State Rep 22nd District
  • Anita Alvarez - Cook County State's Attorney
Seriously? Acevedo has the "*" next to his name noting that he is a cop. He's also an embarrassment to the badge with his off duty shenanigans.

Madigan? Are you fucking kidding us?

And Anita, who ran last time on a platform of locking up police officers.

Those are just the three that stand out in our minds. You know, just because the candidates are running unopposed or are the only ones to show up at the PAC committee meeting doesn't mean we have to give them the seal of approval by default. Unless they've actually done something for Chicago Police Officers and their families, then withholding an endorsement sends a clear message that we aren't happy.

Of course, it'd help if more of us were actually registered to vote, too.

I can't believe Acevedo is not in prison. What a joke he is, too. This guy has gotten away with so much, both on and off the job, it is disgusting.

Madigan being endorsed? Shields, what the hell is that all about?

C'mon, Mike, you are not sending the FOP newsletter to a bunch of 22 year olds still on probation.

Madigan is not for the police. When was the last time he spoke out on behalf of the police. Mike Madigan is for Mike Madigan and no one is fooled by that.

Alvarez is coming into her own as a typical Chicago politician. It is a crime how she allows her assistant state's attorney not approve felony charges on cases, because they only want the cases they can win without putting in any effort. The victim's of Chicago would be astounded by what goes on in felony review.

Really, Shields? You have become too political yourself. It is ashame, but I blame it on the fact that you don't have any time on the street as a cop.

Mike, you better start looking out for our best interests a bit more, or in a couple of years, you may be trying to find your way around a beat car.

Saviano another bad one. I think there are a few Kass columns talking about his issues.

Mulroe voted for the state tax increase..enough said (D machine hack)

Berrios and Mell....are you kidding me?

FOP you have lost credibility again on this one.

Vote every incumbent out of office. Illinois politics needs an enema. Elected offices are not lifetime jobs and should not be given to relatives as if they are birthrights. Next FOP election, vote them out too.

While I also disagree with these 3 endorsements, I appreciate the fact that they also cleared the air (somewhat) with the whole Stoppa issue. If she actually answered like that (and I believe she did because everything is documented via stenographer and those present taking notes) then thank God FOP didn't endorse her. There's a reason for everything and the evil you know is better than the evil you dont know. Just because you're on the job shouldn't mean you get carte blanche. There's too many idiots on the job now because of clout that don't know their ass from a he in the ground. Enjoy your unearned spot in narcotics while your brother enjoys being an Lt with less than 20 years otj because he "got lucky" (read as special study groups). Your family had had enough bites of the merit/clout apple......no need to put you in political office to help f**k me and other officers outta everything we worked our whole lives for. Every good Chicago Democrat knows that members of the CPD and their families generally don't vote(except for those in the nice lil cushy jobs....job security) so they know that as long as they have a place to bitch (like SCC), they will be happy in their own little world.
Come on ladies & gentlemen, Vote!!!

Alvarez has evidence of wrongdoing by David Protess at the Innocence Project, including evidence that Anthony Porter was in fact guilty of a double homicide in 1982. Protess and his students broke the law in getting Porter refused, but Alvarez will take no action against Protess or the illegal tactics of the wrongful conviction movement. There is no way she should get support from any police union, let alone the Chicago Police. The evidence against the Innocence Project is listed at the website chicagojusticedenied.com

I almost died when I read that the FOP wanted to know if candidates had gone to a large labor union for their endorsement??? News flash to FOP. Police Officers are not LABORERS!!!!!!!! Police produce nothing!!!! We are protectors!!! We are enforcers of the law!!! We keep the peace!!! Police Officers are proud group of professionals!!!!! We don't, can't, and should never strike. We look out for the rich and the poor. We balance the scales of justice every day in a split second. We are not deadbeats looking for a handout with backroom deals. We are not an army of criminals who had to pay somebody off to get job. Laborers are overpaid clowns. Laborers do jobs any third world goof with no education could do right now for one tenth the pay these union clowns get.

Looked for some mention of the closing of the 2 northside areas in the newsletter.

Not a word.

Can you imagine making detective in Chicago now? You might spend your entire detective career driving 40 miles a day to and from work.

