Shots Fired at Police

  • Two Chicago police officers escaped injury this morning when a gunman opened fire on them in the Homan Square neighborhood on the city's West Side.

At about 1 a.m., the officers were patrolling the 3300 block of West Flournoy Street -- just a few blocks from the Harrison District police station -- when the shots were fired in their direction, police said, citing early reports.

The shots didn't strike the officers, who weren't able to return fire to the fleeing gunman. The shooting prompted a large police response, summoning flashlight-carrying officers who searched bushes as a law enforcement helicopter, armed with a search light, circled overhead.

Police were talking to at least three "people of interest," but it was unclear whether they were bystanders of suspects.

Including the two cops who got shot last year, that's at least three incidents in Harrison/Fillmore in recent memory.

The truth be known, Fillmore and Englewood are both 6 square mile VIOLENCE "boxes".

HUH??

Are we making up new words for arson now because of the images people conjure up when the word arson is used?

Authorities not calling the fires arson

"...Several of the fires were within a block or two of one another. A Fire Department spokesman said it appeared someone had set the fires and department's Office of Fire Investigation was called in.

A police spokesman said Bomb and Arson detectives were also investigating..."

"Flashlight carrying?" Is that a special unit or what? Reporters are getting worse at their craft everyday.

OT: And a little on topic:

How about the F'n vest program freezing up again this morning. Tried to go on there exactly at 10am and the whole program crashed. Tried again for about 10 minutes and the program was down. Then about a half hour to hour later i go on there and it;s back up but i missed the cutoff. This place sucks.

Oh look it's one of those minor inconveniences tonight on the Skyway. They told us about these things from the beginning so everyone just go about your daily business because otherwise the terrorist have won...

Looks like mass transit is getting 42 Minoxidils and zero Hair Gels. It really isn't fair. I have 7 years senority, but work at least 10 times harder than what bid in over there. I could made a difference, just ask my mom.

You mean like "fire," images like that?

No. No new words. They're not going to call it anything at all. That's how you make it go away.

Talk-show host Roe Conn is undoubtedly on the case; you'll recall that he's also the bioterrrorism investigator for Chicago now.

Yeah, you gotta take power test, get qualified, etc.

You'll have to toss the Vanecko batteries and pay for your own Energizers, though.

They spent $890,000 on special locking Flashlight Racks from Vanecko Welding And Fabricating, but they do not fit properly in the Tahoes, they fall off and the sharp edges injure the driver, the no-bid "minority" subcontractor who was making the keys has filed for bankruptcy and is not answering the phone number, etc.

Hopefully you'll figure out how to spell "seniority" sometime in your next 7 years on the job...KID. Pay your dues, bitch, and keep your mouth shut, and maybe someday soon you'll have enough time on to get off midnights. I doubt it, though, with very few new hires any time on the horizon. Now shut up and go write the boss some tickets.

I know someone that seems to have fires near him/her, regularly...

As far as kids, some of them need Minoxodil, also. You are lucky to have this job, bitch to someone that cares. You make more money than you could elsewhere, don't have to break your back at hard labor nor work yourself into an early grave, attempting to satisfy some ego maniacs idea of what good performance is. This job is seniority based, so get used to having shit because you don't have any time on the job. I have more than 10 years on the job and am no where near a furlo that happens around Christmas or during the actual summer months. I don't like it, but the guys getting them now had to wait for years to get them themselves. I'll get them eventually, as will you. Seniority is the name of the game. In 6 or 7 years, you'll have some snot nose ragging about how worthless you are.

You know what, most of the men on the watch when I got here wrote tickets all the time. They didn't bitch about having to do it, they just did it. There have always been lousy bosses and always will be. Just do an honest days work and go home knowing you did what was expected and can be proud that you did a good job. It's called a work ethic. It almost seems like having some degree makes one a professional whiner.
