CompStat Claims Another Victim

An unidentified lieutenant collapsed at this week's CompStat meeting and had to be rushed to the hospital.

No word on the lieutenant's condition, but we here at SCC think full consideration should be given to canceling the entire CompStat disaster, seeing as how it hasn't stopped (or even alleviated) crime but has affected the health of at least two officers, possibly three.

Oh, yes;
management by persecution is the method of choice.

All compstat is, is an excuse for a bully to vent his abusive nature on his subordinates.

Lt's, Sgts and officers, if your so stressed by compstat then leave your spot and go back to a district. He sits behind closed doors and laughs at us, fuck him and his band of merry men.
Oh yeah nice example gmac and Al, one stood there with his hands behind his back and the other tucked in his vest, all while facing the anarchists. But I'm sure those stinky rabble rousers wouldn't dare mess with you two.

Again OT - Just saw a "General Information" letter on the NATO summit handed out by the 1130 South Michigan Avenue building management to its residents. The letter gives information on number of protest events, dates, routes, etc., with detailed maps. Seems they know more than us front line officers do. Three interesting lines in the letter; "Keep your refrigerator stocked and medications filled (also have on hand all that you need to be comfortable for three to four days)" and "We are told by authorities that cell phone use may be purposely "jammed" up by Secret Service officials" and "You may be asked to provide "proof of residency" to gain access through road/pedestrian closures". Sure people, come on downtown! It will be business as usual! Thanks Rahm.

it has made one capt and now this lt fall out and I honestly believe that the stresses placed on kupczyk slowly killed him. get rid of the boxes, get rid of the comstat and get rid of the numbers game. let coppers go out and do what they do. instead of putting your gang guys babysitting people let them do things they are supposed to do...long term work and search warrants. let your tac teams do reversals, work robbery patterns, burglary patterns and search warrants.. instead, you want them out there getting heads heads heads. downtown loves the 10 reckless conduct arrests a day and one bagger of weed because its numbers to show at comstat.. but what is it really doing???? NOTHING. It does nothing to stop crime. and if your under the thinking that it takes them off the corners your wrong. You have five cars to a tact team. say they arrest 5-10 people in the entire district for the tour. do you really thing that 5 or ten people off the street for 5 hours really makes a difference??? Not at all... its a joke. but, when tac teams did reversals and buys back in the 80s and 90s it was great. You could easily pic off 10 or 15 people at a single spot... then you move to another spot in the district and get 10 or 15 more. then you do a buy bust or two and get a few dealers. now you have all these heads and guess what... a few are gonna flip on houses. Now your doing search warrants and getting much better stuff... and guess what, ITS ALL LEGIT WORK! your not breaking any laws, any rules you doing police work. you start hitting houses with search warrants every few days and start screwing with the dope and money and things will cool down... but hey, ive only got a blue shirt on what do I know. I guess us old dogs dont know sh*t

Clout-heavy or not, I hate to see any PO have to go to the ER.

Compstat. Tell you what, SCC. There's a better method to get the statistics you want than cooking the shit out of the books. You just don't send the police to calls for service. This is what's happening in 011. We have so many POs tied down on bullshit zones and foot posts that we are constantly in a backlog. Hours and hours pass before a car shows up for a job, if one even shows up at all. Gone are the days when white shirts cared about raps and backlogs. Now, if it doesn't happen in a zone WHO CARES? The words on the side of the squad say TO SERVE AND PROTECT, not TO EXECUTE THE LATEST SCHEME TO KEEP CRIME NUMBERS DOWN IN ORDER TO SHOW THAT MORE VALUABLE TAXPAYER DOLLARS DO NOT NEED TO BE SPENT ON ADDITIONAL POLICE OFFICER SALARIES. Maybe you could get that on the side of a wagon. Remember, any job that gets blown off is a WIN for Rahm. (fart noise)

Off topic and surprised it wasn’t mentioned by anyone either:

What a clusterfuck that vest program was that was offered on elearning yesterday. When it came time to sign up, there was no one at the academy to turn on access to enroll in the program and then when it was opened up, the cheapest quality servers (which we probably overpaid double or triple over retail) crashed. Now there is another date for the program and you can bet that the servers are gonna crash again. Thanks again Jonny for your expertise and invaluable knowledge of computers. I don’t know what we would do without you since AIRA and all the other awesome computer programs are always running soo smoothly. I’ve always driven a squad with a functioning computer in it and it must be due to your stellar leadership and top notch interpersonal communication skills. I’ve never heard of anyone wanting to leave your unit and it must because of you. I think you should throw a resume to Apple because you are wasting your time here in Chicago.