Maybe I am being selfish here, but accepting the rank of detective was always a gamble because you ha only 5 areas to chose from. Now you have 3.

Way to ruin the best job on the department guys.

Sure Area "North" has twice the number of spots as it used to, I understand that. But that still leaves one less "northside" area than before.

Everyone knows the move didn't save one dime for the taxpayers, and actually probably cost them a bit.

And the victims - actually worse for them - now they have to travel across the world too.

Why? What, for shits and giggles at this point I know, but why? What was McShitfaced' official reason for this?

And don't give me that lame dick excuse that we have to play nice with our enemies. Political change starts with having the balls to call them out when they are overtly against you.

Sickening. And we pay dues to these people. You tools just endorsed criminals who are screwing your membership.

And by the way, we rank and file police support the Second Amendment and Concealed Carry for our citizens too. Shields endorced Madigan and his lackey Martwick.

Read this without puking:

Berrios has also met in his office with Robert Martwick and his son, Robert Jr. The elder Martwick is a property tax lawyer who doubles as the Democratic committeeman of Norwood Park Township and serves as secretary of the Cook County Democratic Party. The son is also a tax appeals attorney and an elected trustee in the Village of Norridge who runs a political consulting firm that has done work for Berrios. The Martwicks have met with Berrios, separately and together, 17 times, and on three occasions father or son quickly followed up with donations of $1,000, $200, and $3,000. Dean Katsaros, a tax consultant, met with Berrios 19 times, twice giving him contributions almost immediately afterward totaling $3,500.

I did early voting. I did not vote for any candidate running unopposed. I voted in races with two or more candidates. The machine lit up at the end with all the races I skipped. I clicked “continue” and my votes were recorded.

Why?
It is a message. If 100 people show up to vote, but only 10 people vote for an unopposed candidate that should tell the candidate that 90 people don’t like him. It should also tell others that the candidate is weak, and could be beaten in the next election.

If all cops and firefighter voted, we would be the most powerful force in this city.

The FOP is completely useless and this confirms my opinion! Really, Mike Madigan? The same dickhead sperm donor that hatched Lisa Madigan?
And MS. "I want you FOID info to go public" Alvarez! Remember this from 2009?
SPRINGFIELD---New Cook County State's Atty. Anita Alvarez won a small victory today at the Capitol, pushing a proposal to require a firearm owner to file a police report within three days of a gun being lost or stolen.

Making her first appearance before a House panel since taking office, Alvarez's gun measure advanced on a 6-4 party line vote out of the House Executive Committee.

The legislation, sponsored by Rep. Eddie Acevedo (D-Chicago), is a petty offense for the first violation. A second offense could lead to a misdemeanor sentence of up to a year in jail and revocation of a person's FOID card.

When is the next election? Shields must go! I have not spoke to one FOP member who agrees with these endorsements? Mr. Shields you are supposed to represent the FOP membership, not your own agenda.

Wow, thanks SCC for shedding light on this topic … I almost followed FOP blindly on this one … But I had a nagging feeling that something wasn’t right with these names.

I’m glad the other readers were able to weigh in.

Mike madigan, one of the most powerful people in the state. He wouldn't be a bad person to have on our side, especially with all these attacks on our pension down in springfield. So let's hope shields has had a talk with him and that maybe he'll see our side of the coin when all this pension and Police stuff comes up down there. Not a bad political move in my book.

Vote? Vote for whom? Voting is a waste of time people and democracy here in Shitcago/crook county is a sham. All smoke and mirrors. It's amazing that people still feel compelled to vote due to the propaganda they learn in grammar school. Come on people the deck is stacked against us and the system is rigged here. Voting will change nothing. So instead of wasting your time at the polls trying to ease the pain in your soul sleep in, save gas, spend time with family, and most importantly, pick a good state to retire to away from Illinois and its corruption.

The fact that SCC lists our complaints is more important that what FOP endorses as far as who gets cop's votes.

Cops who do vote will probably vote against these three and go with any list that SCC endorses with creditable reasons.

