Less Beer Consumption?

Hey, we're holding up our end. What are the rest of you people doing?
  • Illinois residents are drinking less beer.

That’s according to the Beer Institute.

The industry group says annual consumption in Illinois fell by three six-packs per person from 2007 to 2011.

Across the state, people consumed about 56 six packs per person in 2007, and that fell to about 53 six packs in 2011, according to the group.

Bill Olson, executive director of the Associated Beer Distributors of Illinois, says he doesn’t think any one factor explains the dip in beer consumption in Illinois.

The state raised the tax on beer to 23.1 cents a gallon in 2009.

We heard a certain "pilgrim blamer" has been holding up his end, too, so we don't know where the shortfall is coming from.

My old painter used to drink 100 cans of beer a week. He died in 2010 so that explains part of it.

Don't worry, since the depression in 09, I take down at least 59 to 60 six packs. Love me some empty calories! Still run a mile and a half in under 10:30! I just jiggle a little more.

This is clearly a result of the white man forcing his way onto the rest of the beer drinking world. Damn pilgrams!

Has the population of Illinois diminished?

I know I moved out the day I retired!

That might account for the drop in beer consumption.

(No, not only my moving out!)

Good explanation and one that is too complex to figure out by the simpleton politicians.

Beer consumption ISN'T down, beer purchasing in ILLINOIS is DOWN.

Same with cigarettes and probably other merchandise.

Wake up Quinn and all the other brain trust of Illinois, lower the taxes and maybe you'll see things pick up faster.

Right now this state is still in a deep depression. We see more recovery going on in surrounding states.

Not a LEO, JAFO

Listen up, pilgrim. You better suck down some suds and get this economy going. Stop drinking those sissy cosmos and belly up to the bar for a brew.

It probably has dropped because it is too expensive to breathe. Taxation without representation from the left to the right, hell even water is taxed. All these taxes and yet less police and 450 hires is not going to cover the gap at all. The only places that keep the alcohol consumption is in the ghetto, if not go drive around, look at the liquor stores, must be nice to get everything for free and be useless by own choice

Have to laugh wait till he sees the taxes he's NOT going to get from Cigarettes.. he's going to crap in his pants.. it's going to look like NO ONE in IL smokes anymore.. took my first run this week-end.. takes me less than a hour .. I heard IN was going to raise their taxes after making an agreement with IL..which is better than the agreement they have for people who live in IL and work in IN.. doesn't matter I will make sure I get smokes and gas in IN just to screw Quinn out of the tax dollars..

Saw this on the new the other night and my first thought was......it's because drug use is obviously up.

Sorry, but in "my city" 5 years ago, the worst we had to put up with is an obnoxious drunk maybe once or twice a year.

Chicago is a different story. That is NOT alcohol these people are "partying" with anymore. Hostile, belligerent, violent behavior.