Many new and future retirees will not get cost of living increases.

On the other hand, Social Security gives cost of living raises. Cops don't get social security.

This is a strategy to drive down pension liabilities at the expense of the retired.

Now there is an effort to pass a constitutional amendment to require a 3/5 vote to give any enhancements such as these cost of living raises.

Can we get the same amendment requiring a supermajority for giveaways to the millionaires at the Merc and other corporations please.

LORI HEALEY'S ENTIRE BELIEF SYSTEM CRUMBLES -- NATO SUMMIT MAY LEAVE CHICAGO RESTAURANTS HUNGRY

By Kate MacArthur May 01, 2012

(Crain's) — Though the upcoming NATO summit will have a purported $128 million economic impact on Chicago, it looks like a sales bust for the city's biggest restaurants.

"City hotels are expected to pick up the bulk of revenue from the May 20 event, restaurateurs predict. For their own businesses, dining proprietors expect the event to be more for show than an actual moneymaker.

“I was hoping it would be more business rather than less,” says Glenn Keefer, who owns the River North steakhouse Keefer's and is a silent partner with Tavern on the Park. “We have no reservations Monday the 21st and very few from Saturday the 19th,” he said following a security briefing at the Illinois Restaurant Association this morning.

"He is concerned about talk that area companies will close down or allow workers to work remotely for safety. “Our business relies on people going to work,” he said.

"Tavern on the Park, which sits on the north end of Millennium Park, will be open for business as usual on Saturday and Monday, though the Prudential Building will be closed...The restaurant has installed Plexiglas over the windows..."

"With NATO in town, “it's security, security, security,” says Matt Moore, co-owner of Chicago Cut Steakhouse on the north side of the Chicago River. “I can only see a downside.”

OBAMA IS "HABITUAL BREATHER"

"...snippets from the diary of Genevieve Cook, who was a New York public school teacher at the time:

"A few weeks into January 1984 they were seeing each other regularly on Thursday nights ... and on weekends. He was living then as a boarder in a fourth-floor walkup at 622 West 114th Street. It was a rent-controlled three-bedroom apartment. She remembered how on Sundays Obama would lounge around, drinking coffee and solving the New York Times crossword puzzle, bare-chested, wearing a blue and white sarong. His bedroom was closest to the front door, offering a sense of privacy and coziness. Genevieve described it in her journal this way: “I open the door, that Barack keeps closed, to his room, and enter into a warm, private space pervaded by a mixture of smells that so strongly speak of his presence, his liveliness, his habits — running sweat, Brut spray deodorant, smoking, eating raisins, sleeping, breathing.”

In Chicago the only charge would be on an ANOV.

A 46-year-old New Lenox man charged Wednesday with making 911 calls threatening massacres at Frankfort and New Lenox high schools told police he did it because “he enjoyed watching the police response,” said Will County Sheriff’s Police spokesman Ken Kaupas.

On one occasion, Tom G. Rohrbach of the 700 block of Lisson Grove “timed us with a stop watch,” Kaupas said.

Rohrbach is scheduled to appear in court May 23 on two counts of terrorism/making a false threat and multiple counts of disorderly conduct in connection with the bogus emergency calls from March 6 through April 30.

