More Time Due Canceled
Someone said the Department is now considering the weekend to run from Thursday evening all the way through Monday night in order to further restrict Time Due all summer.
If we're at full strength, how is this possible?
And how the hell are we supposed to attend any sort of family events when every other non-cop in the world is off Saturday and Sunday, but we can't get the day? Spare us the "you knew what you signed up for" bullshit. We aren't demanding or expecting every weekend off, but it would be nice to get one when we needed one. After all, that's our time off earned.

At least the school cars, the commander's staff , the caps office are all s/s day off.
This miserable city and department should give us a better schedule. Something more than 2 days off. The ten hour day would give us plenty of time off and we would see weekends. Dont give us a schedule where we have to ask for time off just to have a "life", then deny us time!
If this is the case, DON'T DO ANYTHING !!!!! Handle all your radio jobs. Give everyone a report, but don't write a mover, parker, ANOV, or a contact card. Arrest someone on signed complaints only. Goose eggs on the checkoff sheet all across the board. If we're not short, we should be able to get time due. So now the weekend is five days long?? Better schedule your parties on Tue or Wed only.
So in essence, what you're saying is, that the weekend is all but Tuesdays and Wednesdays? That's lame.

I have had two days cancelled in the last two weeks. I can't get off for Fathers day. 13 yrs. on you might think time due on a Sunday you should get it but ok manpower is the excuse. If that's true then how can anyone say we have enough police. I can use a p day but we only get four and those are spoken for family stuff I can't miss. The best is I got my free NATO Sox tickets made it for a far off date just to be safe and guess what can't take CU that day I was told take a p day if I want it off. Are you fist fucking me I'm taking a p day for free White Sox tickets. No so I'm going to send then to McCarthy maybe he can get the time. Just glad I have 8b furlough. At least they can't deny me that. I just pray its a safe summer for all of us. Be safe.
Silly, just do like rahm and do what you want. Contracts are for suckas. If they write you up, tell them it was for the (your) children.

Just pray that more PO's are not murdered and maimed due to lack of police and the city's failure to deal with the festering problem for years.
I am suffering from PTSD and anxiety. I need my time off to balance myself otherwise who knows what may occur out there.

Anytime I've taken time off for a big event the department has dicked me around for weeks even days. Then about a day or two before I find out if I have the day off. I didn't sign off for they stupid people of this job to dick me around cus the don't know how to project and let officer know in advance
I suspect medical time will go up. Fuck 'em. But there will always be the idiots who will retire after 29 years and a day who say, "I never took a single medical day." Idiots.
You're entitled to the benefit. As long as you don't abuse it.
If the city screws you like this, what do you think the effects will be?
More stress, depression, substance abuse, and God forbid, suicides.
Take the time if you have to, and give the moral high ground a break if you need it.
I hope the FOP is keeping track of these idiotic initiatives.
If we had enough police, time due wouldn't have to be restricted, and we wouldn't have to rearrange the whole fucking lunar calendar at the whim of McLiarLiarPantsOnFire.
Also, the city is saying that more officers on the street reduce crime. If they have to deny time off, that means we are undermanned.
You'd have to be Helen Keller not to notice what's going on.

That is an excellent idea. Just be careful if you include a nastygram, because those tickets might lead back to you. I'm not into baseball so never went and got mine, so I don't know what the procedure was.
Just make sure you protect yourself.
If they can't trace tickets back to you, please post that--I'll go get mine and I'll be sure to enclose a FLAMING nastygram.

HA-HA-HA-HA-HA. When I go to checkoff, I go in with zeros across the board. But you should see that on my watch we have several that will tvb/impound 5 to 8 people/cars per night and a bunch of other goofs will come with several arrests per night. When will some people learn? I guess we don't know. But the tipping point is near if they implement this policy.
Simple... USE THE MEDICAL! You have to fight fire with fire. They don't care about you, so why should you care about them?
Pretty soon, if Tiny Dancer has his way, the weekend will run from Sunday to Saturday and CU with be severely limited. But what does that matter, we have coppers selling out by signing up to work their days off to help Tiny Dancer and McTool with THEIR crime problem. We have the city right were we want them and coppers are screwing themselves by looking out for their own immediate self gratification and not the long term benefits. You will learn. It will be a expensive and painful lesson, but you will learn.

I love my 4-2. My weekends come up a week faster every rotation, my stress level is down because I only work 4 days straight, if I take an extra day off my week is even shorter. I work in the ghetto and can use the respite. Do you? Or do you work somewhere slow where it doesn't matter?

