Shortshanks Under Oath

  • Former Mayor Richard Daley has agreed to answer questions from attorneys suing the city over alleged systemic torture under disgraced former Chicago police Cmdr. Jon Burge, city attorneys said today.

“Mr. Daley will appear for his deposition,” Paul A. Michalik, an attorney representing the city, said after a brief hearing before U.S. District Judge Rebecca Pallmeyer.

Michalik said the “scope” of the questions Daley will face from attorneys representing Michael Tillman has yet to be determined.

Oh swami of the Crystal Ball, what do you foresee?

  • "I don't recall."
  • "I don't recall."
  • "I don't recall."
  • ::nervous inappropriate giggle::
  • repeat ad nauseam
Hey? Do you think they'd let us submit questions for the lawyers to ask Shortshanks under oath? Because we have an extensive list and we're sure our readers do, too. Now THAT would be an eye-opener.

I'd like to know how special you have to be to AGREE to answer questions under oath.

I'm sure that I could just pick and choose whether I felt like answering questions relative to several felony cases, or not.

why is jon burge constantly referred to as a " disgraced " former police commander--- I hope the wilson brothers felt " disgraced " when they got what they had coming to them after murdering two of our brother officers--- burge should be referred to as a saint because he did what needed to be done--- he is a saint and a hero in my eyes and his imprisonment is a great injustice....

Last week he farted and the third appellate ruled it was protected speech therefore inadmissible.

If that leaprecon burps; they'll make it a mistrial!

If he tells the whole truth the whole jury will have heart attacks and they won't be able to panel a new one!

I don't know what to think about this. As a citizen, I remember the Reader had a great article on Burge a few years ago and it revolved in part around Fahey and Obrien. (God bless them and theirs)
Burge at one point for sure was a great policeman but I personally think PTSD was something that accumulated with him after many years of dealing with shitty people in a shitty city. I think this is a policemans disease that maybe a number of you can be affected by. And I mean in dealing with particular human waste like the Wilson brothers and those who protected them afterward. Maybe he pushed some boundaries because of it. It would be fun to get on that jury and nullify it. I know for sure he was a better cop than Daley ever was a Mayor.

Dear Scc,
Hi, you don't know me, in fact most people say I don't exist or I am made of stone. I am Richard M Daleys heart. I am a tired heart, I have been put through entirely too much by the meat bag surrounding me. More than any human heart should have to endure. I have resigned to the fact that my time has come. I do plan on going out with a bang. Something this meat bag can ponder about on his trip to the underworld. I'm going to give him the "big one" during his deposition. Don't mourn my loss, this is the least I can do for all the trouble my owner has caused the city.
Signed.
Daley's Heart.

I would ask questions regarding R.J.'s cover-up, sure completely irrelevant, sure his attorney's will object; however, the questions must be answered truthfully during deposition.

I can only recall a police lieutenant that I worked for and liked very much in the 70s, was indicted for perjury by a federal grand jury when he answered, " I do not recall" during a grand jury hearing. He went to prison.

I take it you've never participated in a deposition, everything you say is a matter of record and can be used at trial to put whatever "spin" the attorneys want. Although that would be nice to say with a ..."suck my dick bitch" at the end it may not be the most strategic course of action.

He is going to have a tough time claiming he didn't at some time know of at least some of what was going on with Burge.

The whole world knew something smelled bad there.

Scary thing about our criminal justice and civil court system. We have to rely on 12 "fellow" peers. Some peers are: gang bangers, tree huggers, liberals, socialists, communists, occupy chicago, mckathy, racoon, moy, father phfligger, obama, race baiters, etc... Scared yet? After all those years, they convicted someone of torture. What do you think they can do to you? Right now, as you are employed by them. Be scared. Be very scared.

It is not a question of whether or not did what he is accused of, the question is would you be okay with him doing it on your watch or to your prisoner? The Wilson brothers murdered two policemen and spit in their mouths, they are animals FUCK THEM! I for one am okay with it.

Then he returns to la la land or China , or Coca Cola or where ever he is soaking us his hard earned money for his brilliant lawlerly advice. You guys all act like he has had

Do you want to know what Burge and his guys did? They did EXACTLY what they were asked to do by CPD bosses, the States Attorney's office and the citizens of this city-they locked up really bad guys and got convictions for the horrible crimes that they committed. Thn the Flint Taylors, Locke Bowmans and David Protesses of the world got involved and the former CPD higher ups, the States Attorney's office (Daley) and the very forgetful public left Burge and the boys holding the bag. I'm retired now, but I remember those days VIVIDLY. Area two was like the wild west and coppers were getting shot left and right. Every one of the motherfuckers that those area two guys locked up were guilty. Every fucking one. The Wilsons, Anthony Porter, Madison Hobley, Stanley Howard and Aaron Patterson, just to name a few were all as guilty as sin. Madison Hobley set a fire that killed 7 people (including his own little son) and the fact that he is out today is an insult to the people that he murdered.

John Burge is a hero.

John Burge a hero? Everyone of those that he and his crew beat the crap out of are guilty? Well, maybe so. I lived through those days also and I worked homicides during those times. I cannot disagree with you more on this one. The courts let some of these people go because the ONLY evidence against the person was a confession that was alleged to be taken under abuse. No where else in the city ( there were six detective areas back then) had these types of allegations made against them. Area two was number three in the number of homicides in the 70s and 80s. It was a question of leadership. Burge was under the command of a black commander and a black superintendent and at one time a black mayor. People either did not care or just closed their eyes. These actions have garnered world wide condemnation.