OT- Thoughts after the 2012 Illinois Police Memorial. This years memorial had a different impact to me for some reasons I won't bother to share, most however I will. As I arrived at the fair grounds, which is the squad car staging area for the procession at just before 8, which is normally late, I immediately noticed one thing. I was probably only the 50th car there. When I first started going to this several years ago had you arrived late you probably would have been the 200th car there. As I sat in my car I thought to myself how many thousands of cities and police officers our state has that only so far 50 had shown up. The one day a year we get to honor our brothers and sisters in law enforcement that have given the ultimate sacrifice, 50 cities represented... I then began speaking with a Captain from an un-named department. As we spoke about the low turnout, he said well because of budget cuts not as many departments are sending squads. So we tell the mothers, fathers, wives, husbands, brothers, sisters, sons, daughters, girlfriends, and boyfriends that hey we are sorry you lost your loved one while working to protect the cities, counties, and state you live in, but we can't afford the tank of gas to come honor that sacrifice, thanks for your service but money is tight. But yet officers go to work everyday knowing it may be your last without a second thought or hesitation and when it does happen we say, sorry for your loss if you need anything call but because of budget reasons just don't ask for a tank of gas and 1 officer to show you we are truly a family and we do care that you the families have also paid the ultimate sacrifice. Then to hear Keith Dorwart speak at the memorial, voice at times, quivering and calm, about the trials of growing up without his dad, Keith is the son a Morgan County deputy that died in the line of duty. Speaking to a crowd of cops, families of cops, and survivors of cops killed, and saying he wants to be one of us. Having lived through the tragedy of losing not a cop, but a father, and knowing the risk of the job still wanting to be one of us! All the cops standing there I can assure you can say, there were times in our careers that only by someone watching out for us that our names are not on that wall. We go every day knowing that last year the number of cops killed was higher than in 20 years, but without hesitation we strap on the badge tell our families good bye and head out to protect people we dont know or have never met. To all the cops, never forget your brothers and sisters that have went before you, whether we know it or not their sacrifice may help to prevent your own. To the 2 people who stopped their busy day to get out of there car and salute as the squads passed I salute you. Not for respecting me or those that have passed, but for respecting the profession we all have chosen. And to all fallen officers and the families of the fallen, I will never forget your sacrifice, and I will always have a tank of gas and a day to remember! To all the current officers, working or going to go to work, keep your head down, and be careful! See you next May!

OT: At todays Comstat meeting, McCarthy wants to take on Facebook and shut them down after hearing that gangs are using it to coordinate their actions. He wants lawyers to look at what can be done to take down these pages. Keep dreaming, just like you want your own crime lab.
If these are the ideas you have for fighting crime, no wonder crime is so high. Stop wasting time with all these new ideas and let cops be the police and do their jobs.

I don't know anything about it but to everyone beating up on the Lt for falling out........did you ever consider he didn't crumble in fear but rather have a minor grabber while trying to restrain himself from strangling this shit out of McGoof? For now I'll give him the benefit of the doubt. He is a Lt and McGoof is the Sup so professionalism would dictate biting your tongue in a meeting. It's one thing to tell someone to kiss your ass one on one it's completely another to lose your cool and snap in the presence of numerous other department members. As colossal a hand job as McGoof is I still believe in the chain of command and the respect required.

Here it comes people!!!

Oh my...Rahm was right. We need to have gun titles and fees, more hoops and fees, and paperwork and fees, licensing, and fees, etc... for these damn guns

One amendment at a time being debased. Watch what happens to the so-called Illinois constitutional protection of the pensions right after NATO too.

Illinois FOID card system for buying guns and ammo is broken, state audit finds

A first-ever state audit of Illinois' FOID card system found bureaucratic loopholes and incomplete data that could allow the seriously mental ill and others to keep or get gun permits.

First they came for the communists, and I didn't speak out because I wasn't a communist. Then they came for the trade unionists, and I didn't speak out because I wasn't a trade unionist. Then they came for the Jews, and I didn't speak out because I wasn't a Jew.

Then they came for me and there was no one left to speak out for me.

"First they came…" is a famous statement attributed to pastor Martin Niemöller (1892–1984) about the inactivity of German intellectuals following the Nazi rise to power and the purging of their chosen targets, group after group.

This is just about right for the world we live in...Low manning, mortgage underwater, taxes rising, NATO few days away, gas at $5...and the Dept/city puts as much pressure as possible on police that already must deal with shitbird who is willing to kill as the weather heats up.

"compstat--doc-- all nonsense. just a dog and pony show -- always has been."

Don't forget the "Accountability Meetings" (modeled after Compost) in which no one was held accountable!