It's still WAY better than working six days, fool!
Get your rejected slip back (with rejection written on it), get a copy of the page in your "book" or whatever the hell the W/C calls it, and grieve it with the union. You'll still have to work, but you may get compensated in the future.

well. we were working the 6-3 and it was awesome. But of course, all the whiners on this job were crying about having to work that sixth day. Yes, you had to work the sixth day but you got 3 days off ever single week. You also got more weekends, you got thurs, fri sat, fri sat sun, sat sun mon sun mon tues. for the last one you take one day time and youve got a full weekend and mon tues. Thats an entire month of weekends off in a row... also, with the 6-3 schedule your weekends came around alot quicker. It was refreshing having three days off in a row.. but no, the fop asked and all the crusty do nothings cried that they would have to still work 6 days. Please, youve been working 6 days your entire career. Now they want you do to the same thing but give you another day off every week. we are our own worst enemy. Im glad that I was at the FOP meeting way back when they were talking about which system to go with. All the whiners at the meeting were yelling for 4-2 and I stood up and told them I have worked it before with another department. I told them it sucks. I told them midnight officers will suffer. I told them weekends will suck. but they didnt want to listen. I sure hope that big mouth from 011 and 021 who were at the meeting arent the ones crying because they are the ones who pushed for this piece of trash schedule. it worked great for us in 007. Work great for midnight officers. idiots.
Hey 209 am you are a moron if you think the 6 and 2 was better than this schedule. I know this sucks but its a wave we will ride it out. mcnumbnuts will be gone soon things will be back to normal. I know people need the over time but your a crazy fool if you give up your weekends to work in a shit district and get denied time due when you need it off.. I can't get a weekend off so I put in for a tues and weds and get denied..F/U mayor.. HIRE MORE COPS!!!!!!!!!!!! Or go back to 10hr days. That is all.

I've worked the 6 & 2 for 24 years and would NEVER go back! Sure I miss the 3 day weekend, but they were few and far between and does not outweigh the 4 & 2.
Just my opinion.....

FACT: Rahm is pushing for less coppers off during the summer (fruloughs). He has the bargaining tools and FOP are the fools. Bank it.
Let's go a step further, since NOTHING happens on Tuesday and Wednesday, let's put the entire department on Day Off Tue/Wed?

I wish the city would just cancel the comp time option already. What's the point when any boss can arbitrarily deny its use. Stupid idea.

Well a big problem is that a lot of PO's want to take off every Friday and saturday night in the summer. It's like an accountant wanting to take his vacation in march or April. It doesn't work like that.
Where I work there is this girl with about 5 years on who a long time ago decided she would use her 8.5 hours to rest up for her side gig at the schools. That is when she stays for the whole tour because for some reason the sgts often let her duck. Well this girl also happens to be best friends with the watch secretary so her friday and saturday sllips always go through and usually don't get burned, because she probably doesn't know how to get to 26 and cal, even though it's in her district. So like always, the workers bear the brunt.

Where is the FOP on this issue? Oh yeah that's right. THEY DON'T CARE!!! The FOP office workers have weekends off. The trustees are all in cushy spots and never get denied. They have no incentive to fight for us.
It does not affect them.
That's the problem with voting in all clout heavy officers. We need to be voting for working patrolmen who know all the issues involving the majority of officers.
It also does not affect anyone on these b.s. tact, gang, saturation, and area teams. It only affects the people on the watch. The only people that still put in a full 8.5 hours of work.

Not true. I work in a unit and I was denied time for my sons graduation! Everyone is affected. Look at the dicks, their time is being denied. They are being sent to details yet expected to solve violent crimes too. It's not just patrol dude.

well, well, well, her comes periods 6-9 and all these silly cops want to take off work with THEIR earned time on the books--- how come it was never a problem until now--- could it be that we are thousands of officers short due to attrition and the failure to hire any new officers--- could it be the 35 percent increase in homeycides and the bosses pushing the panic button--- sorry boss, I like to barbecue and have a few swills with my family and friends--- I like to go to graduation parties and weddings--- I also like to do something called the family vacation--- these are things usually done in the warmer months--- barbecues in the back yard in january are never really to fun....

Yes dude it is just patrol. That is all the supt. cares about at the compstat meetings. he wants to know how many beat coppers are carried day off on each day there is a shooting in the district. He never asks how many tact guys were given the day off.