BUT, the big BUT is that these candidates will use the FOP endorsements as campaign tools making them seem like Law & Order champions when they are voting to close down prisons, steal police pensions or prosecute cops on the sullied words of pimps and dopers or Jody Weis.

The real challenge now is to get every cop in the city TO VOTE. Get them to the polls, take their wives, husbands, kids of voting age, wheel granny in or get her an absentee ballot and every other member of their family they can drag kicking promising them ice cream or a bottle of Thunderbird whatever it takes to get them on record as voting.

At this point of the game, it almost doesn't matter who they vote for. It matters more that COPS and THEIR FAMILIES VOTED and therefore COPS and their ISSUES MATTER. Then we need to get proud and loud about getting rid of Rahm especially after NATO leaves the city on the front page of the world burning and in debt.

Stay Safe, VOTE and make them FEAR US.

Need more candidates on the Republican side. I live in the 19th Ward and can't stomach voting for any more of these DemocRats. Check out the sample ballots--same old shit. Oh well, if you want to get in and out of the voting booth fast and piss off your Koolaid-drinking DemocRatic neighbors working the polls then request a Republican ballot. (That is, as long as you don't need to request any city services anytime soon.) At least I'll leave with a semi-clear conscience.

Amen to that. I can't tell you how disappointed I am reading the current newsletter. The mudslinging at Tom Needham is so unprofessional. He repped me a few years back and saved my job, house, and pension. An all around gentleman who did an outstanding job for me and many others who wear the blue. If you don't believe me, ask the Park Ridge Boss who almost went to the joint because of some jagoff kids. Tom just got him exonerated. Couple this with the witch hunt of Greg Bella, it really seems this administration is more comfortable Settling old scores than worring about important issues like our upcoming contract, pensions, and GarryS complete disregard of our contract.

Keep up on current events and contact your lawmakers to let them know you are watching their moves and positions on issues that are critical to us.

Illinois has been called the most corrupt state in the union as an example look at the number of OUR elected officials being indicted or sent to a correctional facility.

Therefore, our FOP is just perpetuating the climate of corruption and nepotism etc.

I dont remember which Department Rule it is that speaks to being a party to a crime, but wouldnt an endorsement be a tacit nod, or an approval to a continued culture of TAX and SPENT, anti-business, and everything that is wrong with this city, county and state?

Shame on you FOP, Shame on you FOP political action committee. Shame on the membership if they allow this HUGE injustice and slap in the face to go unpunished when election time comes.

If you live in the new 19 IL state rep district (thanks Madigan) read about Sandra Stoppa in her own words.

Sandra Stoppa -- Responses to our questionnaire

also the Tribune endorsed her:

19th District: Chosen by the retiring incumbent, slated by a panel that included his father, a Democratic committeeman, and endorsed by the usual lineup, Robert Martwick Jr. is the party's choice in the Democratic primary. Ours is Sandra Stoppa, a Chicago police officer who is independent-minded and beholden to none of the above. She would more aggressively protect taxpayers than Martwick would.

So did the Sergeant's Assoc:

19th Rep. District: Sandra Stoppa (Active P.O.) (D)

The FOP made another mistake by endorsing Madigan hack Martwick.

She is running against 2 opponent who both have a lot of financial and pension experience. Hurley has none. Why did the fop endorse her.? Well I'll tell ya. Cook co sheriff dart is not running again Mark Donahue wants to run for sheriff Donahue needs 19th ward help if he wants to win that election. The last 3 cook co sheriff's are from the 19th ward. Boy if you love the Democrat Machine like I do please vote for Martwick in the 19th!

A similar situation has arisen in the 19th District, where Lyons, an assistant majority leader and part of Madigan's team, retired after voting for the income tax hike. Madigan tasked Lyons with the job of anointing a replacement. Upon Lyons' recommendation, the slatemaking committee, consisting of Democratic committeemen from the Chicago 45th (Pat Levar), 38th (Patti Jo Cullerton) and 36th (Bill Banks) wards, plus Norwood Park Township committeeman Bob Martwick, anointed Rob Martwick, of Norridge, Bob's son, as the nominee. Only a sliver of the district is in the suburbs. Young Martwick lost prior races for state senator (1996) and county commissioner (2002).

Be very careful of what you are signing.