Chicago's too political. No one who's truly connected will ever get launched, no matter who the superintendent is.

Please tell me what's going on with the mass transit roll calls. The Captain showed up wearing cowboy boots and the Lt. was wearing suspenders. All I kept picturing was the Captain riding the Lt like a brama bull. Remember Captain you need to ride for 8 seconds to qualify for the finals.

Agreed. I always thought the same thing about Inspectors. (Do we still have those?)

Most of them were just dickheads with a pen. Big damn deal.

We've faced people with guns and knives. Why would some nitwit like this concern us?

If it was a seizure that the lt had, he will be screwed. The doctors are required to notify the state of illinois, who will than revoke his DL. To get his D.L. Back he must be seizure free for 1 year.

Having a D.L. is a job requirement for CPD.

I know from first hand experience. Although, he's a white shirt, so an exception will most likely be made.

I wish the LT a speedy recovery. Good luck.

Sounds? You read the written word. You did not hear the spoken word, unless there are voices in your head telling you to shoot from the hip without first thinking or knowing the subject matter.

Regardless, it is clear you have never worked for these two goofs, else you would know the original comment is accurate. The original comment provides an accurate description of their roll-call attire. Or are you one of these track-toting fools and trying to impeach the truth about your attire? If so, fuck you.

Have spoke at Compost in the past. I never took public speaking classes and really was not prepared to speaker in front of a couple of hundred of people looking directly and only at you. Can you say stage frieght. I was nervous and its not that I didnt know my shit and was not prepared. I heard Mcarthy talking but it was not making any sense to me and had to ask several times to repeat himself. The only time I had to stand up in front of a group of people and speak at a podium was 20 years ago at the academy and did not do well then. Thank God this was not a make or break moment from getting bounced from the job. Have had a good career on the job over the 20 years. I dont know if Mcarthy thinks this public display of embarrassment will make crime go down. But I think it pushes people to maybe lie and to act like rabid dogs. How about having these meetings behind closed doors. Mcarthy can still be the BMOC. It will work the same way but without media presence, politicians and reverends.

Pre-existing condition or not, there's no doubt that the stress of Compost brought on this seizure. For any of you who have never witnessed this circus, it's only purpose is to demean, humiliate and embarrass the people who are up in front of the room.

Go and sit in the back sometime and look at all of the faces around you. People are cringing. Once "dick" tracy and McGoof start in on someone, it's like watching a tag team attack a cripple. When they ask a question, the person up front can't get a word in edgewise. Either New York Public school doesn't teach manners or these 2 assholes skipped class that day!

yes, you can now only do it at headquarters. You can register any gun at headquarters now... they got rid of doing it at the city offices.

Some of u people on here are complete assholes. He didn't pass out like it is something lightly. And to the person who said that someone who passes out shouldn't be on this job is just plain dumb! For those of you that care, it is a little more serious than just stress and fainting. Just keep him in your prayers and that is all I ask. Have a little support for the good bosses!

I agree. Godspeed Lt. I don't know you but I wish your health to return to normal. I only have 22 years on and I have to say that I am ashamed at the backstabbing, nasty, I'm suffering so you should suffer attitude of todays Chicago Police. What is up with us? Is this the best we can do? To hate on other officers, make shit up, degrade this one, judge that one... for any stupid reason...because a cop doesn't work in the ghetto that you do? Because a cop passed out at compstat? Because a cop had a seizure at compstat? or whatever other stupid reason we make up to belittle other officers. Do we even know if this Lt was ill or has a brain disorder before you guys dump on him?

Its bad enough that we have to work under trying circumstances presently which makes many of us want to leave the job but all this backstabbing and hateful comments toward one another is becoming a MAJOR reason why I can't wait to retire when I get my 30 years. This department has turned into nothing but hate. There is no camaraderie here. Its sickening.

Anybody who talked shit about this Lt. is a useless hack. Was a great PO, great Sgt, and turning out to be a great Lt. Just remember that we can only play the hand that God has dealt us. Some things are out of our control. God bless the Lt. and I hope he can beat this. We are all praying for you. The rest of you sad fucks with nothing positive to say can go fuck yourself.
